So I've been using the megs twins since I started correcting paint but over this past weekend the dusting was absurd. I've never seen it get this way before. Sorry no pics. I'm thinking of switching to maybe the menz line or blackfire. I'm not sure it that would help dusting and still have the same cutting power and finishing abilities. I'm using the gg6 and PC. Lc 5.5 flats on th hg and lc 3in hydros on the PC. I am using a sprits of water to keep it moist and cleaning on the fly every 3-4 sections. Please chime in if you've either used both or made the switch. Thanks in advance.

You ever wonder if it was your technique causing the dust? I never had any Meguiars product dust on me other than M105. Which is why I only use M101 now. I find most new users over work many of the SMAT products, thinking loger working times will somehow give them a better finish.

With that said, if your not good with SMAT products, try the Menzerna line. They have plenty of oils for you to work with, youll just need a good IPA (or alternative) to remove them.

there are better compounds on the market if you are willing to spend the extra money.

In a 2x2 section I was doing two horizontal and two vertical passes. Then would wipe check and go over if need be. I've always done it that way and have never had the amount of dust I had over the weekend.

Which compound are you working with?

I have only had issues with M105 dusting when I either used too much product or over worked it. Once I figured that out it works fine. Recently I have been messing around with the mothers profeessional system and it works really well. Something to consider trying.

Coming from a longtime twins fan I can say how I now love, love the Wolfgang Uber Compound.
The cutting edge still goes to the 105 but not by far.
Since switching I think I had to use the 105 on a couple of scratches that the Uber didn't remove.

I still use and love the 205, always will:)
IMHO there's is NOTHING better on the market that will beat out the Uber Compound.

Cuts well and finishes like a fine polish, well close to it.
Little to no dusting.
Easy to buff off, very easy I must add.
Will not gum up on you, even if you over work it.
Pricey but worth every penny.
Works great by hand, DA and a rotary with any pad choice including wool.

Try the sample size, I'd bet you'd love it.

I have the Menzerna products PF2500 and SF4500. I like the Megs 105 and 205. All will have dust, however, if you spritz your pad with a QD (I use Blackfire Wet Diamond Polymer Spray) should help keep the dust down. I have the Blackfire too and same thing. Spritzing your pad really cuts down on the dust.

Menzerna, Megs, Blackfire are all great products I have all 3 and all 3 do the same thing....create some dust.

Is it possible you are putting too much compound on the pad? I clean my pads after each polishing too.

I hear that Optimum Polymer polishes do not create that much dust but I have not tried them yet. You might want to experiment with that too.

To be honest I been using CG V line products in which I have experienced with no powder results or dust. Apply, wipe, and look at the shine.

I'm applying 3 peas size dots after my initial priming of the pad which I use four pea size dots. I've never had 105 dust like this. Idk if it was the environment or what but I had to constantly wipe away dust to work.

I have a couple of possibly dumb questions. Did you shake the bottle really well? Is there a chance it could have froze and ruined?

No chance of freezing. it's been in my basement all winter and yes very well shook.

It seems like you are doing everything correct. Try the detail spray on the pad right after you put on the 3 pea size drops. Then instead of using another 3 drops just spray the pad with a DS and use the excess product. It may have product build up.

I can feel your pain because I know when I had that problem I decided to for go the 3 drops and spray with DS and try another panel. To my surprise I was able to get another section with it.

This is for the compounding step. I have had no issues with the polishing step.

Maybe you should try Menzerna PF series (any of them). I really like that and use the Meg as a spare.

Additionally, I have heard (not tried yet to confirm) the Optimum Polymer Technology Polishes do not dust or have very little dust.

Either way I feel your FRUSTRATION!!....LOL

:buffing:

Odd, there are so many variables that its only a guessing game at this point without actually being there to inspect whats going on.

Im not or never was a fan of M105, with newer better compounds like M101, you deal with less hassle. More cut, longer working time, finishes to a high gloss and nearly zero dust. Not too many compounds can make that claim.
