Throwing in the towel...

During these days of the internet troll and where everyone seems to disagree with everyone else, it renews my faith in humanity to come here and see all of the folks helping and encouraging each other.

Sometimes we need to be reminded to not sweat the small stuff. Health, family and friends are the things that matter. Though we love our cars and bestow tons of love on them, they are just things at the end of the day.

Now pardon me, my car needs to be tucked in for the night.

AGO is full of great people. I love this forum, period!

Bones. Put it away for at least a couple days. Leave it alone completely. It won't rust in those couple days. Find something else to occupy your mind for now. Just a couple weeks ago I was in same position. I had to put some things behind me. What I did was get on my motorcycle and just rode for the day. Didn't have a plan just rode. Ended up about 200 miles from my house. Watched the sunset on the beach and just thought about everything in my life. Sometimes we just need to get away from it all if even for 5-10 minutes.

Ya know, I love jumping in my car and going for somewhat long rides. I've probably never done over a hundred random miles, though. I think a nice trip is in order for me. A whole tank of gas, riding out in the country areas in Florida.

Even after all of the kindnesses shown by AGO forum members,
some things will take time for you to work them out...
Especially if they are, or will become: Life-change-events.

But, I must say: Some roller-coaster ride you're now on!! :wow:...

I understand what your getting at...
But don't pigeon-hole yourself.
Your current view of en-"lighten"-ment should (hopefully) evolve.

IMHO:
Having rosy-red eyes does not always equate to:
Stopping to smell the roses.

I've been enlightened all day. I may have to chill out...

I don't know where in Florida you are, but a drive through the keys is good therapy for me. Overseas Highway (US1).

We all need something to relax us to take our minds off things that stress us out. Just so happens mine is detailing my car. You cant let something you love become something that causes you stress.

You'll get through it an if you need someone to talk to just PM me an I'll get you my number.

Man I hope you are feeling better. I normally find detailing very relaxing. Just think about it. It is only you and your car. I put my phone down always. No one bothers you. You are making it into too much of a "job" it should be fun. Even though I run my own detailing business and it is my job; I really enjoy doing it. Try to make it relaxing for yourself.

I have to say this is for sure one of the greatest forums out there. Everyone is so nice and helpful. It is nice to see.

Here's a little update... lol.

Since I posted this whole deal, I've basically pushed my car out of my mind and I haven't been worrying about it. I think I'm slowly getting ready to give it a good detail and be in the right frame of mind while doing it.

Thanks again for all the kind words of advice. I actually find that pretty amazing. Internet forums are usually filled with rotten creeps, and I got not one negative response from anyone here. I greatly appreciate that.

I'm getting excited for the weekend. :buffing:

I just did 2 quick clean up for customers and probably did more than i should have but they were just so happy to see their cars so clean over a simple a carwash ( um you guys know how we car wash) i just cant help but feel good and know this is something i was meant to do. In fact i was so happy that they were happy i had to cruise around in my own ride. Today was a good day!

Awesome to hear! Sometimes all you need is a break from it, and you'd be surprised at how much you look forward to detailing something again- it's almost an addiction . I've had times myself where I was tired of fighting with horrible paint and finicky products (especially 3M swirl remover, it caked up like crazy sometimes for no reason), so I'd tell myself I was done detailing for a couple weeks. A few days later though, I'd find myself wanting to do more, so back to work I went! :buffing:

Sometimes I wonder what all my stuff is worth. I have a decent collection. Hell, I was so fed up with it all that last time, I left half of my arsenal at my parent's house. I almost left a note on it telling them to get rid of it. That or I thought about leaving it on the side of the road. Eh, regular people wouldn't know what to do with it all, lol.

Hope things have turned around man.

I can't say I never thought about the same stuff. My current job is taxing and a 30 minute back road commute everyday without a garage wreaks havoc on a black SUV. Heck, I even thought about trading it in for a beater so I wouldn't care as much.

The best thing for me is to think of my "Why?"

Why do you get up everyday?
Why are you motivated to give your best?
Why do you care what others think?

My Why is my baby daughter and wife. Without them, I have little motivation.

Also, not to get biblical, but having a great church and relationship with God keeps me grounded. They say if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.

Let Go and Let God my friend.

I often wish I had a beater that I didn't have to care about other than regular maintenance. Just on the way home today, my car got sprinkled with oil. Yes... oil. From the road? Other cars? Your guess is as good as mine. Looks like oil, smells like oil. I'm anxiously awaiting the day that I clean this car properly. I detailed my car maybe 3 to 4 weeks ago, at least 8 hours worth of work, Iron X, clay, glaze and seal, you get the idea. I use Menzerna Power Lock, put 2 layers on the paint after the glaze, and it's like there's nothing there on the paint anymore. I have a feeling maybe not letting the first layer of MPL cure for 3 hours has something to do with it, but I'm not sure. I'm applying it differently this time. Apply, let dry one hour, remove, let cure for no less than 3 hours, and then repeat the process once more. I use CG Maxi Suds II for my foam gun and 2 bucket wash, an ounce for about 4 gallons of water for the wash. Anything strange about the MPL wearing down so quickly? Bugs are STUCK on my front bumper, as if no wax or sealant is present. Anyway...

I appreciate your comment. However, about the God thing... long story, grew up in Christian schools, basic Christian family but they weren't super strict or church crazy. I think I have a personal battle and love/hate relationship with Christianity and God in general. I'm still trying to work on it... maybe not hard enough.

I had a meltdown after a really bad paint correction last summer. I delivered the half done 1999 jeep, came back home and destroyed my pc, rounded up almost all my chemicals, rotary, and supplies, and gave them to everybody at work.

Sometimes things just suck. I really wish I hadn't done that. It was not only out of character, but expensive, and immature. Did I say expensive?

Some of you guys sound like you need to ad a punching bag in your garages!

:)

I had a really down day like yours last weekend. I waited all year for Fords at Carlisle last weekend. It was the 20th anniversary of the SVT program. We have a 96 SVT Cobra.

I have chronic pain from 3 lower back surgeries and 1 failed neck surgery. I wanted to correct and detail my car all week for Carlisle. Well for some reason I was in agony all week with back pain and on top of that several nights of no sleep. The car was quick detailed from a local show so it was good enough. Saturday comes, absolutely beautiful day after 3 days of rain. I hadn't really slept in 48 hours and was really hurting. By 1pm I realized if I went I'd probably fall asleep at the wheel and hurt someone so I stayed home. Most of my local Mustang club went for all 3 days and had a great time. So I was really depressed about it.

I had found my calling in life years earlier. My wife and I built a Photography Studio business from the ground up. We had a great studio, good business, and got to work together every day. A nightmare for some, but we loved it. We had to give it up when I could no longer work because of my back. I'm still trying to find a reason to get out of bed. I was a drummer in a band, loved it and made some nice extra money. Great stress release. Had to give that up too.

I've tried several times to get together with our own Tuscarora_Dave who graciously offered to mentor me. But every time some medical issue stopped that. Someday I'll get there and learn how much is enough when it comes to paint correction.

So now I play 30 minutes a week in the church praise band 2 blocks from my house. That's been a blessing. No matter how bad I feel or down, I always feel better after playing or practicing. I even got to play with a guy who used to play with Carlos Santana!

So th3m Bonz, do you have an outlet that doesn't require perfection like detailing? Something you do just for fun? I see you list music as one of your likes. Do you play?

Perhaps you could pick up a Craigslist beater for your DD. I'm into Mustangs and one of the Mustang mags has a project now where they are building a sleeper car with great mechanicals but leaving the body as a door dented, scratched beater, so you don't care where you park it.

Or perhaps like my wife is always telling me you could find some balance in volunteering at a food kitchen, animal rescue, or teach basic car skills to youth.

Like everyone else already offered up, take some time off and it will get better. Don't sell or give away your detailing supplies, you will be sorry and only end up buying them again.

Take care, Spiney-Dave
