I've been using Griots Black Stain and Chemical Guys VRP Tire dressings and neither seem to dry on the tire anymore. I shake them good, usually clean the tire well, but neither seems to want to dry anymore!

Should I maybe cut down the VRP with water or should I toss these and get something new?! I don't like high gloss coatings for the tires, and these were decent if I went over them after 5-10min to cut down the shine, but they just wont dry now :/

Toss the CG, no experience with the Griot Black Stain. If it doesn't dry, toss it too.

The weird part is is USED to dry on my tires (same tires for past 2 yrs almost.) I don't know if its the tires just not letting it anymore or if its the products.

Any recommendations on a matte/satin tire shine that is cheaper in price?!

Thanks! :)

Duragloss 251..The small bottle will last forever and it's cheap. With any tire dressings, be sure you start with a clean tire. Three things you need to know before applying any tire dressing/coating..SCRUB,SCRUB AND SCRUB SOME MORE.

Tarminator is an effective tire cleaner or 303 Tire and Rubber has been strongly recommended too. Tuf Shine is another very good tire cleaner though you would only periodically need to clean tires that well but it may be worth a shot with what you’re describing.

Duragloss 253 is a well regarded dressing that I use with a flag-tipped brush though I need to find a smaller flagged-tip brush since my tires are lower profile.

Maybe humidity?

Another vote for DG 253

Underrated product that looks great when applied, and is very inexpensive.

I don't know, don't think so. I used both products for the past 3-4 yrs on my old tires and these for the past 2 yrs and it only this year its not drying :/

Hmm, only place I can see Duragloss up here is Amazon and its a rip off there :(

Any other suggestions please?!

Duragloss Tire & Rubber Mat Dressing (TMD) #253

$12.99 for 19 oz of DG 253 at Autogeek and it is in stock. Though I buy it by the gallon (DG 252) even though I’m a hobbyist.

Ah. Canada.

Megs Hyper Dressing is what I’d probably go with as, like DG 253, it can be utilized throughout at 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 for under the engine, wheel wells, trim, and tires.

Yeah, he's most likely slammed with duties/taxes on most products.

Canada. America's Hat. :D

While most of CG's range is garbage, VRP is probably their best product, I actually don't mind it.

Another vote for Duragloss 253 from me, this is probably the one of the best low sheen tire dressings available.

Also like Hyper Dressing as you can dial it up or down depending on taste.

Don't rule out Carpro Perl either, again, it can be diluted to preference.

Another favorite of mine, NV Onyx.

So any ideas why neither of these I have are drying now?!

Thanks for the suggestions all, keep them coming :)

My guess has already been alluded to....that the tires are not clean enough....perhaps a build up of previous dressings not allowing them to absorb into the tire. I have Griots Black and Satin and really like it. I make sure the tires are as clean as I can get them....and them spray it onto an applicator and put on the tire.

As an aside...another vote for Hybrid Solutions Graphene Tire Coating......it's not really a coating.....somewhere in the middle between a coating and a dressing. I get about a month out of it, and have not an issue with sling or (not) drying yet.

Hybrid Solutions Graphene Acrylic Tire Shine Spray Coating
Duragloss #253

Both excellent tire dressings. The TWHS GTSC is going to last longer. Both provide the perfect look and never slung off on the paint. I also use a flagged tip brush to apply.

The only reason I haven’t tried TWHSGTSC, besides the excessively long acronym, is that it doesn’t come in a gallon size. I am almost out of Duragloss 253 (really 252) though and will have to pit DG 253 against Megs HyperDressing and maybe TWHSGTSC before purchasing the replacement.

I know TWHSGTSC does not come in a gallon, but a little goes a long way. It is a solid product, even though somewhat mis-marketed as a coating. I think it's worth trying
