I've been machine polishing for a few months now. For the past 3 1/2 months I thought I was doing great! Until, I decided to start doing IPA wipe downs to determine my progress....and.......  !!! I might be stating the obvious, but for the n00bs out there, make sure you do an IPA wipe down to see how things are working for you. :dblthumb2:

Or just dont use filler products. I always try to track down information on products to make sure they do not feel, that way you now your not filling vs. actually removing.

Most polishes don't fill, most glazes fill. Most polishes do leave some polishing oils, so an IPA wipe down will give you the true finish.

What fills like crazy? any certain product to just avoid altogether?

No, but they do leave some oils, so do an IPA wipe down.

This is the reason that I do an IPA wipe down after paint correction. I want to be certain that the next step bonds to the paint and any oils left behind can cause problems.

Where do you guys get your IPA? local stores i assume. thanks.

Good to hear! When I polished my car with the PC, I QDd between steps..... This was before I even heard of IPA making its way into auto detail :P But I already have my 32oz 50/50 91% IPA bottle ready to go for use in a week or two! 18th bday and two paydays, boy my AG order is gunna be fat.

Isopropyl Alcohol. 16oz for like $2 at Walgreens.

Thanks for posting this. I have only polished a couple of times and did not know about IPA wipe downs! But I'm getting ready to polish again so this is perfect timing
:goodpost:

Also, although I don't have a ton of experience, I have read a lot and it seems strange that no polish product description page or instructional video that I have seen on AG has mentioned this???

I'm not criticizing because I think this site is great but just suggesting that, if this is common practice, it would be good to see this step mentioned and explained more on AG.

So you mix the 91% IPA with water 50/50 ratio? Will it remove wax as well? Is it considered more powerful than a dawn wash?
