Hey all, I am thinking to get a 3401 as my first machine tool. I am just about to jump in, and noticed that there may be an update on horizon in a few weeks.

So I am just questioning to get it now, or wait and see what improvements are incorporated in the new product?

Appreciate your feedback.

In for feedback. I am also looking for my first polisher.

i say go for it, it's been a proven workhorse and who knows at some point if it stops being produced, you'll have yourself a collector's item that's been tried and true... ;)

I would wait few weeks (or month) and get the updated unit, supposedly runs cooler and new shroud/head area is more comfortable to hold and cooler to the touch. New forced rotation unit should be out soon it was being showcased at sema with the new 15mm unit and that just came out this week.

I'm also interested in upgrading to this new Flex polisher once it's announced this spring. Any idea what it'll sell for price-wise? I am little surprised that the new Flex just released sells for MORE than the 3401?

Depends how badly you want it. If you can wait, get the updated one. You will not get better correction from it, just different ergonomics. Then again, the new unit might be priced pretty high.

XCE-Plastic shroud
3401-Aluminum shroud

No need to wait, 3401 is available to order.

I'd wait for the new version
As old version I'm sure will go down In Price
The. You'll have the choice of saving $$ or going with improved design

Can you kindly elaborate on that comment ?
I didn't get it.

I'll take a stab at it
Going by your quoted post of improved new model and his responce of shroud material..he's saying the current model is more durable..

I say still wait.. Cooler running machine, suppose to be more balanced
Feels better in the hand vs the current

I didn't get it.

I'm saying its the same machine with a new name and a plastic shroud. It runs slightly cooler and isn't smoother, its the same machine having read reports from those that have tried it. It will not correct more or do anything different to what a 3401 already does, thats because its still a 3401.

All this hype over something that was always there. If you happy with a 3401 you will be happy with the XCE, if you don't like a 3401 you won't like the XCE either.

The bigger question is are you more inclined to smoother long throw polishers or forced rotation and only care about pad rotation over everything else?

Finally, I requested delivery of a 3401. I should be in my hands tomorrow. Uber excited to say the least.

GREAT polisher. However, it does take more "energy" when polishing, BUT, the forced rotation is 100% worth it!
