to the mobile detailers.. how do you deal with the sun

We work in it, but not when compounding - if compounding is needed and there is no cover is available working in the shade is the only option. Mobile can be quite "dangerous" because there are so many variables with every environment that you service a vehicle at - when it comes to one stepping I work much smaller areas if the sun is beaming and usually only work the shaded side of the vehicle until the sun decides to move to the other side..... sounds irritating and complicated but you get used to it :dblthumb2: - or you can buy a tent, which we have yet to do but may do very soon.

We just deal with it an if theres shade to work with then work in the shade. That a nice tent cosmin, what size an where did you get it at if you dont mind me asking. But like B&B said do small sections it compounding an work on the side of the car the suns not an move the car if need be.

is an 10x20 , i think the brand is undercover , some hitech x frames or something like that , if i have a good breakfast i can put it up by myself about 5 minutes.

LOL!! Is it tall enough to get a full sized truck under? Thats always been my biggest concern. Here in LA there's a lot of oilfield workers an they all drive trucks, if not lifted trucks. An how well do the sand bag weights work in high winds?

on their website shows an wrangler under it. i work on a porsche suv and it fit , was a windy day and my helper job was to watch the tent wile i buff
) it worked , if is not heavy winds is good.

I use a 10x10 but I need a bigger one. Be careful in windy conditions. I was detailing 24 vehicles and a gust of wind picked up the canopy with 40lb weights at the legs and almost blew the whole darn thing into a bunch of brand new prototype Mazda's. That was scary. If it happens to you make sure you disconnect the canopy from the frame immediately. That was the only thing that kept the frame from hitting the cars. The track officials got a good laugh watching me scramble.

Polished a black Avalanche today in the sun and it turned out great, but was a bit of a pain cause black gets so hot. I basically moved with the sun and worked only the cool panels, then went back into the interior, then back to the side that was now out of the sun. The hood and the top are by for the hardest because there was no cloud cover today. So I lifted the hood up to get it out of the sun and let it cool off, then dropped it and polished half of it - then repeated. Worked great..... being mobile can be much more tedious if you are doing it right : set up, being careful in the elements, pack up, got to the next job. As long as you are careful and can maneuver around the elements you can produce a stunning turn around with no issues.

I prefer to work in nothing BUT the sunlight now. sucks when compound or polish sticks but apply less and your good. Use to micro paint porsches and bmw's outside w/ no canopy. always good fun to wet sand those out!

There is a company that just came out with a compound and polish that can be used in direct sunlight. I cant post it here, though.

I'm in South Florida where it's always sunny and hot.
When i started out i would sometimes do some work in the sun but those were only regular cleaning jobs.
If the client can not provide a garage or bring the car to me, i won't accept the job now.
Everyone seems to understand and they actually would not expect it to be any different.
But each person has to decide what works best for them.
