Today's Tragedy

Well said BobbyG!

Politicians who ''Never let a crisis go to waste'' sicken me.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of all.

Today we all became painfully aware that our county experienced another senseless tragedy. Evil paid a visit to a small quiet Connecticut town, an evil that no one could see coming. There were no warning signs, no flashing lights or whistles to warn. No one can predict the unpredictable and although this scenario has played out before we still fail to see or cast a blind eye to its root cause…

This isn’t about pro-gun or anti-gun and in fact this isn’t about guns at all. What we are witnessing is a global pandemic of lawlessness and moral decay. I use the term pandemic because this is like an epidemic of infectious disease that has spread through human populations and no one is immune.

Trying to rationalize or come to terms of something so irrational is nearly impossible. Being intelligent, we naturally look for rational explanations in order to make sense of this tragedy and there simply isn’t a rational explanation, the rational cannot comprehend the irrational.

We will continue to point fingers. You’ll hear gun control, waiting periods, mental health screening, or the all-out ban on firearms period… In the end, we will continue to ignore the root cause of this issue because it’s something much more systemic than an inanimate object such as a gun or a knife, its man’s culture, we are to blame.

There is no law, no security system, and no safeguard that can protect us from ourselves.

We are bombarded daily about the atrocities man commits against man. The senseless violence that plagues our culture is rampant and worsens by the day.

In Beijing Chine a knife-wielding man stabbed and injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China. The attack happened as students were arriving for classes. This is just the latest in a series of periodic rampage attacks at Chinese schools and kindergartens.

This isn’t about right and wrong, this is about hate. The question that begs to be asked is what causes so much inner hatred that could result in someone carrying out an where 20 children between the ages of 5 and 10 lay dead.

This was a true tragedy of epic proportions. My heart aches today and I pray for the souls of those children, adults, and their families..... My sincerest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims....

Some will ask why God allowed this to happen, it’s because he’s not allowed in schools anymore…God bless all of you....

Very well said Bobby :xyxthumbs:. I asked myself what can cause such a build up of hate or anger that would drive someone to do this. I also wonder how all these young children today kill themselves because of cyber bullying. I think about when I was growing in Brooklyn, NY and was faced with a bully situation or some thing of that nature. We duked it out in the school yard or street corner till we both had enough, but we both walked away alive and it was over after that. We got it out of our system. Heck one of my buds caught a beaten by 10 guys once and the cops, yes the cops, told us to get some bats and handle it ourselves. Another way we took out aggression was tackle football in the winter months, ABC Ave boys vs XYZ Ave boys. You took your hits, gave hits back and see ya next year.

My wife is a school teacher for 15 years and tells me all the time how kids don't know how to communicate face to face anymore, they don't know what to do when faced with adversity or bullying, they turn to the internet or facebook for answers and communication, they can't handle face to face confrontations.

Has the push towards "talking about our feelings" both in person and on the internet backfired in our face and created more problems? Has technology played a huge role in our kids lack of face to face communication and inability to handle face to face confrontations? Were we better off duking it out in the school yard and getting it out of your system, dealing with the confrontation one on one and learning from it? Has society created it's own monster?

Thoughts and prayer with the friends and families of all involved in this tragedy. I am sure those little Angels are in a safe place right now, along with the guardians that taught them. As a father, the spouse of a teacher, and an LEO this hits hard.

Have to end rant here, daughter just got up and want to give her a kiss and hug.

I think it's time for everyone to turn in their guns IMO

Don't forget to turn in all your knives, kitchen utenstils, bats, rocks, kitchen table legs, lamp poles, Flag Poles, 2*4's, razor knives, axes and start plucking those whiskers as razors are banned etc. There are a lot of things that can be used as weapons. I have not seen one gun in a police lineup. Guns do not kill, people kill. I have no idea what the problem with this nut case was but I would think someone around him should have known how unstable he was and should have committed him to an asylum. You cannot predict what some people will do under certain conditions. If you want to turn in your guns go right ahead. I am keeping mine in case one of these nut cases wants to cause harm to some one I can help. This is a devastating story and I feel for everyone involved.

Not only is there the tragedy of todays events, but it is what kids throughout the country are going through.

After "Columbine," we had numerous youngsters that came to many of us in the school and just bluntly asked, "Are we safe here?" That is one scary thing to see that kind of fear in a child's eyes, even when the event was 1000 miles away.

That is one thing that has really stuck in my memory after 21 years in the 'business'.

NYC has some of the most strict gun control laws in the nation, impossible to get a carry permit and almost impossible to get a premise permit, yet guns always seem to find their way into the wrong hands.

If this sick individual didn't have access to a gun he would have used an alternative weapon. We all love cars and trucks on this forum and they can be used as 2 ton bullets. Could an individual wishing to cause mass casualties take a vehicle into a schoolyard and commit a similar act?

The tradegy happend about 45 minutes away from me. I really feel that even if guns get banned, people will begin to use other things like bats and pipes as weapons. People should be allowed to carry a gun for protection, but not to kill when it is not needed.

BobbyG, that was an unbelieveable post, thank you!

Something tells me if this guy would've showed up with a table leg, things would've turned out different

Why is this so shocking?

For centuries America has been insulated against from these atrocities by 2 huge oceans and a lack of instant information, aka...the Internet.

If we look back and remember our World History classes we're quickly reminded of mans barbarism which today are coined Medieval Times. These killings have been going on since the dawn of man but they're no less shocking now as they were then.

Click on the link below to read just a description of these atrocities since only the 1930's.

Global Genocide

Some recent history

Khmer Rouge in approximately 5 years killed 2.4 million men, woman, and children and many of them with machetes and axes because bullets were too expensive and in short supply.

1991-1995: Wars of the former Yugoslavia - The wars of the former Yugoslavia were marked by massive war crimes and crimes against humanity. The conflict in Bosnia (1992-1995) brought some of the harshest fighting and worst massacres to Europe since World War II. In one small town, Srebrenica, as many as 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were murdered by Serbian forces.

1994: Genocide in Rwanda - From April until mid-July, at least 500,000 civilians, mostly from the Tutsi minority group, were killed in Rwandahttp://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007216. It was killing on a devastating scale, scope, and speed.

North Korea - Several millions in North Koreahttp://en.wikipedia.org/####/North_Korea have died of starvation since the mid-1990s, with aid groups and human rights NGOs stating often that North Korea has systematically and deliberately prevented food aid from reaching the areas most devastated by food shortages

And others

July 22, 2011: Confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik kills 77 in Norway in twin attacks: a bombing in downtown Oslo and a shooting massacre at a youth camp outside the capital. The self-styled anti-Muslim militant admitted both attacks.

Sept. 23, 2008: Matti Saari, 22, walks into a vocational college in Kauhajoki, Finland, and opens fire, killing 10 people and burning their bodies with firebombs before shooting himself fatally in the head.

Nov. 7, 2007: After revealing plans for his attack in YouTube postings, 18-year-old Pekka-Eric Auvinen fires kills eight people at his high school in Tuusula, Finland.

April 26, 2002: Robert Steinhaeuser, 19, who had been expelled from school in Erfurt, Germany, kills 13 teachers, two former classmates and policeman, before committing suicide.

April 28, 1996: Martin Bryant, 29, bursts into cafeteria in seaside resort of Port Arthur in Tasmania, Australia, shooting 20 people to death. Driving away, he kills 15 others.

March 13, 1996: Thomas Hamilton, 43, kills 16 kindergarten children and their teacher in elementary school in Dunblane, Scotland, and then kills himself.

History

Man's history speaks for itself but over the last 30 years or so these horrific scenes we've only read about are now unfolding in America.

Mans brutality throughout time is, well, pretty disgusting and disturbing yet government officials and our elected politicians continue to search for the reason why and it's staring them right in the face..

I didn't post this to shock anyone really, but sometimes we forget the past and at times have good reason.....

Why do you think this ?. I am sure there would still have been deaths. Maybe not as many but any innocent life taken is to many. There also could have been just as many victims as I do not know the time line that all of this happened in and when the nut case commited suicide before officials arrived. I do know that home invasions are at least two people. One defenseless home owner against more than one does not have the odds in their favor. If I am going to die from one of the many nuts out there I do not want to go down defenseless like a sitting duck. I had one of these insane people beating on a picture window trying to get in with the wife and a two year old daughter in the house at 9PM one time. I stood in the room with a 40 cal. Glock aimed at the window with 911 on the phone. It took at least 5 mins. for police to arrive then subdue this crack head. If he would have made it into the house there is no telling what he would have done. I know I would have emptied a magazine of hollow points in him when one leg would came thru that window. I think I will personally keep and protect what I have with the tools I have available.

I would turn in every one of my guns if it would stop this kind of thing from happening. I

would do it in a heart beat! But we all know motivated people with evil intentions will still get

their hands on guns.

Same old story from Gun people.
