Top 5 Worse Car "Uprgrades"

Hope the owner had the foresight to install LEDs to
backlight these "speed holes" for night ricing...errrr racing.

I never understood having a rear deck spoiler on a front wheel drive car, can someone please explain how exactly that creates any performance advantage?

I found this:
Most aftermarket and nearly all OEM rear spoilers/wings provide little or no downforce. They are appearance items and if anything just add drag.

Without a wind tunnel you have no way of knowing how much or how little downforce such an item is adding or any way of balancing the front and the rear.

That said, rear axle traction is absolutely critical on a FWD car. What happens to a FWD car in mid-corner if the rear axle looses traction?

You find yourself backwards into the armco staring back at the track in the direction from whence you came. Few people seem to understand that the rear wheels are critical to vehicle stability on a FWD - they don't merely keep the trunk from dragging on the ground.

in the late '90s or early 2000s there was a company that made intakes to look like intercoolers. so dumb.
I have to admit, never heard of this but the concept and execution is MEGA RICE

One more reason that's causing Uncle Ben
to turn over some more...

There is a dude in a G35 coupe driving around Schaumburg with an interfooler.. It's hilarious

When a car exceeds a certain MPH, it will lift off the ground and the spoiler will push it back down. The drivetrain has nothing to do with it.

And 99% of cars that have a spoiler, can't reach said MPH anyways...

Throwing out the 99% of cars thing for a moment, (which I agree with, BTW) wouldn't downward force on the rear cause the front to lift allowing more air to get under the car causing lift again on the rear, essentially canceling out the downward force applied?

Maybe I'm way over thinking it...

You're not.

The windshield/hood/front bumper provide down force for the front and middle.

Fancy cars, like the Ford GT, actually have plastic on the undercarriage for better aerodynamics too.

^ They're called spoilers because they spoil the look of the car.

Not if your vehicle has one of these
backazzward hood spoilers!!

Holy hell.....

The best part was the guy answering questions. Though I will say the guys in the Dodge SRT4 were being douches to begin with. I might have laughed in my car, but definitely would not try to embarrass the driver like they did.

What on Earth possessed S. Simon to screw this car up,
by putting leopard print on the headrests?!?!

for what it's worth...

i have a background in fwd performance. there is such a thing, i swear, and not just drags, but road course.

spoilers can make a huge difference on cars in both venues...i mean on cars that have over 600 whp and those with less than 200 at the wheels. a high percentage of what you've seen in the past 15 years is nonsense but if you see a honda with a seemingly crazy spoiler nowadays, don't automatically assume it's not extremely functional.
