Top Gear America on the History Channel

Dam, I should link this over to Rut. Rut is very much a car guy...he may not be an exotic person, but who is? I mean #### the UK version guys did not know #### about the cars till a few years in, now they have been around some of these cars so much, they know the ins and outs of them. Tanner is perfect for the show as he is not to over dramatic and knows his way around a car really well. Plus he is actually someone who can go do some of the scenes without a stuntman. All the UK version does is drive multiple cars around and talk about them. The closet they get to testing is the Stig on their track. Least on this show, the host are some people who will actually push the car out some.

Overall, I hated the show from the start, but each show has gotten progressivly better and in a year or so should be dam near close to the UK version. Like someone said your comparing a 10 year old show to a 2 month old show.

:iagree: I think last night's show has been the best one yet.

I worked at a GM parts plant that made thermal components for the Roadmaster. Interestingly, it was built on the same chassis as the Chevy Impala back then:

It was basically the same car... except the Impala's cabin couldn't hold as much water :p
 
Just an FYI, the scenes are all filmed out of sequence, even in the same episode. Meaning, one cut of what you see in episode 5 might have been filmed on the first day and what you saw on episode 1 might have been filmed last. They mix and match scenes. The day I was on set for the filming, they used in 3 seperate episodes. As such, I don't think it'll get better as the season goes on, but it'll get better season by season.

That's nothing new, most if not all scenes are filmed out of sequence...
 
I just watched the episode with Kid Rock and Rutledge reminded me of the Saturday Night Live episode where Chris Farley interviewed Paul McCartney and was like, "Do you remember Beatlemania? That was cool."

Kind of obvious he is a fan. I don't know. I'm still giving it a chance. I wouldn't get rid of Rutledge. Maybe they could trade out Samuel Hubinette and Tanner Foust off and on.
 
My favorite episode so far is the one with the Cobra chopper chasing the Viper, that would have been awesome to do.
 
I've never watched the Brittish version. I saw one show and was not impressed at all. Thought it was kinda dumb. The one I saw was the race with the chopper. I doubt I'll hunt it down to watch again.

Yeah, but when you get comments about seeing how the show gets better as the season goes on....well, that doesn't really work out like that. :xyxthumbs:
 
That show made me miss my old Roadmaster Wagon. I had the exact same car!

Purchased it with 203k miles, sold it with 230k. I loved it, my 3 year old loved it, my wife hated it. :laughing:

Mine too....but thats because I think it's cool that the airport they did it at is literally two roads away from me.
 
I would keep Tanner. I like him in Supercars Exposed. Her really does know cars. I think he needs time to get accustomed to this group and crew.

The program deserves on word......foolishness. Anything that has Rutleg Wood I will not watch. He needs to be taken off the Speed channel.
 
The problem I have with the show is they tried to copy the original instead of making it their own. Everything is copied - the jokes they make, they way they act around each other, the pranks they pull on each other, the comments they make about the cars, the list goes on. They should have never tried to be so much like the original. Did they really think they could live up to it?

Since Top Gear America had been out I dont get Top Gear on BBC anymore or on BBC on Demand it horrible, I cant stand watching the Top Gear America it sucks
 
Top Gear America is pretty bad, but I still end up watching it every Sunday hoping it will get better each time. Sometimes it shows signs of improvement...but those are overshadowed by how bad the hosts interact with each other. I hate how they tried to copy the "Stig", however they refer to him as their silent racing driver... I also hate watching when the celebrity or the Stig goes around their test track, most of these are silent The host don't really know what they are talking about. I think Tanner has potential, he at least has experience racing/drifting and is able to talk technical. The other two should be replaced. That being said, I understand all these episodes were filmed before the season started so hopefully they will be able to make the necessary changes to the show before the second season, if there is going to be. So far they have really dropped the ball, but the standard has been set really high because of the success of the true Top Gear. Which that success took a long time to obtain, if you look at the episodes from the late 80's they are even pretty bad.
 
TGA is ehhhh, just doesn't have the chemistry and characters that UK Top Gear has. However, when TG first started it pretty much sucked for a lil while, took awhile before they had the right characters and chemistry. Hopefully that will happen with the U.S. version, but I think they need a new cast. Also BBC Top Gear is made with a massive budget, vs U.S. which is waaaaaaay less and for commercial tv. Someone once said it best, when they were sliding the Z into the parking spot between boxes or whatever it was, in the uk they would have done that but with Bentleys on each side lol.
