Anyone try topping D301 with another wax? Thinking about topping it with Collinite 476.

Richard, I am no wax guy as you know, but I do use (and love) Colli, so I don't see why it wouldn't work?

I agree Richy. I use Duragloss mostly but curious if anyone else has gone outside the box as we usually do with products :D. I suppose I could round up another car and try it out :). Where's Mark, he seems to try stuff like this!

On the Bimmer I just did I topped it with MaxWax! On my Bimmer I did the same and it pops nicely!

I have topped D301 with Collinite 845 before. I don't know how well it held up. On my car Mike topped D301 with Megs Gold Class liquid and all seemed to be just fine. I only had it on a few weeks before removing it for something else though.

You got that right, bud. :dblthumb2:

However, there's one thing that I've done once and will never do again, and that's top different manufactures products. I just don't believe in that. ;)

I've only ever sprayed OCW over the top of D301, and that seemed to work fine. I suppose maybe DG AW or, if like Mark you're a purist and like sticking to one manufacturer's line of products for your LSPs, Ultimate Quik Wax (or the Detailer line equivalent) would be fine to use.

Not sure about liquid or paste waxes but my bet is they'd work fine too.

Charlie, I bet UQW (or equivalent) would make a perfect wipe down product. I may experiment with that, #26 liquid, and Ultimate Liquid.

How about Meg's #34 Final Inspection? I have good results with it.

Honestly I forgot about Final Inspection

FI isn't a "topping" product in that it does not enhance protection in any way... it's merely a body shop safe quick detail spray. :props:

So true, Charlie. Didn't mean for any Meg's products confusion. I only use #34 for QD purposes for 'certain vehicles'. Also, as a footnote, I hardly ever use a "topping" product on those same 'certain vehicles' (per owners instructions)

Thanks.

Bob

Why not get rid of the 301 and put a sealant down (IPA or other product). I'm not sure the 301 is a durable product like a sealant is suppose to be. I'm in the middle of a 300 and 301 process now and am getting rid of the 301 after use so I can have a sealant on the paint rather than 301 as my first layer.

if you dont like 301 im sure you can use 205 and have no problems. no sense of wasting 301 when you dont have too

I think you need something between 300 and sealant. 300 isn't really LSP ready. I use 205

I think he's saying he'll use 301, then do an IPA wipedown after to remove it's protection properties and leave bare paint for another sealant.

The reason I brought this up is because I plan to use the system as developed, D300 then D301. Given the rumors of D301 not being very protective I was thinking of adding something like Collinite 476 for added durability. When I've used this system to date it's always been D300 followed by M205 or PO85RD and not D301. Now I'm just curious to see how the system works all together :). Thanks for all input!
