toughest sealant?

No bonding issues, I do an IPA wipedown so the paint is clean of any oils and one with a paint cleaner after my IPA wipe down. I have not seen any product go much more than a 2-3 months. To me people are buying into what they are being told or what people are saying on the forums. Normal washing and sitting outside you are not going to see much more than 2-3 months.

Here is an exmaple but it is a wax. I have used Souveran on my vette which sits in a dark garage and after a few weeks I go to wash the dust and the beads are very weak.

The only stuff that I have seen actually last as claimed has been Zaino and I am far from someone that likes Zaino.

I will add that the Optimum coating is holding up to its claim on a test I am following but other than that nothing last that long.

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding durability.

Seems like frequent washing and sitting outside 24/7 kills anything in a short amount of time.

M21 lasted about 1.5 months on my work truck and the slickness and beading was not all that great.

I have noticed in some of your posts that you have used BF WD, does that go farther than three months for you?

Don't know what to tell you then because like I said it works well for me. It also has nothing to do with what people on forums say, I don't fall for it and I'm very hard to please. I am however very pleased with DP Poli Coat.

I'm not trying to argue with you, I am stating a fact on how well it works for me. Just because it isn't working as well for you doesn't mean I am wrong in my observations about the product.

If I think about it I will give it a wash tomorrow and take some pictures to show how well it is holding up. I think you will be surprised.

No it doesn't, it lasts just as long as the others mentioned. It is just the easiest of all of them to use. That is why I have been using it.

Not arguing with you either but it is what it is sort of speak. Just very hard to believe that one out of so many are having better luck. When you say that all you do is wash it and do not add anything at all after the wash. Are you using a qd while drying. You have to admit that the beading after a few months should not look like the first beading. If it does I am going to say something has helped the product along the way.

Just like when people top a sealant with a wax, it enhances the look or durability, how so when the wax can not touch the paint and do it's job. To me it is it just a self illusion, but that is another discussion.

I posted in the recent past that I'm not a fan of topping 2 completely different products, it just doesn't make sense to me. Anyhow, will you ever put two coats of the same product? I've always stuck to applying one good coat and that's it.

When I put a second coat of something on it is always the same product, Souveran over Souveran, Wolfgang sealant over Wolfgang sealant.

Not sure how you figure that I'm the only one having luck. I already stated that I have not used a QD or spray wax on the car. It's just my wifes work car and doesn't get much attention as far as cleaning goes so I don't bother with it much other then a wash.

Not sure how that got into this discussion but I could argue the reasons of how it would work. Maybe some other time though.

The problem is no one can agree on when the wax/sealant is dead. There is a drop in slickness and beading. If you like that new detailed look (tight beading, slickness especially if you do not use detailers like QID/FK) you will probably think waxes/sealants do not last as long as others.

I had posted a picture of some guy who was bragging his coat of favorite product was going strong after 6 months with a pic of the beading. Some agreed, others said that the larger irregular beads were signs of near the end.

Good discussion- UPGP holds up very well on my garaged car. With wash every other week it holds up for over 6 months. Is there noticeable deterioration. Absolutely.

I tested it (with UPPP use as well) without any booster waxes getting washed with Ultima wash every other week. The slickness certainly degrades faster then the beading. At 6 months it was still pretty good beading but certainly not what it was. After 9 months there was still some beading but not much.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to do a long UPGP test on vehicles that stay outside 24-7.
The fact that it degrades from day one as Dana put it is an absolute point of fact and logic for EVERY single product. Bunky brings up a good point as well about the definition of when it's dead/dying. The DP is pretty tough from what I've heard. Richard did some testing on it in another post allthough he tested toughness (not necesarily durability).
Mark, I think with a lot of these products you are better off placing 2 thin coats then 1 thick coat.

DG105 over DG601 lasts a couple months on my wheels. I boost with DG AW. DG 105 is very durable IME. Also inexpensive and easy to use.

Which Zaino product are you speaking of that lives up to it's terms? (Without advertising, of course).

I didn't notice anyone mention Poorboy's EX-P sealant? What is y'all's opinion of it?

It's important to remember that durability and protection can be two different things. Zaino may hang around for a long time, but in my experience it does not provide as much protection as many other sealants that may not last quite as long. Personally, I find that water is much more likely to etch when using Zaino than many other products.

I don't know what the toughest sealant is, but FK1000P is right up there. It provides better protection against spotting and survived that hellish winter we had, fending off salt and chemicals very well.

FK1000P one of the longest lasting sealants I have used.
