Towels, where to start?

I might try some Eurow towels since I believe these might be the brand that packages for Kirkland/Costco. I want to keep cost down, but not sacrifice too much in quality especially when it comes to the towels for the paint.

I really like the newer offing Crimson Red Edgeless. These can handle just about any task assigned to them.

The site listed the blend at 75/25, but the it's actually 70/30! :props:

I picked up some gold 330gsm for throw away towels, but found them to be far superior to Eurow/Kirkland for detailing.

I personally do not have issues with 80/20 towels. Used this blend for rinseless numerous times even.

I guess it depends on the construction. Some feels softer than others out of packaging. For rinseless though, never had any problems with marring. I guess when loaded, you'd really have to be reckless to cause damage.

Thanks a lot they seem great quality, so I wanted to be able to use these to remove wax, glaze and sealant.

If you are unsure, you could always use them for glass and interior duties, and pick up the 70/30 or any of its 75/25 siblings I mentioned. Valentine Day sale isn't far off.

I've used these on my soft Subaru paint and they performed like a champ. They really are exceptional towels. Don't let the low 300gsm count fool you. Love 'em.

The Kirklands starting to get up there in price. I remember the 36 bundle selling for $17.99 (lowest I paid was $14.99). Now they're mid-high $20's depending on location.

I like the 245gsm for glass as well. Price did jumped up a bit for them, too. lol

Holy cow!! I don't blame you for not paying Mid-high 20's for a 36 pack. I hope they don't get that high in kansas city!! I actually just was at costco tonight (spent 400 bucks....ouch) but the kirklands here are 15.99. I can't imagine paying more than 50 cents a piece for them. What a bummer.

You are right about the 245 gsm edgeless going up in price as well. At least on the TRC wholesale site they started offering free shipping!

That's my baseline, too! Always bust out the calculator - with $0.50 as marker - when looking for 'throw away' rags.

(spent 400 bucks....ouch)

It's like that.

"Gonna grab me some eggs. Maybe a stack of toilet papers and olive oil."

An hour later & $300+ loaded cart cruising through parking lot....

I just paid $0.61/ea for a Eurow 80/20 363gsm 36-pack, but decided to cancel my order and look for cheaper.

I keep it simple:

1) Costco Kirkland yellow microfibers - (All purpose)
a)Virgin towels for paint or gentle areas
b)less gentle situations after first wash (rugged interiors)
c)even less gentle situations after second wash(wheels)
d)condition of the towels after washing dictates its use, eventually being thrown away

2) Sam's club blue microfibers for glass - (any color will work, I think they sell 4)
a)most people will say a chuck or terry cloth is best for glass with less softness which is correct. But I find these to work fine and they are affordable.

3) Cobra Waffle Weave Guzzler towels, I bought the 3-pack. Excellent for drying. Works fine for rinseless washes. I don't use waterless washes so some my claim a plush towel is better for this.

4) I bought a 50-pack of very small generic microfibers from amazon. They work well for various "smaller" situations, but you really will only need the 3 listed above.

Honestly that's about it. I do carry a set of the Gold Plush microfibers mentioned above however, I don't really see any situation where a virgin Costco microfiber can't replicate.

I've found small plastic bits stuck to virgin Costco towels out of the package. Recommend inspecting them or washing them at least once before using on paint.

Oh...those... I hate them so much. Felt cheated. lol

If you want to talk about throw away towels, these are it. Tried them on glass, bleh. Grime rags; use once and toss. At least the Kirklands are worth washing and reusing.

I've actually been called "very small generic". Not cool. :/

But yeah, Those Target/Amazon/WalMart towels do like 2-3 interior wipedowns, then 3-4 wheel well scrubs, then they get tossed to my dogs to see how fast they can rip them in two.

(3.3 seconds for curious minded folk........)

Interesting.

I found these towels to be very soft, but, not very dense at all. They crinkle, grab and fold VERY easily when removing polish. Disappointed.

don't get caught up thinking you need a zillion towels for everything. buy a few dozen of the gold cobra jr's and get a few packs of the yellow kirkland bulk microfibers from costco for interior, wheels, door jams, engines, etc,. while you're at it, you can also pick up a microfiber detergent (i've had good luck with them) as well - there are plenty of great ones that are sold here at AG...

I happen to use waffle weave towels for cleaning glass.

Understandable. It can feel a bit on the thin side vs others. Personally I've found them pleasant to use, although it does require some degree of finesse being lighter gsm. Gone through all sorts of tasks, including drying (wet/dry two-towel method). These and the Rolled Edge are my favorite offerings of all AG house towels. Factor in sale and they're up there in bang for the buck. YMMV, of course.

an update:

I picked up the MICROFIBER ALL PURPOSE WHEEL WASHING KIT on a 25%-off sale along with a Speedmaster brush and Blackfire Total Trim Restoration Kit.

I'm keeping an eye out for further sales, but might buy a bulk pack of all purpose 350gsm+ MF towels elsewhere if the price vs. reviewed performance seems decent.

Other than size and the edging, is there any other differences between a waffle weave for drying on paint and one for glass or are they essentially the same thing?

Can anyone comment on where to buy microfiber towels wholesale?

Does AG sell them wholesale or just in bulk pricing?

The AG wholesale used to have a lot of requirements attached to it that I don't think you're going to be able to meet unless you have a business.

There are certainly dedicated MF sites that have large quantity or actual wholesale pricing, but somebody is going to have to PM those to you (and not me cuz my PM box is full and I don't have time to go through it...when are they going to increase our PM size?)
