TR6---Day # 3

The side panels are just starting to feel smoother.

Horizontal panels (Hood/Trunk) is still bone dry! It is sucking up #7 like crazy.

On my 3rd bottle #7 and still have 4 more days to go!

I noticed that it is becoming easier and easier to remove embedded dirt in paint. Dirt just melts away as the oils get absorbed into the paint...

Kind of neat to see that happening.

Good start. Your doing #7 for a week, or am I missing something?

Yes...7 rub downs over 7 days.

Reasoning is allowing fresh #7 to sit over night allowing the oils to soak in the paint. Then repeat the next day. Will do this 7 times over 7 days.

Trying to fatten up the paint as much as possible.

Believe it or not---the #7 is dry by the next day. Especially the hood and trunk.

Then put down some fresh #7 right over top of the # 7 from the day before. Keep at it until paint is no long taking in any more oils.

Plan to stop after 7 days and on the 8th day, buff off the # 7 and put down some Meguire's # 26 (yellow wax) and call it a day.

That's the plan as of now.

Dr. Tommy.

The layer master...........:xyxthumbs:

I kinda like your thinking on this, bro.

It'll be interesting to see if it keeps soaking it in for that long. I wouldn't think so but you never know, that paint was definitely left out to die for a long time.

Got all of this from a fella name Mike...

I know about him using #7 on old SS paint. I don't remember him doing it more than once. Definitely could have missed it since I kind of skimmed it since it wasn't information I needed at the time. Or is this a new twist on his #7 process??

Cool project and I look forward to the results! Would be even cooler if ya polished it after the 7...

:)

Agreed...

Any suggestions re polish?

I'm up to running a polisher on the paint instead of using Megs 26 yellow wax!

Very intresting project to follow.

Thanks for shareing your work Tommy!

Wow! Awesome awesome work! Very gratifying!

Question, is 7 really applied using terry towels?

I apply M7 by had with a MF applicator the first time and maybe second time. Then I apply it with a DA and an old white pad (just for M7 use) for the rest of applications. Helps move the cleaning part along quicker. M7 is best removed with terry towels. You need a towel with some bite because it's quite grabby on removal. Most MF towels will struggle to remove the M7

Tom, you may as well stick with the 'trade secret' and go with Megs polishes. I would suggest repeated polishing with just M205 and a white pad until you're happy and not start with something like a HD compound. Then jewel it with a black pad and your favorite ultra fine polish or maybe one of the jewelling waxes.
