Tuning advice...especially those with experience!

4. The EN has an adaptive suspension, so it really doesn't need any work there. Yeah I'm sure if it was being tracked alot some springs would help but if you look at the pics of my car it has a great stance! Also the sway bars and bushes are all tuned and keep in mind thr lead engineer for this car was at BMW for over 20 yrs in charge of the M cars, you don't just forget things because you've come to Hyundai, he's put his stamp on the Stinger and N cars already and it shows

When I took the car on the Dragon and surrounding roads last year it proved itself time and time again. The turn in was incredible, I could just turn harder and faster with each curve, car had me yelling it's greatness constantly!

I've got the trio of Powerflex bushes going in the EN to help with wheel hop, all 3 are the street versions because IMO the race ones are probably too aggressive for a daily driver because that's what my EN is...a DD

...

I realize I made my suspension comments without reflecting back on pictures of your car as well as not knowing about the extra factory go-fast bits. What a great era of cars we're in where they're coming so good out of the box. It used to be certain suspension work was just a given because factory ride heights were so high, sprung so softly, etc.

Factory "Stability Control" used to be so over-imposing that you would never want to go enjoy some twisties without disabling it first.

Now it's impressive how fun they can be just out of the box.

Though (**puts on old man hat**), it is kinda terrifying the cars that kids have access to starting out these days. My first car I went terrorizing around in as a kid was a MKII Jetta I had done up for autocross that had all of I think 135 wheel horsepower.

(Edit: That's not true on the first car front - I drove the wheels off my '85 Chevette automatic before I got the Jetta. 65 furious... no, mildly upset horsepower!).

Nowadays you see kids all the time tricking their parents into getting cars with 300hp out of the box.
All that stability control assist with no prior/proper education makes it easy for them to forget the fact that inertia is inescapable, and _,000 lbs is going to want to do what it wants to do...

What about driver mods? Any plans to attend an HPDE with an instructor or start autocrossing?

One thing I've learned over time is modern performance cars are phenomenally capable and they will do amazing things if you know how to extract it.

My BRZ is mechanically stock right now. When I first bought it I had plans to start upgrading the suspension. However, after 1.5 autocross seasons in it I'm starting to see it's brilliance the faster I get and the more I run it. I've learned it was my sloppy driving that lead me to think I needed suspension mods, when what I may really need is to upgrade the brakes. I really want to run it more and continue to learn what it really needs.

+1 for the benefits of self improvement. When I built my E36 M3 (Mainly for Auto X with some HPDEs thrown in), I went big on the suspension and safety front (Poly everything, quicker rack, front sway bar, Seats and belts, roll bar), but did no power adders beyond a Dinan throttle body and cold air intake I got for free off an M3 convertible that had gotten traded in at the dealership I was at. The car was phenomenal, and for what I was doing I wanted to make sure I wasn't just relying on the extra pony to make up for my bad habbits.

All that being said, for a non-tracked daily I support the route you're going Klasse as what you're doing you'll get a kick out of every day. :dblthumb2:

Cosmetic mods will be a given and I'm highly tempted to do an exhaust, just for a bit better noise out back. Something deep and rumbly, not tinny with cracks and pops.

One of the biggest trends that I hate right now is all the cars with the "Burble tunes" that intentionally add fuel under decel for all the cracks and bangs. This isn't anti-lag, it's all just "for show", yet ironically it just makes the cars sound broken...

My car has "burbles" from the factory and they don't run on and on like say VW guys have. I wouldn't mind more of them and it's offered but I need more details about them exactly...btw I'm 53 yrs old

The shop I work at is mostly BMW, with a handful of Mini and Audi thrown in; so those are what I'm mainly familiar with. I don't mind a little burble that you get on overrun from a less restrictive exhaust, but the tunes that have it go "BANG BANG BANG BANG" when you let off and coast in the parking lot are a bit much...

(I'm a very opinionated 40.   )

Yeah...I don't want that, reminds me of "Jiffy Pop", you might have to look that up

My old Abarth was fun because on the Dragon for instance I could get it to a single backfire at will, I actually freaked a guy out doing it, LOL. He didn't know it was my car in a group conversation and I said "oh that was my Abarth, I wad saying HI️"

The N75 package is due here on Sept 6th.

This Sunday my buddy Marsin is installing the Powerflex trio of bushings on my car, he did his already (has the same car as me) These are urethane bushings for the motor mount, trans mount and doggone on the bottom.

Recently he went to the Track with these 3 bushes installed, bone stock car w/ worn Michelin Sport 4S' and ran a 13.1 @106 mph, 2.2 60 ft time and 4.76 0-60 time according to the onboard timer. His car dyno'd 277whp/283wtq IIRC this past spring

***PREP for more POWAH***

So today I took my buddy Marsin up on his offer to install my Powerflex "trio" of bushings, I've had them since last October

Considering this car is FWD and makes an honest 275 whp/280-ish wtq, it does wheelhop quite badly I must say.

The first 3 pics are for the trans mount insert, accompanied by an anodized metal access plate that replaces the plastic OEM one. There's no insert here from the factory, this addresses that!

The next 2 pics are the motor mount, as you can clearly see there's no insert from the factory, so this addresses that as well.

The final 2 pics are the lower engine mount, "dogbone" if you will and this is the main one needed to keep the wheelhop at bay. Here you see the black rubber OEM pieces and I could bend them in my hand, no way your doing that with the replacements!

Finally the pic of the EN's built-in 0-60 mph screen and the top result is the 3rd pull. Launch control engaged, rpm launch set @3000 rpm, 2 of us in the car and it was 91 degrees out, plus it's currently not octane learned, so only was making 15 psi instead of the 18 psi when its octane learned.

I will say firming everything up makes it feel like a new car, yes you feel a "little" vibration but nothing horrible at all, infact I like it being a little less "refined". The shifts are much more positive and firm, VERY cool

It's going to be cooler at the end of the week, so I'll try the 0-60 mph times again, maybe get it octane learned before then too

Speaking of octane learning, the solution to THAT and better performance will be here this Wednesday, stay "tuned"

Very cool! I'm subscribed for updates!! Any noticeable harshness or vibration with the new bushings?

It is noticeable but not annoying if that makes sense, I actually like that it's a little "rough around the edges" now

Phase 1 of Stage 1 arrived from Canada today!

MSD perf coils, NGK colder plugs 5L of Motul 5w40 synthetic oil, Wix filter and N75 swag bag (Airheads candy included, not pictured)

Phase 2, the ECU Stage 1 ECU tune, will be here next Friday. Apparently they had to order one, maybe these tunes are very popular and they were out of stock, oh well, I've waited this long...right

One of my best friends and trusted mechanic is either going to install all of this at once with my N Performance intake and Shark Racing turbo inlet pipe or just the intake/TIP this Sunday...stay "tuned"

Love the updates!

How do they send the tune? On a thumb drive or something? The tunes I've dealt with in the past were downloaded by the installer from the vendor website and then go straight into the car via a laptop. No shipping or other logistics at all.

What's the difficulty to do the plugs/coils on your car? On my GTI, I could do both in about 15~20 minutes in my driveway. Everything was easily accessible and the coils simply unplugged from the wires. On our recently departed Toyota it was a totally different animal. You had to remove the rear wiper cowl and the exhaust manifold to get at the rear bank of plugs (V6 engine). Even thinking about plug replacements in my BRZ gives me nightmares...

The tune is on a spare ECU, so no downtime on my end, yes, a bit more expensive but then again I've got the stock ECU off to the side.

As far as the plugs and coils go, well, I'm not mechanically inclined PLUS I don't have the tools PLUS my buddy will be installing the intake and TIP as well, so it'll all be done together unless he breaks it down by doing the intake/TIP this weekend and the ECU swap and spark plugs and coils next weekend as my ECU comes in on the 15th (FRI).

I have zero confidence working on cars, sans for lashing valves on a s/b Chevy as I threw a couple pushrods through a rocker arm a time or two about 30 years ago, so I HAD to learn to fix my car to get home Based on that I'm sure I could do it but I feel more comfortable letting a pro do it, a trusted friend who's been working on my cars for 15 yrs

Klasse - Props for knowing when it's best to have someone else do the work. As a tech, I've seen plenty of cars where just because the person Could turn wrenches to do their own work, didn't mean they Should be turning those wrenches...

As much as I feel I'm a handy guy, I've told my wife when it comes to stuff for the house: If it can burn it down (electrical), flood it (plumbing), or blow it up (gas), I'm resigned I'm just going to have a pro handle it. I'll change some outlets and fix toilet internals, but there's a line where I call in reinforcements just to be safe.

I used to always detail his cars as a way of saying THANKS and so I'm doing something car related while he's working on my car. Since then he's gotten into detailing more but I'll be detailing his newest DD...a 2018 Chevy Sonic that just hit 2K on the clock (he acquired it due to a death in the family) Now that car might not sound all to special but it's more than the sum of its parts. He's already done a custom intake, BOV and lower engine mount. His future plans are a tune and larger FMIC, which takes it to about 190 whp. His toy is a 79' Rx-7 that's he's owned for a little over 10 yrs now and it's currently awaiting its it rebuilt, built up rotory engine WITH fuel injection️Talk about stay "tuned"

Totally agree. I'm pretty comfortable doing oil changes, wipers, air/cabin filters, swapping out wheels for events, and plugs/coils...depending on the car That's about it, thought I rarely do it myself anymore due to time and dealer coupons make the costs of doing it myself about equal to them doing it. I'm tempted to try brake pads/rotors only because there are NO performance shops within 30 miles of me and I'd really like to upgrade when the time comes.

Ditto on the house. I'll do basically the same things.

Anyway...back on topic! Can't wait to hear the impressions after all phases are complete.

Phase 2 of Stage 1 has arrived today...EARLY

So today I tried another 0-60 mph time. The temps were about 30 degrees cooler AND it was somewhat octane learned (17 psi vs 15 psi, pulled 18 psi yesterday but I added 2 gallons of fuel) AND I used the NGS BEFORE the launch. It spun just about after I left and hopped "a little" and made a BANG like something broke (but it didn't, LOL).

The result was 5.7 seconds, .2 better than before but about .2-.5 off from what's expected but then again I'm not running the OEM tires or size (OEM Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 245/35 vs. Pirelli P-Zero 235/40, Michelins are more sticky FOR SURE!)

Now this isn't a drag car, I mean it's FWD, LOL but once Stage 1+ is installed...FORGET ABOUT IT, LOL

It's going down TOMORROW

To get the EN prepped for the tune, an oil change/upgrade is called for. Yes I got Motul/Wix from N75 but that oil is 5w40, this is 0w40 as we're going into fall/winter, so I'll save the other stuff for next spring/summer. 0w40 was fine per N75 btw.

It's going down RIGHT NOW

My buddy is doing the surrounding parts first as the TIP & turbo cool down

I might do a seperate thread for the build as this questioning Stage 1 or 2, so I'll post a link to the new thread here for those interested and follow this

Btw Paul (Sizzle Chest) wait till you see my FuelFed C&C pics from today. Let me just say a "bucket list" car is off of my list, my morning started off great

OK, roger that, more great pics of some awesome cars!

And...btw...Sizzle Chest is Scott, not Paul! LOL, I know we confuse the hell outta everyone with all the crazy names we call each other!
