Up Close & Personal: Rupes LHR 75E Mini Random Orbital Polisher

Do you have a side by side of the rupes and the griot's garage ?? Just to give an idea of the size of the rupes

Todd Helme did a comparison of the Rupes Duetto and 75E compared to the Griot's 6" & 3" over at autopiaforums.. Both Rupes SMOKED the Griot's tools in terms of correction power. As a result, I ordered the Duetto & 75E.

Yes. I have both articles with pictures that won't disappear. :D

Rupes Mini 12 vs Griot's Garage Mini Polisher

The new Rupes Mini is very close to the same shape and size of the Griot's Garage Mini Polisher.

Here's my article for the Rupes Duetto compared to the Porter Cable 7424XP, which is comparable in size to the Griot's and Meguiar's dual action polishers.

Rupes Duetto vs Porter Cable 7424XP

The Rupes Duetto is very close to shape and size to the Porter Cable 7424XP. The main body is actually smaller in diameter making it easier to grasp and hold.

How's that?

:xyxthumbs:

Does the Rupes 75E have an advantage over the 7424 for the same size pad?

What I meant was a comparison between the 75E and the 7424 when both equipped with the 4" Rupes pad size used by the 75E.

Nope. I don't have such an article or review.

My guess is that the PC will do a better job of maintaining pad rotation all other factors being equal. (exact same backing plates, exact same pads, exact same chemicals).

Just a guess...

:)

Not a fair comparison.

To very different tools size wise.

Thanks Mike. I bought the LHS15ES and was considering the 75E to replace my 7424 for use with 4" pads. The Rupes 15 has been great with much less felt vibration.

At the risk of of going off topic, I have not performed the KB washer mod on the Rupes 15 and have not stopped the pad thus far on the 15 using with Rupes pads. I was concerned at first using the Rupes pads as the texture and hardness is much different than the pads I've used before. However, the Rupes pads have performed very well. The Rupes pads also seem easier to clean.

Thank you for the link know a need a duetto and un 75 -_-

Stupid Question.....what voltage do they run on?
Are they dual voltage by any chance?

Rupes makes 110 and 220 versions of almost all of their machines, as they are made in Germany.

I'm pretty sure the threads for the Rupes are metric while the threads on the brushes are American standard.

I'd have to check to make sure as I've never tried to use a brush on a Rupes polisher.

:)

Hi Mike. Could you check it? It's because i want to replace the griot 3 inch with the Rupes mini. If the brush fits the Rupes, i wont need to keep the griot. Thank you :dblthumb2:

So here is a question. Being a nubie, I find a mini polisher to be much easier to handle than my porter cable, which scares the heck out of me. I think I may have burned my paint but my last week detail showed no damage and the swirls are still there. Just used an Meg Ultimate Wax. So I was thinking that if time and cost doesn't matter would a rupes mini be able to do a whole car. I already bought the 15 but am afraid to use it since I have no experience. Also my brand new Lexus GS has thin paint I think and the last thing I need is to ruin the clear coat. Anyone have any thoughts?

I believe you'd be fine with the 15. Don't worry, start at slow speeds, practice the technique to maintain the pad flat, spinning.

Definitively place a mark at the back of your backing plate.

Use a finishing pad and a finishing polish, do some 4-6 passes until proper polish work. Work slowly, but not steady. Keep that polisher flat, mate. Pay attention on both hands holding it, keep your eyes at the action 101% of time. You'll be fine.

Work your way up, going a step or two when you feel comfortable.

If time and cost doesn't matter, it would be my pleasure to be by your side, both equipped with a Rupes mini, to do a whole car.

I really enjoy the precision and control of smaller pads, but can't use as often as I'd like, because of what you already mentioned: Time, and Money.

Always I can I may do 60-70% of a vehicle using 5" pads. The 4" pads are just an inch behind...

Having a 15, you may be able to work like '50/50' with a Rupes Mini (one for larger parts, other for small, pillars, bumpers, around handles, etc!), and this will be an advantage to you.

Please, contact me if you need further information, it'll be an honor to guide you through it.

Good luck,

Kind Regards.

I have a Lexus IS250 and I can tell you there is no reason to be afraid to try your Rupes 15. If anything I find my Rupes Mini correcting faster than my Rupes 15 so if you can handle the Mini then the 15 would be easier.

Try the 15 on a flat surface like Tato said. The top of the trunk or section of the hood would be a nice start to get a feel of the machine.

Show us your results when you're done!

Thx for the comments; i have signed up for the detailing class (in September) and may just wait to then. I still can't believe the dealership put the swirls in the car plus i have etched water spots. The car is awesome but I want this machine to be pristine. I will try the recommendations above and thanks for the advice.

What is the makeup of rupes polishes. Are the polishes dat or Smat based or a combination of both like Uber compound.
