Sorry to hear that Mark.

I've only gotten light marring on a few cars, though BF clay marred it as well. For the most part I love the prep towels as they save a ton of time and effort and the majority of the cars I've done haven't marred.

Always do a test spot first and go from there. My clay will continue to sit on the shelf 95% of the time. ;)

Maybe the prep towels work better? :dunno:
I think its the same material so I doubt it...more preference than anything.

I used a new CarPro block on an old Trans Am last weekend that I'm currently working on. It marred the heck out of the first few panels but then cleared up towards the end. I was wet sanding the whole car anyway so I didn't care if it marred.

Maybe it just needs a little more breaking in? I'd say give it another shot before you write it off, Mark. Go around the glass on a few cars first and see if that helps. You also want to make sure you're not using any pressure...just glide it over the paint. Those massive arms of yours could be the cause too! :D

I saw that the other day. I thought it looked like a good offering but the only thing is that I wish it came in "ultra fine" like Pinnacle instead of just "fine". I work on mainly foreign cars with super soft clear coat that will marr very easily and like to use the finest grade available.

You may have stumbled on the problem here........Mark Does have some big guns......

I only used the FINE grade.

I had problems with a few of the polymerized rubber products when I first used them.
I found once "broken in" I'm unable to find any marring I can attribute to these products.
I have a few different product versions of these and my favorite is the Speedy Prep towel.

I have tried the resin products and still found marring after what I felt was the "break in" period.

I also tried the Carpro block and it marred. However my car was covered with very heavy fallout. I also used XMT Speed Clay and that to marred the paint, but like I said, the fallout was thick. It was so thick that Pinnacle Ultra Poly clay was not agressive enough to remove it.

Nothing that some M205 couldnt fix and she is now ready to defend her title of best paint at Detail Fest!

Other than my intro, this is my first post on this forum. My experience mirrors the OP. I have been detailing cars at a high level since 1985. I thought I would finally try out a clay alternative and man was I disappointed. I followed all prep and break-in instructions, used tons of lube on a clean car that had just been washed. I was appalled at how much it marred the paint on the metallic black X5 I was working on. It did the same to a black LX570, a black F150, and pretty much anything else I've touched with it. I suppose if I'm planning on doing a full paint correction this is not a big deal, but if that's the plan I could also get the contaminants out with 2000 grit sandpaper, so what's the point? I'm going back to my tried and true Clay Magic blue. I have tried most every other clay out there over the years, and nothing comes close to it. I might give this new white Clay Magic product a try, but I think I'm just going to avoid any more clay alternatives for now.

The first car I tried it on I didn't have any marring. I was pretty gentle about the downforce though and focused more on the back and forth repeatedly to remove the contaminants
