Using the pc gives my teenage son a BADLY swollen hand...why?

tell him to try using both hands. Press down on the head while steering it from the middle to rear.

Lauren, did you ask him how hard he was gripping it? Ask him to show you how hard he's holding it. If his veins are popping out, somebody is gripping to hard lol.

I wasn’t going to say anything about that one Surfer hahahahaha but yea it's funny hahahahaha

So the Volvo, well I'm on the last steps to finish it. Finally got all the polishing done and tomorrow I'm going to do the glaze and hopefully the LSP (I think that is what you call it) too.

The thing with polishing is that I went through the steps but kept getting hung up on minor little things. But finally got it done, the polishing that is. The front bumper doesn’t look good though but the rest looks god.

My hands go numb after about 10 mins with the PC. I say switch to the Cyclo with the new Double precision pads and you will have NO VIBRATIONS to worry about. Plus the Cyclo has alot more power, one speed setting, and alot more corrective action. Just my 2 cents.

cyclo isn't a rotary, is it?

No, its the best DA money can buy. Of course this is my optinion only but I have alot of experience in buffing and have used just about every machine out there.

Hmmmm... I had no idea. Why is there such a difference between the two?

Well Basically, the Cyclo uses two 4 inch heads that counter balance eachother and when used with the new Edge system on them they are centered so well that there is virtually no vibrations. Here is a review of them on another forum. You can see the machine and the changeover.

Cyclo's Dual-Precision Pads - Optimum Forum

Autogeek sells the machines and the pads.

wow - thank you very much! i had no idea about all the options available! your time is appreciated!
lauren:) you rock, edge man!

You are very welcome, but your hands will thank me MUCH MORE!

The only issue I can see with the Cyclo is the size and weight, I can just picture doing the door's. I can see the Cyclo operating really good on the hood, roof and trunk areas but when it comes to the horizontal areas like the door areas this I would like to see...well at least that is what I imagine. I honestly have never used a Cyclo...um...nor seen any one operate one for that matter hahahaha but for anyone whose body can't take the vibration then yes sounds like the Cyclo is the way to go.

How about using a decent set of mechanics gloves from Sears say? My leaf vac is horrible for vibraton but if I use a set of gloves I can double the amount of time I use it before it becomes a pain. Heavier gloves can really reduce the amount of transmitted vibration.

Make sure he doesnt have a latex allergy. I guy at my work has it and his hands look like mickey mouse if he has them on for a period of time and he sweats in them. Latex allergies can be VERY dangerous.

Thanks much for your thoughtfulness.
I know about Latex allergies - my mom had one.
You rock!
LaurenIm the MAN :)

hmmmm ..maybe he just wasnt born a detailer...you cant win em all..lol im jk jk...hmm i donno my guess would be the vibration could be messing with something...

Hey Lauren,

I actually noticed some swelling on my right hand too. Not a big deal really, and it was my wife who picked it up. I didn't feel any paint but she told me to go to the Dr....actually she demanded I go to the Dr and the Dr said that the vibrations some times pinch nerves and depending on the vibration at certain joint spots, in my case the wrist, it can cause swelling and this is due to the blood flow. I'm scheduled to receive a "shock test" on the 18th...Dr said just in case there is anything odd with the nerves. Better be safe then sorry I always say. Oh Dr said that if you feel some tingling on any fingers, especially in the pinky that it’s the nerve that is tight and the nerves make there way back to your neck…so massages are required…I love massages anyways so good excuse to get some lol.

Hence another reason I NEED the Cyclo...funny thing is that I used the rotary and no swelling or any side effects...I think it is the vibration that caused the swelling or in your suns case (well we already knew that lol). The vibration may be causing pressure on the joints (example, wrist or even the elbow) and blood may not be circulating properly or perhaps a nerve was vibrated to much...I don't know but the Dr said it happens to many people that work in construction and use the jack hammer's. Well she's a dr for a reason. Funny thing is that I used the PC a few times here and there and I don't notise any swelling...mmmm..odd though...oh and I must have the Cyclo either way!

I don't have swelling but my hand's feel icthy after I use a MF to clean the foam pads. It's coz of the vibrations. But it goes away just within about 10-20 seconds....? Anyone get this before? TQ.
