UV Protection

This is what I think, but the scientist says no. It has to absorb UV light or it doesn't do anything. Don't know.

I don't wish to make an argument but try to think of a scientific explanation for your thoughts. If the UV is neither absorbed or reflected by the layer... well then it is going to hit the paint/clear. I think Mike is probably going more along the lines of "it won't do any harm", which is probably right. That said, if you rub tanning oil onto your skin...

My point was more that there is a subtle but crucial difference between a product which is UV stable when applied and one which protects from UV.

Yeah but I wrote,

is better than nothing...

3. Keeping the surface coated with "something" from a reputable company is better than nothing, so find a car wax, synthetic paint sealant or paint coating that you like and use it often. At least as often as needed according to the type of wear-n-tear the vehicle is subjected to.

And by this I mean that doing nothing at all certainly isn't going to help.

Doing "something" ties back to the #2 item I listed and that's keeping the surface clean and smooth and this is something Dr. David Ghodoussi also told me.

2. Keeping the surface smooth, that is not filled with swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation. A clean smooth surface will hold up over time better than a rough, scratched surface.

Plus doing something makes your car look good and for some of us we actually enjoy making things shiny.

Thanks for all the responses. Thank-you Mike for your good common sense approach! My plan to keep this spot repair for as long as possible is:
1. keep in garage as much as possible at home.
2. Park at work in AM with repaired side to the west and move repaired side to the east during lunch ( not much shade ).
3. keep repaired surface clean, smooth, and covered with OCW every time the car is washed. Apply paint sealant & top with a carnauba wax every 3 months.
I'll let you guys know how it holds up over time. Thanks again!
