That sucks! But you weren't happy there anyway, so maybe it's not all that bad.

Taking SeeJays to full time sounds like a good idea. At least you won't be working for a jerk of a boss.
 
Thanks guys! I wasn't happy and I was considering quitting anyway. This enables me to hopefully collect unemployment until SeaJay's gets going well enough for me to keep my bills in hand.

I'm nervous but excited at the same time. I now have no excuse! So, I'll be off hitting the streets to find some new business asap!

SeaJay - First I will say I am sorry to hear this. Secondly, many around here have seen your work and it speaks for itself. I live in the Northeast and often worry about winter time as well if my full time job didn't work out well. But I think you have the talent to overcome this challenge. Lastly I will say that even though this might seem like a bad thing it could be a blessing in disguise. Maybe you can look at some of your former employers competitors....that is what I did. Good Luck buddy!

Funny that you mentioned the competitors. I actually have a few connections at our competitors that I may or may not take advantage of down the road. If SeaJay's doesn't work out, which obviously there is a chance for that then I may have something to fall back on.

But that being said thank you for the kind words. I have no doubt that while the weather holds up I can make plenty of money doing my detailing. In the winter, going to be another story but that's when I pick up a beater of a truck and plow and do odd jobs to make ends meet.

Wow - just caught up with this thread and couldn't help but draw many similarities to my own situation...I had six years at what started out at a fantastic entrepreneurship. We were extremely well treated, everyone would bend over backwards for each other, and I would do anything to help the company succeed...then the big bank came in and bought us up a few years back.

The changes didn't happen overnight but the arrogance that some 'new' bank people carried with them into the job really poisoned the well and over time it became very much like you describe. I got to the point I was so poorly treated that I could barely bring myself to go into the office any more. The system of rewarding hard work was discarded in favor of backstabbing to get ahead. I became the scape goat for issues that were not my fault but my pleas for objectivity fell of deaf ears, no surprise they did away with me and my salary.

It has been just under three weeks since this happened and it is the definition of bittersweet for me...I am left without the salary that afforded me a comfortable living so I am concerned, yet at the same time unbelievably relieved to not have to deal with the stressful environment that actually began to take its toll on my health. I'm on unemployment now which will allow me to get by since luckily I made a decision to never live beyond my means but am looking at new opportunities at small companies, not big corporations, and also taking a serious look at some passions like detailing and making it full time.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to reach out and let you know you're not alone, I know a few other people who have had similar experiences and one thing they all have in common is that it always works out for the best.
 
Seajay, sorry man. You're a good dude and very helpful on here. Just gotta hit the ground running and hope for the best. Any new business will struggle at first, but if you maintain quality work everyday than you will be more than good to go. I hope the best for you and your family.
 
Today company's want team players. If you want to keep your job, you need to limit your compliants or head for the door. Bosses want suggestions not compliants. Boat rocker are the frist to go, no matter how good or right they are.

I am really sorry for you. But if you need to get a new job remember this.

I am retired, but worked for 60 years and have seen complianers have this happen to them over and over.

I have no doubt you will be fine man! Its times like these that tend to put things into perspective and allow us to do the things we want to do. Whether you realize it or not, you brought this situation into fruition and you yourself have the power to conquer anything that comes your way. I understand it’s a scary thing, but try not to focus on the negative too much, you have a new path opening up for you! Take it from me on this one…..at the beginning of this year, I broke off my engagement and set out to find myself and do the things I want to do…..part of that is auto detailing. I am looking into starting my own place in Jersey. Hey….come on down, we can partner together! LOL! No worries man, SeaJay’s detailing is about to get a reboot to 2.0 and if that is what makes you happy, focus on that! Or you can move to Florida and work at Autogeek, I am sure they would love to have you!

I actually did leave some in the mail room. And I had a classifieds ad on the internal server. I'm sure it will be gone soon. However my gf still works in the same dept that I did so she can put it back up.

Well my office job has gone completely down hill over the past year. I really use to think that I had a great job with a great company. I work in an inside sales team which I use to be the supervisor of for 2 years. Last year after a long string of incidents within the division and my mentor and boss was let go for stupid reasons. Long story I won't get into that now.

Anyway...after having 3 different managers in 4 months, a long with a lot of other things going on i.e. no support from upper management, no respect for me or the people that worked for me, and basically belittling everyone in my team. So after going to managment expressing my thoughts and opinions. They basically told me to screw and deal with it. So I attempted to deal with it for 3 months...after that time I was fed up with it and decided to step down from my supervisory position. This was Sept 2010. A few months back I get my annual review and they slap me with a does not meet and no raise. This is all due to 2 months that the new supervisor had supervised me and I had 1 incident where I got into with a sales rep. Nothing big just a little argument. Well, because of this 1 incident they give me no raise and say I have attitude problems etc. So I fought this 1st to the manager, and explained to him in our conversation that I was not happy here. Where he then suggested I go talk to a shrink. So then I went to HR. Who basically did nothing and told me to deal with it and this is a new year!

I am still in the team and things have only gotten worse, between the new supervisor, manager, and the sales reps I work with. The people here just seem to think they are high and mighty because a lot of them have their degrees in engineering, masters degree in business, etc.

Great example is this morning I have one of my sales reps contact me to look up a water system for him and give him some more info. Even though he could do it himself, he asks me because he doesn't want to have to spend the 5 minutes to do it. So I go looking up the info and there isn't any that I can give him. I explain this to him and he comes back to me telling me I'm wrong and we have to have something. Well I've been doing this job for 6 years and I think I know what I"m doing better than most people here. So, I explained to him why we have no records etc. He still isn't happy and goes to my manager. So, long story short I just got reemed out for absolutely no reason because we have no record of something...

It's getting harder and harder for me to come into this office every day and I'm really considering leaving this place and taking my detail business full time. But then I have to think about winter, and what I would do then. Plus can I make enough to pay my bills?! If my house sells then I might be able to because I won't have a huge mortgage over my head..

OK sorry I'm done venting now. I just get so fed up with this place some days that I just want to walk away from it all!

Jobs have been in short supply lately. I work 40+ hrs a week and run a detailing business. I think you may just need an adjustment in the way you think about your job. I'm an engineer by day, don't really care about what I do at this point. I go to work to put a roof over my head and pay the bills. I don't have to be happy there, I'm happy at what it allows me to do once I'm gone; feed my family, family trips, buy things for my kids. When I get up in the morning and look at my son, that gets me through the day. I know people should be happy about what they do, but when you are not, just look around at what your crappy job affords you to be able to to do. Hope that helps.
