OK I know that I should be able to calm down by now, but!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I was out having lunch with one of my girlfriends and she asks if I would ride with her to check out a Nissan Rogue. Sure I am free and should be interesting. So test drove the Rogue has NO power so decided to drive the Murano to see if that is what she would be interested in. She loved it so I said we would check around look at some other cars and of course was going to walk away. So when the sales manager said I will give you 6K for a truck that isnt worth a grand in parts you got my attention. I am haggling with the guy knowing my friend wasnt going to buy anything on impulse, I just wanted to see what was on the table. I get them down to a 2012 Murano SV, merlot color, 6 yr 70000 gold preferred warranty for 22K out the door at 0% financed with 500 down. I didn't think that was bad deal. I was getting up to walk out when to my surprise my friend said where is the paperwork and when can I pick up the truck. So once I picked my mouth up totally off of the floor, I specifically took a sheet of paper and put SOLD, DO NOT WASH/DETAIL/OR EVEN LOOK AT THIS ONE. I made sure to say if it is washed the deal is void so everyone including the guy going to pick it up from another dealership knew not to wash the truck.

I go today with the thought of doing a quick ONR wash and laying on a couple coats of Autoglym wax before my friend picked up the truck after work. I was planning on returning for Christmas to polish it and Opti Coat it. Well of COURSE they "detailed" it and was sitting out in the sun all swirled up, glass has some sort of haze on it from an obvious oily rag being used to wipe it down. I not so CALMLY walk into the sales manager office and was like what in the heck. He had the GALL to say "we didnt think that you were serious about not washing the truck and no "little lady" should worry about washing a new truck in the cold." OH MY. Needless to say that it took a few minutes for me to calm down, regroup, and remember that I am an educated lady because the hood in me was about to come out. Just happens that the salesman walked by at that point and I asked him what was the ONE thing I asked him not to do and he said wash the truck and then why is it sitting outside with dirty windows, swirls all in the paint, and NON dressed tires? For real dude? UUGGH.

I did take that opportunity to pull up my website to show my work and explain that I do take my business very seriously even in the cold. I stated that I was HIGHLY offended that just because of my gender you didnt take my request seriously and have NO plans to do business with them. I guess it was at that point they remembered that my friend had only signed the credit check papers and not the sales agreement. Needless to say all of a sudden it was what can we do. I just looked at them like they were crazy and walked out and left.

SO the quandry is my friend said they have called her at work to see what can they do to have her come sign the paperwork and pick up the truck. She really wants the truck and a couple of other dealerships said that they wouldn't match that offer, so what do I tell the dealership that I want that would make me happy when I really just want to tell them what part of my behind to kiss?

Thanks for letting me vent,
RO

What can they do? Knock another grand off of it.

Seems like that kind of savings would pay for a REALLY nice detail. ;)

First things first. Good for you for standing up for yourself.

Sadly though, I do not see anything they could do. It sounds like their offer is already pretty low. And If they offer you free service they will most likely wash it again..

I think you just have to let your friend decide what she wants to do. After all it is her money.

:iagree:Shoot...to be honest...I'd say have them knock it down to $19,500 just for the fact that you could sue them for their discrimination. Then look up ALL the possible accessories you could get with the car and have them throw those in.

Thanks I try to present myself professionally, but man it gets so frustrating sometimes.

I thought that the offer was already pretty low, but I also think that they would balk at the price I usually charge for my services. Typically I only work on higher end cars by referral only. No need though to worry about making their money back in service calls for sure.

I told her that it was her decision and she was more upset than I was about being disrespected and I thought that I was pretty mad all by myself. So I think I will just say pay her first month payment and call it even.

Thanks for the reply.

Just to note...

If there are swirls in the paint, removing them means removing some precious paint in order to remove the swirls.

The clear layer of paint on a factory car is already too thin, having to remove the swirls will mean it will now be even thinner.

All the UV protection for the basecoat is in the clear coat, so the more clear removed the less UV protection for the basecoat over the service life of the car.

While the above is normal for a car after some time goes by and it sees wear-n-tear, it's a shame to have to undo the damage they inflicted for no good reason and after you requested they not touch the car.

That said, if your girlfriend is set on getting this car with this deal, then get the car and help her to undo the damage the right way.

What a shame... with the dealership DISO madness ever stop...

:nomore:

Free tires for the duration of her ownership?

I agree with the idea of either the first payment and/or some of the dealer extra's like floor mats or cargo cover etc. that the dealer has lots of markup that you don't want to pay for but would be nice to have.

That is a pretty awesome price so its tuff to walk away from it even with swirls.

Nice opportunity to get a remote-start setup thrown in :-).

Ok here's an idea that may be more palatable for them, used when we just bought a gently used MBZ a few months ago and made the same request and no one paid any attention to that either. Have her tell them she will discusss compensation when coming in to sign, price out the value of every item you would use in correcting (ounces of product, towels, applicators etc) and have them refund a check for the product used. That way no shock of what a good detail costs and the you are not out the product used to correct. Now to be fair do not include the cost of the OC etc that would have been used later.

We got $75 dollars out of the dealer for compensation of product, pads, towels. and applicators I would not have had to use. I had it all documented at straight retail cost divided by what I would normally use. No questions they thought that was fair. Might work, you use the money to buy bogo or 12 days items at outstanding prices, car looks like it should you get more product to use and are only out your time. Just a thought.

Highly doubt you could use discrimination in any way towards them as the intent was not to discriminate, they were just being caveman like in attitudes.

Agree with the extras being thrown in...either for the car or first few services free. Don't let them get away with it.

I'm still pissed at their comment: "we didnt think that you were serious about not washing the truck and no "little lady" should worry about washing a new truck in the cold." Thats why I say have them knock it down to $19,500. Of course they won't go for that but I think if they raise enough stink she could atleast walk away with 20k. If they throw in key words like Better Business Bureau etc, they might get nervous.

Well went to pick up the truck after the owners called to apologize for our wishes not being followed. So they r picking up her first 2 payments, free oil changes for the life, and $300 for my detail to correct their damage. Also asked if I would come and "educate" their detail guys so they dont continue to screw up cars since even the salesmen wont let their cars be detailed. I have not decided if I will come back or not, but she is happy with the truck and that to me is all that matters now.

WWWWOOOWWWW lets make sure they pick up those first two payments too...instead of pushing it on the back end of the loan. They compensated her pretty good. Go get um....make them eat their words. Show them that "little lady's" can rock just as hard as men do! Make sure you get paid for your services and then walk out with your head held high. Tell that same guy..."now THATS how you detail" and chuck the deuces.

You Rock! Way to go! I'm not sure when I will be purchasing my next car but you are more than invited to defend my honor to the sales people.

This dealer is giving you the chance to turn them around. That's awesome.

Here's my advice:
Take pictures of the truck in it's current condition. A LOT.
Then fully correct the truck and seal it, and take pictures at the same angle. Print these or have them printed at a high quality so that there is no doubt about the turn around. Bring that with you to the service department, so that it hits home.

The owners put forth a real effort here, in my opinion. They want YOU to educate the detail department. I would meet with who is in charge, and see what it is they are using and how they are using it. Then, show them how to do it properly using your materials. Keep in mind you may have to come up with a "fast version" for them.

At the end of the day, I would put together a formal recommendation of training and product selection for their department, and send it directly to the owners.

What they do from there is up to them.

I was going to suggest waiting until another new one comes in off the "boat", and start all over. I'd say the deal you got was a heck of a lot better!

That's quite a compensation package! Nicely done.

As someone who spent a lot of time in the service industry, I learned that no matter what, sooner or later you end up with an unhappy customer for some reason. The best places are those that go above and beyond to try and make it right. I always appreciated it when an unhappy client allowed me to make them happy...and so I always try and allow a place to make it up to me (some do, some don't). But if they do, usually I become a good customer, because I know they want my business bad enough to work to keep it.

On top of the $300 you'll get for the correction detail, you have an awesome opportunity for some long-term contract or instructional work here. If you turn their detail department around, word will get around to other dealers, who might want you to do the same....and having also done training, I've learned the hardest part is developing the materials. Once you've done that, repeating the training for a new group is easy....

Excellent compensation for their screw-up and a chance for what might be some good long term work...looks like in the end it's turned into a positive.

Good for you!!! That is a hell of a deal. Dealership will never learn, I recently had the trouble with my dealership. I brought my car in for service for oil change. And told them countless times not to wash my car. It came back to me swirled up after spending 15 hours detailing it. When I got there it was cloudy, so it was hard to see the swirls. In the end I got free mud flaps out of it. Next time I'm hanging signs in the car that says "Do Not Wash".
