Want whiter OWL's?

I know that I have the same tires on my Chevy TrailBlazer and I have quite a bit of difficulty getting the white letters white, regardless of what APC I use. I have tried several. They are hard to get white. I'm assuming the OP has the same issue.
 
Just curious:
Is there a recommended paint cleaner...
for when the painted-OWLs get dirty? TIA.

I have always used an autozone special wesley's bleach white which makes them insanely bright white. If that didn't work this would be an awesome option.
 
Ever since the formulation of Bleche Wite was changed, it doesn't have the whitening power that it used to. I have gone through about six bottles of the stuff. It just doesn't do as good a job.
 
I've gotten away with Brillo pads for the life of tires before for repeated trips in mud without losing color on a few sets. Fast and easy.
 
A friend used this on his wifes car and it started to run after a few rain storms. FWIW
 
Sand Them, done.
Sanding will remove all the discoloration and make them like new
 
Cool, didn't think of sanding them. Although I don't think it would be any easier than painting them.

I haven't bought any in a while since I don't clean as a business. When did they change? I have a gallon I bought a couple years ago that still burns my eyes without proper ventilation.

Idk. I just wash them with regular car wash soap or APC and reapply when it wears off. It lasted 3 or 4 months.

And those paint pens ain't cheap to begin with, either!

FWIW:
I have similar OWLs on my 2008 p/u.



I've had very good fortune keeping them nice and white with just cleaning them, using products like: S100 and
other Tire&Wheel Cleaners, Barkeeper's Friend...even Comet/Ajax/etc.

I'm thinking about 2 years ago.

That 'old stuff' really had a horrible smell, but man did it work!

"They" really weakened it (IMO)...I've gone to/with "LA Awesome" from the 'Dollar Store.'
