Washing Microfiber towels - what temp ?

@Setec Astronomy. I'm sorry you caught feelings over the fact that not everyone believes in science as much as you do, but you really need to let it go, because I'm here to talk about car detailing. You can believe whatever you wanna believe and I couldn't care less.. Move on already.

What Temp? I will tell ya what temp, you want to know what temp? ''COLD WASH'' and then leave to dry on a stand. =)
 
I used to use hot water than air dry in the dryer. Then I asked Levi Gates at The Rag Company and this is what he stated:
"Here’s the things that you need to know.
1. Half a cup per load (large) of LIQUID detergent, (Woolite, Free& Clear, no fragrance, no dye) or a MF specific detergent. In a pinch Power Clean by OPT is awesome!
2. Half a cup of White distilled vinegar, this will also help break down waxes and oils and revive your towels.
3. Warm or Cold water. No HEAT, MF burns and melts at 140 degrees. Most Water Heaters are preset from the factory at 145 degrees.
4. Low Heat/No Heat Tumble Dry. Same reason as above. Also No Fabric Softener/ Dryer Sheets."

Maybe if Levi had a hot water line to his washer, he would see that hot water (140 degrees) will not burn and melt mf towels..I've boiled mf towels with no damage. For over a decade I have washed in hot water and yes I have some high end MF.

If you don't feel comfortable in washing in hot water, by all means don't. But saying that mf towels will burn and melt in 140 degree water is simply not true.

I wash my clothes in hot water, well my wife does..I shower under hot water, my dishwasher uses hot water, so I just want my mf clean and IMO hot water will do just that.

I'm really not sure if hot water above 140 will melt towels because I'm not gonna try it.

I like cold water and vinegar with a free and clear soap. Works great. I was always told that hot water sets in stains and cold water helps remove them. I may be totally wrong though.

My question is why is everybody's hot water heater set so hot. Where I live in upstate ny code says it shouldn't be set over 120 and that is plenty hot for all my needs.

FYI: Vinegar should only be added during the final rinse. I've heard that if it's added during the wash cycle it'll work to neutralize the detergents ability to clean properly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's what I heard...

You do realize that the nazis acknowledged in writing that cremating the victims was the slowest part of the "process" and gassing was quick however the gas chambers couldn't be used again for hours until the remains were gone. Yes they did operate round the clock and the bones were not fully cremated so they used bone crushers. They would have the trains waiting outside until the camps could process the victims. When they had too many people to process they would actually take the remains into the field and burn the bodies in the open field next to the gas chambers...you can see the pictures if you like. There was a resistance that risked their lives to sneak pictures out of Auschwitz to try to show the world what was happening there. However you probably wont believe the pictures are real anyhow. The Holocaust is probably one of the most well documented atrocities in history. I'm sorry to break it to you but it was real, it happened and there are/were more than enough survivors to tell about it.

There is more than enough political crap online to discuss this and other forums to debate history. this is an auto detailing forum and I come here to talk about detailing cars not get involved with this BS


To the OP i wash my microfibers in warm water and dry with medium heat but try to not over dry the towels... been doing it that way for years. As a disclaimer though I have an older cheap washing machine unlike the newer washers that have all that fancy steam and high temp features

yes absolutely this. its unbelievable. whoever said every victim was gassed is just ignorant about the whole reality of world war 2. victims were shot, starved, gassed, died from disease caused by the horrible conditions, worked to death, ect . it wasnt just jews, it was Slavic people, pols, Russian civilians, Russian prisoners of war, half jews, all kinds of supposedly "sub human" peoples. you have to understand nazi German doctrine like lebensraum, eugenics and all kinds of pseudo science from that time. it was a horrible thing that must never be forgotten. you see just how crazy and violent we can all be and still are.


also i love my microfiber towels lol
 
i've been washing my microfibers in warm water with a mf detergent with an extra rinse cycle (to help rid any residual detergent) and then into the dryer on the lowest heat setting (no dryer sheet) for many years. no need to complicate things, keep it simple....

It was a Turkish cloth.. The actual towel sold at auction in 1995 for $170,000 dollars.

I just did a load of towels.

Scent and dye-free laundry detergent, wash with hot water, double rinse with cool. Dryer on high until towels are about 75% dry, then hang to dry until finished. Sometimes I'll throw them back in the dryer on high for ~10 min to make them a bit more soft and fluffy.

Did any of your towels burn and melt in that hot water you used?
