When you use the 2nd bucket to rinse your wash media, you're releasing the majority of the dirt you picked up into a separate bucket. By doing this, the soapy water receives *far less* contamination. To each their own, but the 2 bucket method makes a lot of sense.
 
Whatever makes people happy is what they should use but what I am getting at is that it is not needed and doesn't "always" need to be used. There are plenty of people out there using one bucket without misery. It is all in the technique no matter how many buckets you use just like in polishing. It will probably take you more polishes or passes vs. how many polishes and passes it takes me to correct paint.

I definitely agree with you on that, but I still stand by my opinion on the other. :xyxthumbs:
 
Well fellas, I have nary a dirt particle in either bucket when I'm done :)

Maybe a granule or 5 but I have very little thanks to the amount of time you could say I waste practicing the CD method. With the CD method the rinse bucket probably isn't needed but its one more precaution that takes me just a second.

I don't know what you guys are all fussing about... When using the DH method, I don't even use a single bucket. I just pour Dawn detergent directly on the paint, work it in good, and swirl it around with one of my old t-shirts, rinse it off, and drive her down the road as fast as she'll go till she's dry :dblthumb2:

Basically spray the dirty mitt out after each section you wash.

Tad, that is awesome. Since I only use Dawn I will have to try the DH method tomorrow. Thanks for the tip because I was getting tired of just dragging out the one bucket as it is. Now for this useless foam gun people use.

No Problem, glad I could help. Oh ya I forgot to mention that every 5th or 6th wash w/ the DH method I will apply a few dabs of this (I was getting tired of dragging out that big 8oz tub of TW)...

I wash with just water and shop rag, the water is free and I bought the shop rag ten years ago and used it for oil changes for five.

Ya, Fissvwax or something like that! Easier then hauling around that big old heavy 8oz tub of Turttle Wax:xyxthumbs: However I don't think it works as well as good ol TW! Oh well that's the price I pay for not having to haul around that big old 8 oz tub...

Dana, I also never use 2 bucket method, my reason...i am to lazy to fill two buckets with wash solution and drag them around. I have not had any issues with single bucket. 3.5 gallons of water in the bucket.

To the OP, one thing is that some oils make the paint swell and does not come back to normal till a day or so later, this could be why after IPA you saw a good finish. Also a few IPA wipes are needed sometimes.

You could of also gotten something small in the sheet skin, small as a single grain of sand and messed up everything.
