Hey guys just wanted to get a idea of what to get. I'm stuck between the griots garage portable water softener or the CR system. Just wondering what system you guys would prefer and why. Thanks.

When I was mating on a 66 viking we used SpotZero. Did it help? Sure it probably did but Im sure there is better systems out there.

Wish I could help, but I haven't used one.
The only thing I have heard about them is that you go through a lot of cartridges(or maybe it was the price of the cartridges), which makes them cost prohibitive for many people.

If you do end up getting one, please let us know how you like it.
 
I just spent a considerable amount of time looking into DI water systems. I looked at building one myself with parts from various online and local retailers and ordering a pre-built system from a reputable dealer. Long story short, I just ordered a CR Spotless System and should have it next week. I also purchased a TDS meter before hand to determine my water level and calculate the cost per gallon to make the DI water to make sure it made sense to purchase. The upfront cost can be low compared to the on-going resin costs. If you search CR Spotless or water under the Detailing 101 section of this forum you will find some valuable information.
 
I have the Griots system and went through the same thing you did. Griots won for me because of the valve diverter built into the top. So you can connect all your hoses and bypass the DI tank until final rinse to save resin.

Biggest complaints: unit is really unstable. If you are on a driveway with an incline it falls over at the lightest tug. Already had to replace both valves so now bungie cord the thing to my garage rail so it doesn't fall.

Second complaint is the resin is a b**** to change. And if you have hard water like I do (around 480ppm) I go through resin quick because of it being a single tank to filter rather than dual like CR.

Overall, I'm lukewarm to mine. For the right price id probably part with it.
 
Thanks guys. I'm up and running on coating jobs now and look to use it with my waterless wash. Hook it up to my PW and blast off the car that's coated then use the waterless. That's way I don't have to worry about drying the car. Also looking to do the same when I'm done with my correction to remove all the dust before I coat. I don't have a reading but I know my water sucks. Thanks for the response.

Mine hits 19 after a month and a half. I use it for everything. Prerinse filling up buckets final rinse. I bought a 50lb bag of resin. So I'm gonna see how much this ends up costing per month. Because I was looking into having culligan set up a tank for me bit it's a little pricey
 
If you are looking for soft water that does not leave water spots the answer is very simkple and super cheap. Put cap fulls of Optimum No Rinse in your wash bucket and you are done!
 
That doesn't do anything for the hard water coming out of your hose when rinsing the vehicle during the washing process.
 
I think he thinks it because I'm going to use the waterless after I blast off the car first. I know there won't be much water on the car after I do the initial rinse but I just don't want to have to worry about it.

By theory I agree with you Lane. It shouldn't make a difference, but I swear it does somehow. I don't know if it leaves something on the paint surface that repels the water rinse or what. I have never had water spots on my cars after washing with Optimum No Rinse (ONR) and I live in the part of the country with the hardest water there is, Phoenix, AZ. It comes out of the tap at 600 parts per million! Try ONR in you wash.

DI water is the BEST thing I've ever done. It can get pricey depending on the hardness of your water. Well worth it to me.
