Man o man. Today I went outside to clean my wheels with my new Daytona brush. The face of the rims wasn't bad at all, but the barrels had never been cleaned in the ten years I had the car. I used OPC. I wanted to get the tires perfect too to use UTTP. Well, when I was done cleaning and rinsed my tires/wheels off, I got some water on the paint of my car. I wasn't that worried about it since I knew as soon as I was done I was going to pull it in the garage and ONR it. Didn't matter. In less than an hours time I ended up with water spots that are going to require polishing, even if it is something very, very fine.

Does this seem normal? I mean it was hot as hell out today but I never expected water spots to etch that quickly. Pretty disappointed.

Thoughts, if any?

Definitely possible, especially if you're water is hard enough.

I'm guessing some of the water that splashed on your paint had opc in it and it stained the paint in those spots.

Ah, I thought about that, but I've had OPC dry on paint before I think and it didn't happen then. I could be wrong, but I really don't think that's it.

Yes, I was surprised when I used to park my car near a sprinkler, that even an hour later when I wiped the car, the spots were etched and required polishing to remove. I honestly don't think it even needs an hour, I have some spots on my cars that I'm sure are from washing in the sun, I think pretty much as soon as they are fully dry they are etched.

AGREED!!! I was going to say the same thing, I think they pretty much etch as soon as they dry. Rain doesn't seem to this.

What a bummer. My car could use a good SF4500 polish, hopefully that's enough to take them out. I'll go m205 if not and hopefully that does it.

Never again. I used a lot of OPC and felt it really needed to be rinsed with lots of water and not just ONR.

You guys think I can use some 0000 steel wool safely on some really tough spots on the barrels? Rims are aluminum alloy I think. Stock 04 350z wheels.
