Wax - Seal - Wax//Wax - Wax - Seal

The optimum boards also talk about adding 1ounce of opti-seal to poli-seal to get a lot more durability out of it. If mixing is okay I would think topping would be okay also

Also.... OCW reads as potentially a 5 month wax? Now I know that would have to be under the most ideal conditions. Has individual testing proved against this? and how long does OCW last on an nongarage kept vehicle? I would like to know as I recently purchased some to use as part of an express detail package.

Could somebody recommend a wax as quick and easy to apply as OCW I could sub in for it with better durabilty?

Thanks in advance

Chris

It can also be used over a wax aswell as per Anthony Orosco. I have done it on several ocassions and works well

Yep. Listen to what Anthony says about Optimum. He knows that brand VERY WELL. I spent three days at his shop in San Antonio. He got me hooked on the Optimum brand products. :xyxthumbs:

Yet Anthony Orosco at Optimum will recommend to use OS over their OCW, which is certainly not particularly durable.

Anthony is NOT with Optimum. He deals directly WITH Optimum directly. He, and a partner, own a high end detailing shop in San Antonio, TX. They are very good people to deal with and learn from. :props:

Regarding the consequences of topping a wax with Opti-Seal, Dr. G (chemist and owner of Optimum) writes:

Opti-Seal is a highly concentrated formula containing sealant polymers dissolved in a solvent. Once it is applied to any surface, it will bond to it and cross-links fully within 12 hours. ...

If there is any wax on the surface, Opti-Seal will dissolve it and the polymers will go to the surface and the wax will migrate to the top. This is due to the difference in the surface tension of wax and sealant. I hope this helps answer your question.

Hence it does not appear to make sense to first apply 845 and to then top it with OS. On the other hand, OS will, apparently, be able to bond effectively to the paint surface despite any wax that has been previously applied.

I'm not sure akimel's conclusion follows from what Dr. G said. Dr G says that the OS will bond with the paint surface and the wax will "migrate" to the top. But it is confusing though, when he says that OS will "dissolve" any wax on the surface. Now I'm even more confused!

Without getting the semantic police after me, the general definition of "dissolved" includes the following: to cause to disperse; to break up; to become fluid. I too have always assumed the wax gets repositioned by the solvent in the OS, and does not disappear or get destroyed. So when the OS cures and dries, the wax is now on top. JM2cents.

or, it gets picked up by the applicator. I wonder if multiple applications of OS help more wax stay in place?

I am just a believer in Sealant then wax... Gotta remember LSP's are about protection first and most sealants offer longer lasting protection first... then after sealing feel free to throw that boutique wax on there every 3 -4 weeks or put that durable collinite wax on for the winter...

For me I am about to experiment with OS and Collinite 915.... keep an eye out for the pics... I am also going to compare this to OS and natty's red 50/50 on my DD's hood to compare

I can say the black test car I did 50/50 OPT Poliseal / poliseal+Pb black hole+Maxwax was definitely a noticeable difference just after application... and for 3 weeks following it became even more evident... again if I get time the pics will get posted
