It can also be used over a wax aswell as per Anthony Orosco. I have done it on several ocassions and works well
Yet Anthony Orosco at Optimum will recommend to use OS over their OCW, which is certainly not particularly durable.
Opti-Seal is a highly concentrated formula containing sealant polymers dissolved in a solvent. Once it is applied to any surface, it will bond to it and cross-links fully within 12 hours. ...
If there is any wax on the surface, Opti-Seal will dissolve it and the polymers will go to the surface and the wax will migrate to the top. This is due to the difference in the surface tension of wax and sealant. I hope this helps answer your question.
Regarding the consequences of topping a wax with Opti-Seal, Dr. G (chemist and owner of Optimum) writes:
]Hence it does not appear to make sense to first apply 845 and to then top it with OS. On the other hand, OS will, apparently, be able to bond effectively to the paint surface despite any wax that has been previously applied.Opti-Seal is a highly concentrated formula containing sealant polymers dissolved in a solvent. I'm not sure akimel's conclusion follows from what Dr. G said. Dr G says that the OS will bond with the paint surface and the wax will "migrate" to the top. But it is confusing though, when he says that OS will "dissolve" any wax on the surface. Now I'm even more confused!
or, it gets picked up by the applicator. I wonder if multiple applications of OS help more wax stay in place?Without getting the semantic police after me, the general definition of "dissolved" includes the following: to cause to disperse; to break up; to become fluid. I too have always assumed the wax gets repositioned by the solvent in the OS, and does not disappear or get destroyed. So when the OS cures and dries, the wax is now on top. JM2cents.
