I decided to polish a few small areas on my dads white Toyota Tacoma today.. I figured it'll be easy to do now that I have 3" pads to work with + it was long overdue.

So I taped up around the trim and instead of using M205 like I had used to polish the whole truck over a year ago, I went with Ultimate Compound w/3" LC Orange Flat Pad. 1 pass and the pillars looked great! So then I began messing around with other areas on the truck and I was shocked at how much whiter the paint was becoming. I always thought it could pop a little more, but this was incredible!
I went over all the nooks & cranies with the 3" pad, then put a 5" pad and ended up compounding the whole truck! Lol.

Check out the difference. [bottom right corner is after Ultimate Compound]

And I thought this trucks paint was at its peak.. Boy was I wrong😁

Here's a 50/50 after I was done with half of the roof. [back part is done and I was ready to start on the front of the roof] Hopefully it shows up in the pic.

I'm really happy with the results. It's gleaming white like never before now:)

Once again, proof you can get amazing results with an OTC product!
Did you use claybar prior to polishing?

Now get busy, you have a whole truck to do to make the rest match! :D

No I didn't claybar this time around because it didn't need it.. I had used the Nano Towel on the hood and roof about 3-4 weeks ago just before applying sealant on those 2 panels. The rest of the truck is smooth.

I got done with the front half of the truck including sealant as it was beginning to get dark. It's going to rain tomorrow morning and all day, but I don't care because it's all protected now. I can't wait to see the beading:)

I plan to do the same to the truckbed Monday and have the whole truck looking cleaner than ever😉

Nice. Ultimate Compound is my go-to for most light duty needs. Had to use the new Foam Cut Compound today but there too, OTC products have proven awesome.

Follow up your truck with some Ultimate Polish on a white or perhaps green pad and you'll really be pleased.

Wow. Really makes me want to polish my white Xterra now. I hadn't planned to just because I wasn't sure I would see a big difference but this just goes to show that it's possible. I'm amazed at how much "cleaner" it looks.

I followed it up with M205 on a Megs Thin Foam Polishing Pad on a section of the roof. It looked good, nothing dramatic. But the truth is I ran out of time.. I had hoped to get up early tomorrow and polish & seal, but the forcast says it's going to start raining between 3-5am.

So I had to scratch any plans of polishing and quickly finish up.

Gotcha. Missed that. I just love U.Polish so much and it makes such a nice clear finish when used with a white or green pad that I jump to it often.

Good luck with the weather. I put another coat of BLACKFIRE BlackICE Hybrid Montan Sealant Wax on my Audi tonight as we're supposed to get rain Sunday too.

Eh, Mike Phillips had a thread, I thought with a yellow (classic) pickup showing the brightening effect of removing embedded dirt, but I can't find the thread.

I thought that was it, but I remember a 50/50 shot where you could see the "gray" removed from the paint, which isn't there. I thought maybe Mike had a separate thread showing that but I couldn't find that either.

It is that thread.. Here's the picture you're talking about.

Btw, it didn't rain all night and according to my phone it's not supposed to start until 9am now.. So I was out here trying to compound the truckbed real quik, but it suddenly began raining as I was claying. Lol.

Yeah, I saw that, but the picture I remember is a test spot on the hood or the roof, and you can see how the test spot is much brighter than the dingy rest of the vehicle. Maybe it was another vehicle, I thought Mike had a thread...oh, I found, it:

And for an article that shows with some very telling pictures why you want to use a paint cleaner or some method of cleaning the paint before applying a wax, sealant or coating, check out this newest article on this topic...

Here's why you need to polish paint...

:)

It's from the last page of this thread: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...cleaner-cleansing-lotion-pre-wax-cleaner.html

Which links back to this thread: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...s/68100-here-s-why-you-need-polish-paint.html so it was not a pickup, but at least I remembered it was yellow!

Thank you Guz. I thought OTC may have been an abbreviation for a brand. Ultimate Compound is the Megs product?

UC is a fantastic product and they have been using it for years at the saturday classes at megs hq. 90% of the time with the megs da and polishing pads they are able to tackle whatever comes there way...
