What are these Marks

It's not bird splatter or chemical marks as the marks can be seen on all parts of the truck. The marks aren't just stationary and easily visible. Like I said they act exactly like holograms and move. I do live in the desert so maybe dust is attracting to my towels or polishing pads and causing these marks.

I thought the same thing. Reminds me of the chemical burn caused by dripping rubber roof cleaner down the sides of an RV.

My picture is deceiving I can see now. The marks are not white stained streaks like they appear in the photo, they look nothing like stains in person. If I had a video camera you would be able to see exactly the hologram effect I am describing.

How can holograms remain if spiderweb scratches and even some deeper ones were removed and the paint looks excellent and pretty much defect free? The holograms look like almost polish residue but obviously there not because they won't go away with an ipa wipedown. I already spent a ton on menzerna polishes and LC pads, along with the porter cable. I don't have the cash right to purchase any compounds.

I have no clue! You got me on this one man. Holograms definitely would be gone if scratches came out. You may be dealing with something that's in the paint. You probably just couldn't see it before. It was probably hidden by the clear till you cleaned it up. Tough to diagnose without seeing in person.

Maybe whip it by a local detail shop...they'll probably clean it up real quick for free. Something small like that comes through my shop...I would do it for free real quick to get you as a customer! Just an option I guess.

I washed my truck again today and will do one final pass with menzerna nano polish and a white pad and see what happens.

Good luck. Hopefully that gets rid of it. I've got a TON of compound laying around my shop. I have no problem sending some your way if you need it. It just sounds to me like you may need some. Only because you've done all this polishing and it hasn't removed it. If compound doesn't work...you may have a bigger problem on your hands.

I wish I could see it in person. This type of stuff drives me nuts! haha

If only you knew how much it is driving me nuts. I have spent soo many hours this week in my garage polishing the crap out of my truck and detailing every little nook and cranny. I was amazed how good it looked and it wasn't until I took it outside in the sun and the holograms appeared. I was devastated as I felt I had just wasted all my time for nothing. Plus I spent hundreds of dollars for my porter cable and menzerna polishes which aren't very cheap.

When I did my truck I had a few spots that looked similar. The truck had been repainted and I could see runs in the paint where it looked like that after I polished it with UC. Going over it again just made it more obvious.

I hear ya man. I just got my porter cable Meguiars kit the other day. I know they aren't cheap. I usually do everything with my Makita rotary. But, I wanted to add the Porter to my arsenal.

Like I said though...if you need some compound. I've got a lot of different kinds. I actually have some spare bottles of this stuff called Race Glaze. I got bottles of their leveling compound. I'm not too familiar with Race Glaze. But, I have tried it...and it works pretty well. It's meant to be able to work it wet...which helps you get quite a few passes with it. If polishing again doesn't help. Let me know and I can send it to you.:dblthumb2:

I just finished redoing my door with nano polish and white pad and still the same. However, After maneuvering my lamp to the door I noticed that the the marks only appear to come directly off the light bulb and run vertical down my door and never horizontal. When I polished this time I only polished in horizontal lines only to see if I was creating the marks but I guess I wasn't. Maybe it's just the way the light reflects off my paint but the thin beams on the paint can sure have a 3d effect so who knows.

When you glide your hand over it...is it completely flush? I'm wondering if the clear coat ran or something. Try the baggie trick and see if you can feel anything raised at all.

Try holding a spotlight to the spot and take a pic

In any case, if I cant remove a spot by buffing, I'd take a PTG reading and if its safe, I'd wetsand the area and then Compound>polish>finish.
(it wont do anything if the defect is below the clearcoat though!)

Would you be able to get a closer picture of it? The closer the better.

I'll try. I just tried another test spot with sip and orange pad with no difference. I'm starting to think I'm just being anal and this is normal.

I can't get a photo with the lighting I have in my garage so here is a larger photo of my previous pic I posted. You gotta remember these marks aren't a stationary stain on the paint. These marks have a 3d effect and move where ever the light goes like holograms. They also look like polish residue but you can't wipe them away.

From what you're describing they sound like buffer marks. Have you tried a swirl remover?

They just don't look like buffer marks in the picture. This is one of those things that needs trial and error. I'm feeling your pain here buddy, ha.

The only time I've seen marks like that is from a soft cloth car wash bay. It looks just like the holograms the wash leaves on the paint.

I have a little regular scratchX not the 2.0 left. What color pad do I try it out on and what speed on porter cable and how long?
