What are you listening to...?

I like the "oldies" from the 40's, 50's and 60's, anything from the old standards and the big bands to early R&R, but right now I'm listening to the Yankee game on the local country music station.

Pandora quick mix of my dozen or so stations...

Just went from Say by John Mayer to...

Runaway by Linkin Park then into

My Way by Limp Bizkit!

I think my heads gonna explode.

Yeah my quick mix on Pandora goes from Hendrix to Iron Maiden to the Chili Peppers to Miles Davis to Drums and Bass to Muddy Waters to Black Sabbath to Frank Zappa and everything inbetween! (NO COUNTRY!)

Love it, Klasse Act!!! Diversity is what i love, sounds like you run the gamut too.

I hate to admit to you though...i have a couple of Country artists i've tossed in and what's funny is i was never a country fan (no offense inteneded to those who like it).

Although going from Saliva or Disturbd to Lady Antebelum throws me in circles!

Puckman, I can stomach the "old country" because its real and you know it is but this "new country".....FRAUD! Their industry got dooped back in the mid 90's with Shania Twain and now its Taylor Swift! Putting on cowboy boots doesn't make you country and if you really listen to her music, there's NOTHING country about it! Oh yeah and another thing, she isn't HOTT either, nothing sexy about her at all, atleast Shania was HOTT!!

I'm sorry but when I think of country I see Wrangler jeans, huge belt buckles, boots and terrible looking shirts (see Garth Brooks) and speaking of him, how in the hell did someone like that outsell the Beatles? This new country is so throw away, in today and out tomorrow and will never leave a mark that will stand the test of time, IMHO (not so humble!) My g/f likes country and its sucks, wish she was more into what I like but then again, opposites attract, right.

I'm 42 years old and most of the stuff I like was out before I was born or when I was still in diapers or in grade school, today's music just isn't the same as it used to be. I know there's groups out there I haven't heard of but just wished they made it out so I could get exposed to them. Take Santana for instance, #3 on my favorites list, where's the musicianship in music like that today.......I don't hear it at all! Also take a band like Earth, Wind and Fire.....listen to how complex that music is, why is there not something like on the radio today?

Ok, I've stepped off of my soapbox, sorry, LOL!

Perfect perspective Klasse, i'm with ya brotha! I agree with everything you said. My point was more focused on my desire for diversity and there are a couple (ahem, cough cough) Willie Nelson's thrown in to my mix but the huge majority is from bands like U2, Van Halen, Yes etc. Occasional Steely Dan's, Eminem, Linkin Park, Rush etc etc etc.

I listen to a whole bunch of different stuff and like to maintain an open mind towrds new stuff. Again, i couldn't agree more with the progression of present day music and the "substance" lost in recent decades but it remains a means of expression that fits me sometimes.

And i resisted hip hop for years. Couldn't stomach most of that but where is Linkin Park in that genre? I know, i know far from mainstream hip hop but closer than we might want to admit. And i'm freakin 53! At the rate i'm going i might be doing P Diddy by my 54th! However, will never let go of my yearning for "old school" stuff!

Just listen to this groove and the horn section, amazing!

The radio today is UNLISTENABLE (not a word, yes, I know) I mean how do people still listen to the following songs, really:

-Back in Black
-Shook me all night long
-Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
(ok, most AC/DC songs)
-Old time rock and roll
-anything from the Steve Miller band
-most Journey songs (post Gregg Rollie)

The above is just a minute sample of what's old, tried and burned out on the radio today and I'm sure its like this everywhere around the country....right? I love Hendrix for instance, my favorite but when I hear "Foxy Lady" or "Purple Haze" for instance, I almost break my finger changing the station. Same for Zeppelin, "Rock and Roll" or "Black Dog", bruised fingers once again. You get these classic artists with actual catalogs of music and you get the same 4-7 songs from them, is everyone out that brain dead?! I just know there's someone out there fist pumping to "Shook me all night long", sickening!

My name is Roger and yes, I'm a music snob!

Yes, once again, no argument from me. Are you sure your not a distant brotha from a different motha? I am a HUGE Hendrix fan and have the same aversion to Foxy Lady and Purple Haze! I detest the fact that the media selects what i should hear and from which artists. That is why the internet is so valuable and i love Pandora. I will find what i like and the source seems endless!

I will also add that my hatred for Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, Stairway To Heaven etc. is countered by Redhouse, Voodoo Child, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and Ramble on. I will find what i like and i like having them available. Plus the search has yielded new "likes".

It's all good, Klasse and thanks for sharing your perspective. Music, as a form of art, can get contentious, especially on the internet. I like to "live and let live" and never hate or condemn different tastes or points of view. There is something for everyone but the pursuit of the almighty dollar dictates what gets publically aired making the search for what one likes tougher. Keep searchin...

Hey Puckman, do you agree with me that the original release of Band of Gypsy's live at the Filmore is one of the greatest recordings.....ever?!

This is good one, your on a deserted island and you can only have 3 songs, which would they be.....here's mine:

-Band of Gypsy's "Machine Gun"
-Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood" (live from the El Macombo)
-Santan "Europa" from Moonflower

No doubt is a solid band, the song "Spider Web" is my favorite for sure or "no doubt", if you will, LOL! Also like their cover of "Its my life", great groove on both songs!
