Being 42 Yancy could you tell me about some of these newer bands, I just don't the impression there's much to them, as far as musicianship or substance....thanks. sorry, I wouldn't know one of their songs if I heard it and certainly wouldn't know one of them walking down the street, LOL.

All depends what you are into. Chevelle has been around for awhile now, alternative/hard rock.
I agree with you that there are so many new bands out there that it is hard to keep up. There are no Led Zepplin's, Rolling Stones or Beatles anymore. Sad but true. Since I have been running the radio station I have been getting into a lot of new unsigned or indie label alternative artists. They find me on Twitter, I give them a listen and if I like it, gets played. I love music and if it wasn't for me doing art I would be doing that.
If you want give me some ideas of who you like and I can recommend some newer bands that are that genre.
Hear are a few new bands that I have been jammin to lately,
Birds of Toyko, Neontropics (Was the first to play them in US), Mia Klose (Lita Fordish rock), Billy Talent, Blue Stahli (tecno/rock - really cool sound - the song "Ultranumb" is kickin'), Dead Sara, Seasons After, Van Susans

Well Yancy I like Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana and Miles Davis, just to name a few. I like musicianship above everything and I just hear muffled guitar in todays music, no complicated drumming or pronounced bass playing.
What happened to the guitar hero and for that matter the guitar solo? Thankfully there's a lot of old music I haven't heard yet, so what was once old is new again, right.
Your so right Yancy, there are no Zeppelin's today, just can't capture the right blend like they had. Today's music is so packaged, I see a table with a bunch of tools sitting there and saying they know what's hot and we've got A SONG to put out there where everyhone gets paid and we can then move to the next thing.
I guess I don't know what the current music is called either, I mean you had the British Invasion, Physadalic (spelling) rock, Arena rock, Metal, Hair bands and then Grunge and then...........? Seems that after Grunge played its coarse the music had no ID to it. I don't need to know what I'm listening to to like it but it still means something.

You can thank Warrant for that, they killed music, heck they even admit it. There are a few good bands still, will put together a track list for you to check out.

At the time, I didn't like hair bands but looking back, the songs stand the test of time. I mean its not handed down like a Zep album would've been by an older brother or cool uncle was, that's for sure, nothing is ground breaking or solid from start to finish like any Zep album, today's music is played one week or so and then is looooooong gone!
I know Muse isn't brand new but I consider them a newer band and they can play for sure. That being said, nothing is catchy today, you just don't get it in your head and never forget it.
Even a band like Earth, Wind and Fire, where's complex music like that today in popular music or Sly and the Family Stone for instance, stuff everyone likes?

Thank God Rush is FINALLY going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....along with Public Enemy, LOL! Public Enemy belongs in a Hall of Fame of some kind, just not the Rock and Roll HOF.
Rush released this song called "Caravan" about 2 yrs ago before the album came out and it was played on the local rock station and then I never heard it again, did anyone else hear it and did the album come out? If so, this what I mean, good music from older bands and it goes away.
Rush is the only band I've ever seen where everyone sat for the entire concert except for after Peart's drum solo, awesome show, Eric Johnson opened up, equally awesome!

I just picked up a few Rush albums about 2 weeks ago. I ended up getting Fly by Night, A Farewell to Kings and Moving Pictures. I think I'll be buying 2112 next. I instantly fell in love. I've always had a thing for bass guitar and Geddy Lee is an incredible bassist.
About the Rock n Roll hall of fame, Rush just recently went mainstream and according to Geddy Lee he wasn't mad, he was just waiting patiently for the time to come.
FYI, Amazon has Rush CD's on sale for 4 bucks a piece, can't beat that deal.
