What are you listening to...?

Just remember, when you bring up Sonic Youth to a future group on the net someone will probably say the same thing, in addition to "who". I'm not "hip" enough to be into the type of music I guess but I do understand the allure of music that you REALLY like that noone really knows.

Sonic Youth is 32 years old as a band (now defunct for last few years). Them members are in their late 50s and early 60s. In just messing with you guys, I know music is a personal preference.

If I hear Stairway to Heaven one more time...

Hey Swan, I didn't know that about them or even some of the other bands you posted about in that other thread about favorite albums. I knew you were kidding but we can all agree that the music that's popular today SUCKS!

I agree. The only people pushing the envelope or saying anything today is with rap. I don't like rap at all, but at least there is still some creativity in some of it.

Too many kids are just happy with their X Boxes. The kids don't really care about music. For the most part, they don't sleep out for tickets like we did - they sleep out for Call if Duty.

Well said Swan but they sure can play Guitar Hero, they probably think they're the next Jeff Beck....oh, my bad, they probably don't even know who he is, LOL!

There is good music out there if you search for it. It also depends on what your preferred genre is also. The problem with really good music is that it DOESN'T get air play on radio stations (especially in Chicago). It seems like the only way to find good music now is forum posts like these, recommendations from friends trolling samples endlessly on amazon, and going to shows with a lot of opening acts that haven't been "discovered" yet and still have some integrity.

When I think of Jeff Beck, I think of a guy on stage making his guitar talk with some effect pedal.

A lot of the legends use a "wha-wha" pedal, sounds good to me. He's still up there playing a strat, making it sing and stepping on pedals at the same time. Check out his DVD at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club from 2007, many of his peers are in the audience too!
