I just read a thread on adding Baby oil with Megs 105 to reduce dusting....
Now I believe this thread could be like gold to those of us who don't experiment mixing products/chemicals to get good results with less work, and I want to hear the pros and cons of such uses.. Debates welcome just no slashing/insults I've also read you can mix M105 & M205 at what % I don't know, but is that good for a single stage polish on a "not so" maintained vehicle?

Feed back please

I use Pinnacle pad conditioner and it cuts the dusting prob of M105.

I'll definitely have to try baby oil! lol(My mom will think I'm nuts when I ask her to get baby oil for my car lol!)

I'd go for Ultimate compound as a one stepper!

maybe follow it with M205!

You can mix optimum polish II to poli-seal to make a AIO with appreciable cut!! (one step for a more neglected finish!! :D)

Prefections said:
70/30, 70% poly seal 30% polish II

I like to mix Pro Trouble shooter with Pro swirl Eliminator for a little more swirl killing power on darker cars adding a little Meg's ultimate compound works well also.

One time in college I took these 3 girls and a chicken then.. Oh wait. Detailing secrets.

Products are designed to perform a specific function. Manufactures do quite a bit of development and testing to ensure their product performs as intended before they release it to the public.

Many users, with good reason, don't want to modify the chemical composition of a product and when you think about it, it does make sense. Who are we to decide that their formulation needs a little more of this or a little less of that?

That said, when we struggle with a product, in this case Meguiar's M105, in most cases we try several different approaches to remedy the problem; reading the instructions, research online, try it again. When that doesn't work tend to experiment a little.

We are very resourceful creatures and work very hard at problem solving. We also recognize dangers and common sense tells us not to go there.

Meguiar's M105 is a great product however it can be challenging to use and instead of setting it aside we tend to try different things; a squirt of pad conditioner, detail spray, water, a little more priming, or adding a few drops of baby oil or mineral oil. Each one of these remedies change the chemical characteristics of a product slightly.

Have I tried the baby oil trick? Yes I have and it worked very well allowing more working time and gave me the result I was hoping for with no adverse affects that I could detect.

When we find something that seemingly works we tend to stick with it, providing that it doesn't have any downside or negative affects. What's the worst thing that could happen, damage the paint? While upsetting it's not life altering.

It's about what works for us as an individual.

So if hitting with a hammer till the scratch is gone works for me then its ok right? LOL Just kidding i completely agree but i still dont like the baby oil idea mixing two detailing products and mixing a detailing product with something meant for a baby's butt seem like two different things. ok time to get off the forums and get to work DAMN YOU AUTOGEEK lol

Then there is a guy that sprays furniture polish on his motor home to clean it.

This thread got me thinking of the Pledge commercial, I think I will try that as a ONR or maybe just a QD.

Since I HATE tape/back taping door jambs... I found that backer rod works really well.

Never stop looking for better products, equipment and learning new techniques.

Thats funny! We use/do almost the same thing when painting cars. There is an adhesive on one side that allows it to stick to the jamb. We place it in there to prevent overspray from getting into the door jambs. Never thought about using it in detailing.

I'm am not impugning Meguairs but there are many factors that go into development of a product eg. marketing, profit, technical issues, etc. So any product might be able to be improved by users. (sometimes this is called invention). Even sometimes engineers just screw up, like Toyota's gas pedal/floor mat fiasco or any other of the many recalls.

Some people here are modifying flex back plates to use 5" pads. Why didn't flex provide this. They didn't see a market or it compromised the integrity of the back plate, who knows.

The point is that manufacturers are not infalible

I saw that pledge commercail and thought I would NEVER put pledge on my leather seats. Maybe a customers lol. Jk! Jk!

I'll definitely have to try baby oil! lol(My mom will think I'm nuts when I ask her to get baby o)

Buy ingestable mineral oil (for constipation) at Target - cheaper than baby oil and more oz. per bottle to boot (about $1.60 for 16 oz.here in Denver).

I bought mineral oil at CVS for conditioning my cutting boards. However, I wanted to use a small spray bottle to apply a spritz to the pad for even distribution and it was too thick. Baby oil works fine as a spray.
