I've been looking because our 5 year old 2.1 MP camera just doesn't quite cut it anymore. It's not great with indoor pictures, closeups are often rather blurry, and sunny car pictures are just way overexposed. I've been researching, and think I'm settled on a Canon S2 IS or S3 IS.

So what do you guys/gals use for your best glimmering shots?

Samsung L55W. 5.0MP 4.8x optical zoom, 2.8" 16:9 screen.

Love it.

$349.99 at Best Buy, got it for $210 (one week old, but otherwise new) off ebay.

I use a Nikon d50 SLR but I don't think you are in the market for that...

Ive got the Canon Power shot A620. 7.1 mp, and so advanced that i cant understand half of it. But i takes good pictures. Dont know if they are to be sold in the US?

Minolta Dimage 4.0 and a Sony 7.1 depending on where I am carrying them.

6.1 megapixel Kodak Z760

Abrcrombe, why do you have such a "swell" camera? Nice!

Canon G6, 7.1 MP. I like it for what it is.

You can use it as a point and shoot or adjust a multitude of settings manually (WB, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc.) RAW image format is nice as well. Good color balance right off the bat. Usually doesn't require any tweaking in Photoshop, which is a huge difference from my first 2.1 MP Canon.

For my next camera I'll probably look into an entry-level SLR. But this one's fine for now.

I love photography. I use it to take pics of other things besides cars :). Has to be one of the best toys I have, and I get to play with it tonight. Subject: 3 of the coolest kids I know (not mine):p

Canon PowerShot A80 bought it 3 years ago...for a 4Mg camera it does more than I know how to do...just look at the pictures I take!

I think mine is a Nikon. I should pull it out and see.

Sony DSC-N1 a 8MP...but there is now a Sony DSC-N2 10MP. I like the Sony just for its 3" LCD and the beautiful colour balance and sharpness - all in a very compact body no bigger than a packet of playing cards.

Heres a landscape which has been stitched...

Taken with my DSC-N1, the shot is from the golf club in my home town in Australia.

I have a Canon 30d SLR with a few lenses, but I've also owned Canon g3,g5,g6,s80,s400 and I've worked with a few sony, fuji's, minolta and nikon's. By far the best are Canon. the IS's will add a little to the optical zoom over the other, very nice camera, the S2 I beleive is discontinued.

yeah, it is hard to beat the Canon. I still have the orignal EOS-1 SLR and it blew all the other cameras that i've owned away including Nikon. The USM L series lenses are just superb, pin sharp, beautiful colour balance and very little to no distortion and its a bright lenses as well. If you're gonna opt for the Canon DSLR, don't skimp on the lenses.

It all comes down to what you want to carry and do. Just for car shots, a compact that fits in the pocket is more than adequate and with the 8MP or 10MP. Telescoping shots at the bikes or car races or just to zoom to a hawt chic, the DSLR.

i've more than done my time with the SLRs so i'm all for the compacts now.

The S2 can still be had, and at about $75 less than the S3, which is why I'm having a hard time deciding. I'll mostly be shooting the usual stuff, family, vacations, cars. Seeing some of the great pictures posted by S2/S3 users on dcresource.com, I'd like to get a couple filters as well so I can get some nice pictures of nature and whatnot occasionally.
