What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Was for 1st month or 2, then seem to calm down. I’ll take 2 months of shiny for over 2 years of protection.

Cool, thanks. Is it ok on new (or almost-new) car trim? I took delivery of my 2023 MINI in August and have been letting it age a bit before doing the trim and interior. I do have a fresh glass bottle Dlux to use, though. What would you use?

I’ve read a lot of good about Dlux and would use that if I had it.

I think I would wait myself six months to let trim gas/settle and then coat.

Got some Meguiar's Last Touch on sale today, thought test it on Qashqai, which has attracted a bit of dust since being driven earlier in the week. Works as described, funny odour though. Half n half shot of the hood showing how much dust I was dealing with.

There’s a looong thread from maybe 8-9 years ago about headlight restoration. You can skip a few steps and save time, effort and $upplie$ by stopping at 1500 or 2000 grit then UV coating (or using the McGyver minwax/OMS coating from that thread). You’ll get the same clarity, plus a minimum two years of protection. I use a commercial UV-cured coating that on some cars has lasted five years. On seriously hazy lenses I’ll go dry 320, then wet 500-800-1500 and inspect. Less hazy lenses I start at 500. The 3000 and 5000 discs get spendy in a big hurry.

Wait….. you used a QD….. to…… remove……. That…… much………dust?!? . Somebody pull this guys geek card!

Jk…..i would think a QD has more lubricant to remove the dust…. In fact I use to QD dirty cars before someone showed me what a car looked like once you polished swirls away…..

Last Touch was my drying aid for a long time, so easy to work with. Still get it out every now and then.

You don't like the scent? I always thought it was quite nice.

I usually just use maybe 1 or 2 of each since they come with the kit for $16 and 15 sheets from 300 to 10.000 Ii usually just throw anything over 5 away. But I was afraid to go that low on grit. Thanks for the heads up. Also I need to look into your other recommendations. is this the one? there's a ton and I just want to find the one your talking about. I'm pretty sure with it being 09 and a ton of replies this is the one.

I'll hold judgement for the moment, I'm still getting over a gastro bug so my sense of smell could be out. I didn't hate it, but I can't quite place it.

I took procession of a brand new IK sprayer yesterday! My old pump sprayer, a Blackfire top mount hand sprayer, actually sprung a leak as I was pumping it up last weekend attempting to demo how to do a WW to a buddy, it was kinda funny to be honest. That pump was O L D and served me well

This new one though is AWESOME but I shouldn't be surprised, it's an IK and now I've got 5 in total

Went to the coin op and touchless wash in Wasilla while we were in the area

Spent $15 at the coin op and then went through the $18 touchless for the undercarriage blast

The car is clean but the $18 touchless didn’t even get all the soap off the back end and there was no one around to send me through again

I’m cursed apparently, I angered the detailing gods

Maybe do that the other way around next time?

Nah, using the presoak and high pressure in the coin op side is the only way to get the road grime off

And at 4 degrees I pretty much have to have the drying blaster on the touch less side last or the doors would be frozen shut since I’m parking outside

Honestly this is the best it’s been in a couple of months so I’ll take it

Like Klasse said, touchless washes don’t like the back end of these hatch back cars

When I first read this, I honestly thought you were recommending reversing through the touchless wash. But maybe that would work.

LMAO

I thought the exact same thing

But I would rather have a clean dry snout than a shiny bum...

Bird #### on my Xpel. Ended up with the Meguiars 105 out and some hand polishing. First time I had a bird crap mess up a PPF. Got it out and alls well.

Touchless translated in the Inuit language means “still dirty” I believe
