What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I’m 28 miles away.

The smell of smoke & ash got so bad last night that I had to go out to my car to retrieve a covid mask and wore it to sleep. I normally always have a window open but had to close it. Everything was caked in ash dust this morning. I used the blower to sweep the backyard and the layer of dust was back in short time.

My brother took this picture from Koreatown, which is 17 miles away from Pacific Palisades and you can see the huge cloud of smoke from that far away.

I know that smell, back when we were moving house at the end of 2019, Sydney was ringed by bushfires, we were packing up our house and had no option but to leave the doors open, so the smell permeated everything for about a month. I know you're safe from the fires where you are, but that smoke can get you as well, stay out of it as much as you can.

Stay safe bud. Its a shame that we will never know the truth on what or who and why it started. Can only speculate.

Is there some nefarious element to this that I have missed?

The Hollywood Hills are on fire now.
This is devastating. When will it stop? There’s no containment yet.

It's 30 degrees today, I just had to, the salt was killing me and I swear I didn't see any traffic film, but that wasn't the objective here

This is the basic touch-free wash w/underbody, the more important thing and while on my 3.6 mile drive home...no CEL

I'd call that a win in my book.

If you get tired of washing your EN I have the 350 that's covered in salt from my wife driving it while I'm at work. I'll pencil you in for this weekend. 😁

I purchased a short house for my pressure washer to save time dealing with hauling out the long when the pw has a long hose too. My water heater is in the garage but no cold water!

You should have a cold water line feeding into your water heater. Should be a fairly easy task to tap into that cold supply and T off a few feet of copper or even Pex and add a hose bib.

I invited a customer from last week back to learn how to do a rinseless wash. She paid for her SUV with her own money and goes to college on the beach and wants to preserve her vehicle from saltwater damage. Unlike most of my customers I offer to teach how to do a RW, she actually bought and came back just in time to beat the great NC blizzard of 2025. Even though the vehicle was old and has heavy water spotting, scratches, a few dent and a plethora of other imperfections she was extremely proud of her SUV and unlike my coating customers, she seems excited to take care of it.

I also had an unfortunate conversation with my newly acquired maintenance customer. She was in the market for a new Infiniti and wanted it coated. She went through with the purchase and wanted to set up the first detail and told me that she no longer needed to have the vehicle coated because the dealership applied ceramic to the exterior and interior at a lovely add-on price of $1000. I had to give her the unfortunate news that the dealership applied a spray sealant worth $10 if she’s lucky. I hate our litigious culture, but in this case I think a class action lawsuit is in order for all the dealerships that rob people this way.

Order came in today (one yesterday), tools and products. I was OVERDUE for new cleaning tools, especially a wheel barrel/spoke brush, my Speed Master was pretty warn out and it's replacement looks to be more efficient. While I was at it I ordered a new tire scrub brush, new Mother's wheel face/spoke brush and scrub mitt grit guard and a tool caddie from Amazon...now I've gotta wait till next month to use the tools

I also broke a resolution for the new year, kinda. I said no more RW's but what I bought here are pre-wash/treats for when doing a rinseless wash, not exactly the same thing I also ordered 2 bottles for each product, they actually sent me 3, I'll take it (thank you email going out tomorrow)

There's something about using new tools, the barrel brush I'm REALLY looking forward to because once wet it will go flat to clean the barrels better and also anything else it comes in contact with

The Labocosmetica pre-treats for RW really peaked my interest, should really come in handy during the winter. I went with 1:10 ratio for both and they'll be used accordingly, ACIDIC sparingly for coating reset, probably used exclusively with Feynlab RW v3 for an absolute CLEAN surface resetting

Stay "tuned"....

A bit of light wheel cleaning and tyre dressing. A dampened MF was all that was needed for the wheels, and I used Meg's Hyper Dressing and applicator on the tyres.

I had a second bottle of Hyper Dressing that I realised I was never going to get to, they were half price so I bought 2, naturally. I gave it to my nephew for his Tuscon, he admitted he's never used any dressing on the trim of the Hyundai, but I have to say, it hasn't faded noticeably, so it should look good, if he uses it.

It doesn't look much different, but I felt like I had to do something.

Well that didn't take long... although the writing was on the wall back when you made the Labo thread

Klasse,
That grit guard looks like a good one. Same concept as the Detail Guardz with the venturi design which is the only way to go IMO.

I prefer the Grit Guardz and their scrub wall as I use my cleaned out buckets to store my 4 PFM drying towels in one bucket and scrub ninja, glass towels, wheel towels, 2 wash mitts and one rinseless sponge in the other bucket. All that fits in the buckets with the grit guardz and scrub wall installed in the buckets.

When I go to use the buckets for washing I just place the bucket lids on my bench and place the contents of each bucket on the lids so they don't get contaminated with anything that might be on the bench. Then just use the items as I need them.

Wouldn't call it a system but allows me to have everything I need already at hand with the exception of the rinseless or shampoo solution. Also use a bucket caddy that holds a 16oz bottle of my drying aid and a detail brush.

The snowpacalypse of 2025 didn’t materialize but instead we got a few inches of ice. As it melted on the roads and turned to slush, it coated my car with a nice layer of brine and mud and there are two things I don’t let sit on my car; bird poo and brine. It was just warm enough to use the pressure washer so broke open my bottle of Touch-Less and went full strength (2% PIR) and did a touchless wash just to remove the brine and broke out the undercarriage washer and removed some ungodly slush from my underbody. To the untrained eye, my car looks spot free but there’s still some road grime residue left so tomorrow it’s going to be warmer so I’ll hit it with some Descale followed by Reset and try out my bottle of ADS Amplify. If it’s half as good as y’all say I’ll go ahead and place my next ADS order.
