What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I enjoyed DreamMaker but that could just be in my head… Xpress is only thing I’ll keep using as it’s been great to use. 40/60 (40%express) lathers well if needed and wiped clean

I really struggled with Dream Maker. Sure, it was glossy, but I found you have to work far too hard to get it streak free. I tried cutting it with Bead Maker (Clean Maker) and it was much, much better.

The Worth Having List -

Brake Buster - I like this because you can dial it up or down depending on needs, foam it or spray direct. I also love how it lathers.

Xpress - I also like this for the lathering, cleans well and doesn't leave a residue. I've never felt the need to dilute it.

Paint Gloss - Just a quick detailer, which are virtually all the same thing, but I love the scent and its ease of use. I also use it a vacuum aid to reduce static.

Bead Maker - Yeah, it has its quirks, but I still get a kick out of using this product. Not much comes close to it for that warm, glossy and slick finish, which makes it very wax-like. Again, the scent plays a role too.

Rags To Riches - Towels are expensive, especially good drying towels. Spending the money on a dedicated detergent keeps towels in rotation for longer. I had this stuff revive older towels on the brink of replacement.

Absolute - It seems you either love or hate this stuff. I'm in the like camp, mainly for the slickness and feel, especially teamed with a few spritz of Bead Maker when drying, a lovely combo.

True Vue - Just a no nonsense glass cleaner. The dilutable gallon concentrate will last you years.

Swift - A very versatile interior detailer that has a nice balance between cleaning and dressing. I also really like it as a dressing for rubber mats, just wash, mist with the product and allow it to self-level. Unique scent too.

Clarity Creme - A glass polish / deep cleaner that is super easy to use, be that by hand or machine. That bottle will last you for decades.

Radiance - This is borderline here, its not very concentrated so blow through a lot, and it doesn't foam well. However, I do like the slickness it leaves behind.

The Don't Bother List -

Pearl - One of the worst soaps I've used. "Oh, but its super good value".......................no its not, not if you have to use three times as much for it to even approach usability. You can buy Adam's Car Shampoo for less and its way, way better across all metrics. And to think P&S were suggesting Pearl could be used as a rinse-less wash at a pinch.

Dream Maker - A pointless addition to the line. It only exists because Anthony from TRC liked the WoWo's Showstopper and wanted a replacement after they canned the WoWo's brand. Smear city and not worth the effort.

Shine All - Far too glossy for my tastes.

Defender - This is borderline, nothing wrong with it but nowhere near as slick and glossy as Bead Maker.

Frostbite - As a pre-wash, this product is fairly useless, which means its a waste of time. Foams well though.

The Fragrance Line - I got all excited about having a Bead Maker or Absolute interior scent, but they last less than an hour. Again, virtually useless.

The boss aka my mother put a nice scratch in the second wheel picture because she couldn't be bothered to reverse and kissed the curb.
Since my boss doesn't drive we had our son go with us to the dealer to pick up the new truck. I expected him to drive the truck home but he chose to drive the big Lexus back instead

A few days later the boss tells me our son got mad because someone parked behind where I had parked the Lexus at the dealership and he wasn't familiar with all the cameras and the 360 aerial display so when he was trying to back the Lexus out he hit the curb

All I could do was picture a mangled $1,500 rim and by the time we got home from wherever we were I was so worked up I am surprised I didn't have a stroke

I looked both passenger side tires over and couldn't see any damage at all

I am down to the last 20% of a gallon of Micro Restore and I think I will try Rags to Riches since everyone seems to rave about it

If I do that I am also going to try Swift as well and I might as well give Brake Buster another try

Brake Buster didn't work for me in Hawaii but I think it was down to the water

Did a rinseless wash on the Chevelle with Duragloss 932. Last time i had it out i got caught in a downpour.

Not knocking anyone who uses it but i just cant see how those dedicated micro fiber detergents can do anything that a free and clear detergent cant do.
One thing i know Rags To Riches will clean better and that is clean out ones wallet as its roughly 4 times the cost of free and clear detergents.

I think back to the days when some of us were using Woolite and Calgon water softener because microfiber detergents and free and clear weren't a thing yet and I remember pre-soaking in a bucket with Simple Green to break down the various products we use, and with today's MF soaps and free and clear I don't feel the need to do that presoak and I think towels feel better and last longer than they used to

My washing machine has an auto dispenser and we use free and clear but I also add a single oz of MF soap and I add vinegar to the rinse dispenser and I THINK my towels are better off for it

Maybe it is all in my head but I just did the maths and a gallon of MF soap works out to 28 cents per load adding 1 oz to my free and clear

Cheap insurance in my book, and if it just a placebo, then it is a cheap placebo

YMMV

Speaking of dedicated MF detergent

Today was laundry day

I would personally add reflect to that list. Really saved my butt during some really heavy rain.

Rags to riches and ABsolute are also definitely worth having even if I prefer othern RRs more.

I found its very good for my drying and glass towels, mainly when I use a drying aide or glass cleaner that has protection. my drying towels are definitely more absorbant now.

I wouldnt use it on my standard microfiber unless it was used for applying a sealant. I do think the price is too high.

All I could do was picture a mangled $1,500 rim

And I thought it was bad 20 years ago when I got a price on a wheel for my car and it was $700. It wouldn't be so bad if tires weren't so low-profile so it's so easy to curb a wheel. Back in the old days you scuffed the tire and walked it off.

I just found some online for $900

Such a bargain

So something I learned while visiting Griots. The recommend using both. Detergents win at removing (I believe they said organic) dirt and debris, bird bombs and such. MF detergents better at cleaning (inorganics?) like sealants, waxes and polishes.

I think it’s why my drying towels have been good for 6+ years… I’ve been using mainly griots and R&R mixed with a free and clear using hot water.

Another thing that helps IMO to keep towels useful, is throwing the qd/wax/ceramic soaked towels into old wash water and let them sit overnight. The water dilutes the qd/wax/whatever and prevents it from curing in the towel.
