What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Customer calls me because he’s concerned that the chrome bumpers on his classic ride are beginning to rust. Asks me if there’s anything I can do...

So I pack my bag with 5 different metal polishes, and at the last second I remember to bring some Steel Wool.

Before:

After using the steel wool, Dry.

Brilliant shine restored without even having to use a metal polish.
It was like saving his babylol.

Is that steel wool 0000?

Yes Sir.

Steel wool works great on exhaust pipes that are in bad condition. Back when it was used on pitted/poor_condition windshields which is still doable however much better products exist today.

I have some minor scratches in a chrome door handle. I thought about trying steel wool but wasn't sure if it was safe and there's no place to do a test spot. The bumpers look great but I also wonder if there's a different type of plating than the one used on a door handle.

It’s different. Don’t use steel wool on plastic chrome. It’ll scratch plastic chrome. Once there’s swirls/minor scratches in plastic chrome there’s really no fix. You can remove dullness and spotting with a cleaner wax, but not swirls and scratches.

I rinseless washed the wife’s Beast. I used McKee’s Rinse Free Wash & Wax because it was what I grabbed while not looking. Neighbor washed his Durango SRT this afternoon as well. You can’t see it in the pic but looking out my front window I could see the gloss from across the street!

Clay barred the wife’s car. Used a razor blad to lightly go over the glass with lots and lots of lube to get the big sap spots off without scratching. Hoping to polish tonight/tomorrow and throw some sio2 toppers on

I like that offset stripe he has, we could do a nice matte satin one on your wife's ride, maybe a dark ruby...I say "we" as in YOU bring it in to MY buddy's shop and HE does the work, that kinda of WE

Thanks. Modified Gary Dean method. Used about 3 towels per vehicle here since they were cleaned earlier. Hydroshot to wet them down. 4-5 gals of Wolfgang Uber.

Yep. I took both through a touch less car wash before giving them a nice rinse less in my garage. My wife's was pretty bad but mine wasn't. Still......it's $12 for a really nice system including under body and blow dry so small-beans to make life easier for me

That will never happen as she makes fun of his stripe already. She likes her Beast the way it is; factory stock and clean.
