What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I decided to try out the Turtle Wax Wheel & Tire Cleaner I bought a couple of weeks ago. First pic before, second during, third is how the run off looked, last is after it dried. I am impressed with the amount of brown it removed, but it doesn't look any better after, the wheel definitely isn't as glossy. I've never chemically cleaned these tyres before, so they probably need a few more treatments. I had a store credit at an auto shop, so I bought some Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing to try out, but I'm hesitant to try it till I get rid of some more of the brown.

is the last pic the after?....it looked better before you cleaned it....lol

Also did you use a brush?...if not I'm sure that is the issue

Yeah, that's after, I'm thinking it's somehow bringing the brown to the surface. Of course I could be wrong, this stuff could be a scam and I'm actually applying the brown instead, how embarrassing.

My tires look like that quite often after a good cleaning. I usually use Super Clean or Purple Power full strength, so I don't believe it's any fault of the TW. I think it falls back on the chemical composition of the rubber in the tire as I've noticed it happening more often with "performance rated" tires than "low performance," cheap tires...just something *I* have run into.

You can either give them one more good scrubbing to make sure everything that can be removed is, or just dress them. IME, even after the dressing "wears off," the splotchy look doesn't come back.

That's alot of B R O W N (Regular Car Review reference) Now I know you know what your doing Dave but did you use a brush to agitate Also we know you "use your truck as intended" and therefore it must have alot dirt in them. I'd like to see a couple more cleanings but it really did remove ALOT of B R O W N

This might call for another product to test here...CarPro Retyre

I definitely agitated, used my regular wheel face brush, like the one below, followed the instructions exactly. I don't think I need to get any more aggressive, bristle wise, it's just that I've never de-browned these particular tyres before, and there is just so much rubber involved. I was reading somewhere that they call this blooming. I'll have another try tomorrow, but as was said earlier, I could just cover it up with some dressing again. I'm sure seeing this makes you guys happy most of you are driving on your rubber bands.

Thanks Dave!

I'm sure a couple more cycles of cleaning will net less blooming because you use that truck and you've never been afraid to get it dirty. I'd really like to see what CarPro Retyre could do there

Finally had a moment to clean my baby today. It was 29 degrees outside, but thank goodness for heated garages lol.

I feel the BrakeBuster does the same. Tire browns right away but after cleaning if i hit it with 303 looks like BB didn’t do anything. Good and cheap for maintained wheels though.

If it’s first cleaning in a while though may take a couple cycles

I thought I had to much road crap to try Frothe and was probably right when pouring the wash bucket out. But will hopefully have a chance next couple days to try it again.

The work is great but as you can see in the pic you just can't put any tire up under a Duece. This car has that late 70's/early 80's stance but if the owner likes it that's all that matters I love the color ofcoarse, got any basic stats of the drivetrain?

Yeah its a decent color. Its what the owner wanted. It was simply in for all the body and paint i believe. It went back to the owner for the rest to be finished.

502cid, turbo 400, 3:73's

Not the way i would have it if it were in my name, but shiny none the less lol

How would you have it?

If it were me it would would be a 350 built to LT-1 specs (1970), 5 speed manual and 3.42 gears.

Well, this just won't do!

The rest of the fleet has sat unused in the past week meaning the Ranger was the only one that needed attention, especially after a stormy stretch.

It was out with the Brake Buster for some wheel, tyre and wheel arch cleaning.

Wheels and arches topped up with Hydr02......

Cleaned and ready to dry, I love the black bezel of the base model Ranger lights, they look angry......

After a member on another forum had a little cheeky dig at a "smudge" on my detailing seat, I couldn't leave it like that!

I mean, he had a point, how could I let it get like that! Now I can sleep tonight!
