What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

We've had light rain all day, and having driven the Qashqai I realised the wipers were performing sub-par. So I took them off and cleaned up the rubber, used a product called Rubber Roller Restorer, it's supposed to remove contamination from rubber rollers in office machines. You can see in the second shot all the gunk it removed from the blades. Last shot shows the blades looking as good as new, these blades are original, about 8 years old.

HOLY CRAP! Got to change them about twice a year here in PA.

So after 5 days at the dealership waiting for an ECU, plus a low & high horn, the EN was picked up today after work

Because it was mid 50's still at 4:30 I knew I had enough time to do a WW to remove all the dust and smuggies from it sitting outside, as well as being serviced by techs. I'm glad they listened and did NOT wash the EN

I can't say enough about DIY Detail WW, stuff is just amazing! Not only does it clean well, but also makes the paint GLOSSY and SLICK, a win, win & WIN

Now the EN is cleaned up to pick up my 2 buddies tomorrow and head to the Chicago Auto Show when it opens at 10 a.m.

After everyone went to bed I'm currently at my touch-free wash getting the g/f's Cruze washed. Used Pure:est alkaline snow foam pre-wash at a stronger ratio to get IT CLEAN

Landed a big fish for the weekend. When the owner drove up the car was pretty clean looking but whatever the dealership put on it must have had some great filling properties. After claying and pulling it into the garage I was greeted by some totally hammered black paint. The truck isn’t two years old so the original owner must have been a premium subscriber to the unlimited scratch package at the local auto wash. After a test panel I settled on using Urofiber pads with 3D One and the results speak for themselves.

While I was polishing a neighbor came and inquired about having his EV6 coated. I’ve learned to read customers and just like the majority of people near me, the price was the only thing that mattered. Quality, service, none of that factors into their decision so I’m pretty sure I’ll never see him again. And he asked if he could go to the auto wash which put him in the group of people that like the idea of coatings but won’t maintain it. Ah well. On to the next one.

We had perfect detailing weather today 24C/75f and overcast all day, and no rain this afternoon. So both vehicles got a wash.

Qashqai first, it wasn't too bad, but it did get driven in the rain earlier in the week. I used Bowden's Wheely Clean on the wheels, plenty of bleeding from the front, almost none from the back. TWHS Hyper Foam on the tyres, they're barely a year old so not much brown coming off them. Then a 2B wash with Reset, the NV Lustre/Jet combo is holding up incredibly well, so it was a very easy wash. Dried with my big Silk Dryer, using Bowden's Boss Gloss as a drying aid, which is a new thing, I always thought it was just a Quick Detailer, but I saw a video from Bowden's that showed it could be used as a drying aid, just a couple of sprays on the towel every so often while you're drying, it worked well, but the Silk Dryer is very absorbent anyway.

Next was the FJs turn, and I used the exact same process, the only differences were a lot more brown coming off the tyres, and a lot more effort required inside the wheel arches, and a little more effort required when drying the roof, a bit more climbing is required.

It's amazing the difference in doing the wheels though, the Qashqai's show the brake dust more, obviously, but are so easy to clean and look so much better when done. The FJs don't show any brake dust, but after clean up, still look a bit rubbish. It could just be the cheap powder coating finish, but I'm over black wheels, and I only polished them a few weeks back.

That thing was brutalized, but you straightened it right out!

I took 3D One as far as it could go and I know he’ll be pleased with the results but some of those scratches are deep and this paint is pretty hard. The entire body looked like it drove through barbed wire. There are still some scratches but unless you go looking for them the average person would never see them.

This is how my weekend started.

This is how it ended. The paint is so glossy I could use it as a mirror for shaving my head. Topped it with CSL + EXOv5. Now it’s time to let my shoulders rest and enjoy a little football.

I didn't realize you were still going on that thing--came out great! Enjoy the game.

I finished the top coat last night around 9:30 and did touch ups this morning. All things considered I enjoyed this much more than working on most vehicles. It’s big but mostly tall flat panels that didn’t require me to get down low much. My knees aren’t what they used to be.

How long does the Black Wow last on the trim?
So the answer is about 8 days, I noticed this yesterday. This, and the hinge cover on the back door, are the only spots I've noticed that it's gone a bit streaky. Those 8 days included rain for most of 1 day and showers on a couple of others, and 1 wash with Reset. I might put another layer on tomorrow, it should go on even easier.

I Washed the Car that Sit's Outside the Garage to minimize any potential micro-marring

1st Decent Snow Event Called and I've had a car outside the garage since I ran out of room.

It must not play nice - like sandpaper with a dirty panel and -snow load - on it.
