What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I got turned down for a job. A neighbor wanted her filthy (her word choice, not mine) Escape cleaned and I shot her what I thought was a fair price. She never responded. I'm sad now. I'm going to my room to cry.

I know the sort...................

".................it's not that bad, just needs a quick once over, it won't take you long................"

"..............oh, but surely you can do it for less, the last guy only charged me $9.99..............."

- Not that bad = absolutely filthy, interior littered with food wrappers and other assorted crap that no one needs in their car.
- It won't take long = assumes that you have nothing better to do and that she is your only client for the day when in fact, you have a line full paying customer waiting next.
- Last guy only charged $9.99 = the last guy did a half ass.d job, but I expect you to do a thorough job for the same money.

Sounds like you're describing my brother's Outlander that I did a few weeks ago, except he knew how bad it was, and he knew I was doing it for free.

And because it was free I only had to do what I wanted to, or what the voices told me I had to.

The wife traded in her Bronco for a Black Telluride yesterday because she hates me. It was between getting a Black car or an electric one, I rather deal with a Black car than electric one so she brought this home late last night.

I told the dealer not to touch it and I cleaned it this morning. Coated the leather with Gyeon but didn't coat the exterior since it was rainy and very humid out. I will polish and coat it when we get a sunny weekend.

She admitted that it was in a state of dismay. I just refuse to work for pennies on a job that will take hours out of my day. Time is money and if you don’t have the money I don’t have the time.

I’ve always been pretty damn good at math and figuring out the costs behind something. Looking at the going rate for interiors around me, I can clearly see that most of the young detailers, that do great work, are losing money and won’t survive more than a couple of years. I’m too old and bitter to work for pennies which is why I largely leave interiors alone and stick to coatings. I think I’m about to rebrand my business to focus on coatings and correction and de-emphasize general detailing.

Finished a big one. The resource officer at my school just got a new to him truck. It’s a 2012 Silverado Texas Edition and he talked about this truck the way a dad talks about his first born son. He also has a farm so he’s what you would consider a good salt of the earth kind of guy. I know he’s not made of money so I told him to cover my costs and I’d take care of the rest. It’s the nicest truck he’s ever owned and he wants to take care of this one.

For a 12 year old vehicle the paint was in extremely good condition. I used M205 to try and squeeze as much gloss out of it as possible and saw no need to go for a more aggressive polish. The truck is going to see some sh!t spending the rest of it’s life as a farm truck. I coated it with P&S Legend and once again it is my least favorite coating to apply. It’s thick like syrup and the leveling is grabby but since this wasn’t a full price job I had to save my good stuff for future customers. I will say that once you get the coating on the vehicle it’s performs well. It’s not as glossy or slick as Mohs but it’s durable and the hydrophobics are impressive. If P&S could work out the installation, they might have a winner but until this day comes, that was my last install.

Water beading is up there with the best of the coatings I’ve used.

Nice work, looks great! Also really cool.to hear a person excited about a new ride, and they express joy and happiness for it and want to take care of it. And it isn't some fancy off the lot ride either. It shows appreciation for value. A good chunk of society only view brand spanking new as worthy, and even then they may treat it like they don't care, always looking for the trade in (up) casue it has to be new. Nice to see people that just respect stuff cause thats what you should do.
I always take note and admire a person who has almost a beater (visually when you see it) but they talk about their car with such passion. I think it shows some good character. They appreciate what they have.

Great point.

The last person I used this coating on drove a brand new M550 that was damn near six figures. In the course of a year he washed it all of zero times and when he finally called me after six months to wash it, it was covered it a layer of filth, grime and everything else you could imagine and there were bird bombs that had gone all the way through the clear coat. That seems to be par for the course around me. The people with the nicest stuff treat them as expendable commodities.

After seeing THIS this morning I had to do something and that something was the touch-free wash...ASAP

Once back I decided to add some protection to the Cruze in the form of Griot's Garage 3 in 1 Ceramic spray. I moved around the car, under a shade tree, rather quickly. I then finished up with some CarPro Phobics on her windshield. She's going to a wedding in Indy this Friday, now the Cruze is ready for the 4.5 hr drive down to Indy

Phobics getting any better in application now there may be a bit of a base down from previous applications??

Maintenace wash on the truck. In the hot sun. Not fun. Should have gotten my butt up early and did it.

It's better, just gotta have a good glass towel and buff it, less is more is VERY important here

That is a lot of tree sperm.

About how many times a week do you have to wash your cars? I can tolerate some pollen but that is insane.

That is just from overnight and into the morning. It is unusual and not normally like that

I think I might need an intervention. I believe I’m becoming addicted to cleaning cars.

This is the old truck that the Silverado I posted earlier is replacing. The owner decided to go and visit a tractor supply store since he was on my side of town and I let him leave his truck at my crib while he was out. I had been looking for the perfect vehicle to test out Touch-Less v2 and this was my opportunity. This farm truck had never been washed and had dirt and grime in every crack and crevice. An hour later and this is the result.

The wife looked at the truck and was amazed at how good it looks. It looks a thousand times better but if you zoom in you can see the discoloration all over and the clear coat is gone or peeling all over the truck. Just goes to show that we truly are the 1% when it comes to cleaning cars. But, these are the types of people I love doing work for.

I did record the before and after to show what Touch-Less can do. Hopefully I can find a few minutes to edit the footage and post to show my initial thoughts on the new Touch-Less.

Nothing is as beautiful as someone else’s black vehicle…. Nothing is as satisfying as a fresh clean on a black car nor as sad how it looks 30 mins after cleaning.

Funny the longer the Broncos are out the less I’m starting to like them. Telluride though love the styling.

I agree, a clean Black car is unmatched! I love the look of clean Black car. It is especially satisfying when you clean it and don't see anything but a glossy black hole. I forgot how much black cars show.

Yea the Broncos were nice when they came out, but they are very cramped inside and not comfortable for long car rides.

Edge got a bath this weekend.
24/7 outside, mostly parked under a big tree.

Wheels got Megs wheel cleaner and rest was Griots Brilliant Finish and a bucket full of microfiber towels.

Since the apron in front of the garage is at an angle, I put the left wheels on a couple boards so I can get to the bottom edge of the tires.

2 before and one after pic. I should have put some dressing on the tires.

Thats a nice blue.

RW with Griot's Brilliant Finish RW last night after the driveway was in the shade. The Tovia cordless sprayer is down to 73% on the battery. I think that's still just the initial charge from almost 2 years ago.

Also used some of the leather scent Griot's stinky be gone. I used quite a few sprays and it wasn't overwhelming.
