What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

1 of my good clients dropped off this 2011 Ford Crown Victoria to me and said he wanted me to do everything to this car, even the seat belts.. Whenever someone says they want the seatbelts cleaned it sets off a trigger in my head. That’s when I take it personal. Lol.

This car got the full detail.
Interior - carpets extracted, rubber mats cleaned, leather seats cleaned, seat belts cleaned, removed the back seat and cleaned underneath it, leather conditioned.

Exterior - Iron removal, wash, claybar, paint corrected w/Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Megs paint prep, Gyeon Cancoat, headlights restored w/Megs Plastx, Megs Headlight Coating, Mckee’s Glass Restoring Polish on the glass, Hyper Dressing on the tires & weatherstripping.

GREAT JOB RIC

With those rims and tint it's something you could be proud enough to drive! I mean I'd add a full cat-back and some of those Fox body Stang GT exhaust tips and call it a day

Fresh shipment of POLISHANGEL arrived today; unpacking their boxes (in this case 30” x 36” x 18” deep) is like bobbing for apples in the sea of styrofoam peanuts. Fortunately no broken/leaking bottles in this one.

Different mfg pack different ways and are always consistent. Kamikaze packaging is the most well thought out, neat, meticulous & well protected. POLISHANGEL a bit more jumbled, SONAX very neat as well. It’s all oddly interesting.

I never got around to trying Kamikaze products, GTechinque either and I just can't explain why my toe never went in, especially Gtech, they've been around for quite some time

There’s always stuff you never get around to…usually not enough cars to try a lot of different LSP’s for instance. I’ve actually had products bought & waiting on a shelf but for whatever reason just never reached for them.

I guess those fall into the “Seemed like a good idea at the time” category

Chilly- Best of luck to your son, sending well wishes your way.

Eldo- the Crown Vic looks great! I’d drive that any time! Seat belts are amazing when looking back at the before pics.

Thank you, that’s very kind of you

Wow, those headlights came out better than I expected from PlastX.

I used to use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish for this quick type of headlight job, but I’ve found Plastx to do a better job and it’s less messy too.

Amazing transformation!

Thank you!

Yea these Panther Platform cars aren’t too bad at all. Reliable engines from what I understand too, and that counts for alot.

It doesn't look like a former cop car...

Maybe these guys were Detectives.lol.

And the engines would run rings around those asthmatic 4.6 2V's....................

I know the coatings are well respected, but I have not been wowed by any of the Gtechniq products that I have sampled. That's not to say they are bad products, they just lack that x-factor when compared to an industry bursting with stellar products.

I've said this before, but I've found most of the UK brands have left me wanting. WoWo's, Autoglym, Auto Finesse, Gtechniq, Stjarnagloss....................all have products in their ranges that sit at my worst ever lists. I can't put my finger on why, perhaps its a philosophy difference between detailing tastes in the UK compared to AUS and US preferences. For example, they prefer to use two soaps for each wash, one that foams as a pre-treat, then a separate soap for bucket washing. From my experience, that ends up meaning the pre-treat soap has no lubrication but foams like a champ, while the bucket wash will refuse to foam but is decently slick. Cough, Auto Finesse, cough, Stjarnagloss.

...except Bilt-Hamber though

I'm on board with the 2 soaps , better, safer wash plus it's more time with the car, not that I always need to use 2 soaps

I will convert a wire rack wagon (intended for yard work) to a bucket dolly. I need something further off the ground - less bending. The larger rubber tires also roll over hoses and across concrete cracks better.

The only UK product I have tried is BH Touch-Less. One thing I really liked about Labo Primus 2.0 is you can use at as both a pre-wash and bucket wash. It's a pH of 10 which IMO is the sweet spot when you need good cleaning power. I plowed through that stuff and didn't re-order, yet. I'm considering just adding some APC like Multi-X etc. to Carpro Reset to create my own pH 8-10 soap for pre-wash and bucket.

I did another rinseless wash last night with DIY. Cleans so well and is so easy to use. I'm using DiY for my cleaner wash and then I rotate Ech20 back in if I want more gloss. Ech20 diluted 1:20 or 1:30 leaves engine bay plastics and hoses looking nice. I even find Ech20 gives a nice dark sheen to my tires too. The Labo 3pH RW system is intriguing too. I've thought about trying that at some point.

I'm out of APC's at the moment so i'm thinking of trying DiY All Clean, Carpro Multi X or BH Surfex.

I’ve come to realize that even a company like Mitsubishi can build a near bulletproof engine as long as it’s going in a forklift because forklifts seem to run forever compared to a typical car… But there are certain cars built that also have it in them and that’s usually cop cars, and those Fords there used to be cop cars and therefore built to outlast your typical ordinary car.

It’s got a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks…

Rick what did you use on the seat belts?

I used LA’s Totally Awesome @full strength. Nothing else comes close.

I need a new bucket too. My strap has been broken for a while and I have to use both hands to carry it around.

I've always attributed that to propane being a lot cleaner fuel than gasoline.

Did pretty good on the GM side with Holden, as well. There were a number of vehicles they did down under that I'd like to have seen up here.

Gave the stang a quick rinseless wash and decided to pull out the GG6 to remove some of the water/oxidation spots. This paint is old, MACCO single stage and oxidizes really easy. I was only going to do the hood, roof and trunk, but decided to do the whole car.

Most of the scratches you see are actually under the paint. Pretty sure when they repainted they used too low grit sand paper.

Literally as I was finishing my last pass, the pad separated from the backing. Got really close to running the DA against the paint without a pad.
