What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

LA Totally Awesome is great stuff and I always have some around, which is a tip I saw here from Ric. So thanks for that!

Didn’t take pics, but had a foam party with Megs Hyperwash and my wife’s Odyssey. I wish the hysperwash scent was an air freshener.

Got after it EARLY this morning, both cars needed a wash, the Cruze got alot more too

The EN got its tires & wheels cleaned with 3 products:

-ADS Tire+
-Bilt-Hamber Karrosol
-Brake Buster
-Quattro of tools

Next was a pre-wash using Gyeon Restart in the Griot's Garage foam gun and 2BM using ADS Shampoo+...absolutely knocked it out, so much infact I used the left over soap on the Cruze and it STILL foamed up

Did the usual rinse and free flowing water to wash the soap & beads away

I pulled the EN out front to dry it off, vac'd it out and got ready for the Cruze

For the Cruze I started with the pre-wash, Bilt-Hamber Touchless in the Griot's Garage foam gun, dwell and rinsed down, moving to the 2BM. LIke I said earlier, I used the leftover ADS Shampoo+ because I had enough leftover, I used 3 oz with about 4 gallons of water when doing the EN, no reason to waste it

After rinsing it off and free flowing water I dried it off and pulled out the WeatherTechs, her rear carpeted mats and rear cargo rubber mat and cleaned those with ADS Tire+ (not the carpeted mats, ofcoarse) This product cleaned it ALL and I mean C L E A N I also used ADS Tire+ on her DWS06's and Sudslab wheel cleaner on the rims too, came out great, their Tire cleaner is pretty damn good

My g/f actually cleaned the glass and interior bits, gave her TWHS glass cleaner and Griot's Garage Interior Detailer for thus, also a variety of proper mf towels and scrub Ninja, my God that things kicks ass

I pulled the Shop Vac to vac out her entire interior and sprayed 3D Wango Mango in the interior, looks and smells really good in there

I finished up applying 2 coats of TW Mr. Cartoon Tire Coat (lots of time inbetween coats) and now it's done

Now for appointment at the dealership for its 3rd set of horns in a little bit, plus they wanna make me an offer on my car

It is indeed. I use it all over the house inside and out
I always buy it from the dollar store. Other places charge a bit more.

Gave the stang a quick rinseless wash and decided to pull out the GG6 to remove some of the water/oxidation spots. This paint is old, MACCO single stage and oxidizes really easy. I was only going to do the hood, roof and trunk, but decided to do the whole car.

Most of the scratches you see are actually under the paint. Pretty sure when they repainted they used too low grit sand paper.

Literally as I was finishing my last pass, the pad separated from the backing. Got really close to running the DA against the paint without a pad.

Nice turnaround on that paint, but separated pads are scary

I never had the velcro fail like that while actually using a pad, it has only happened when I got too aggressive peeling a pad off

but

I had one where the foam section literally split into 2 sections and the center was filled with some kind of gooey residue, like you cut a Hostess cupcake in half horizontally and had the cake on the top and bottom and the creamy filling in the center

The only thing I could ever figure out was it got way too hot at some point and something acted on the hot foam and essentially liquified it

That was scary

The dilution ratios with Totally Awesome should really be followed when extreme cleaning isn’t needed as not only is it still effective but more importantly the fumes aren’t so crazy overwhelming… Just this morning I emptied 90% of the the 2 bottles [1 in the kitchen and the bathroom] to make them 10:1 and they’ll still be just as effective for what they do and hopefully won’t have to hold your breath to simply clean the toilet.

Time for primer polish then ADS quartz application

Damn...that's an awesome looking truck! What's all done to it?

Please let me know about your results, I'm coating mine with the Quartz in 13 days!

Did you get the regular or PRO grade?

You're confusing me...isn't Tire+ a dressing? Are you saying you cleaned the mats using the dressing, and cleaned the tires with their tire cleaner, followed by the dressing?

Also, it looks like ADS is coming out with a tire "sealant" called Ghost; it's on the website but shows as "sold out" like Phobic.

Your right to be confused, I used their Tire Cleaner, not Tire+. The name "Ghost" is possibly one of the weirdest names for a Tire coating. Give me some time and I'll see what I could come up for a name

You're not the first one that's gotten confused between the tire cleaner and Tire+, one of the YouTube reviewers had to annotate their video because they were calling one of them the wrong thing all though the video.

As far as "Ghost", maybe they call it that because I'm presuming it's white, as an acrylic dressing.

Yeah I'm sure it is actually and in the description they talk about that "blueing" effect, same thing TW Mr. Cartoon Tire Coat does. I'm very curious about this product and I'm at the point where I've either gotta give away some of my tire dressings or move them into the basement

I decided not to wait for my ADS order to show up to try rinseless washing with a sponge

It’s been raining, although the front of the car didn’t look too bad

The rear end was a different story and in retrospect I may have bitten off more than I could chew

I made up 3 gallons of ONR V5 at 256:1 and started soaking my new McKees golden sponge, and I put a gallon at 128:1 in the pre-sprayer

This worried me but I figured I would try it and use extra heavy pre-spray

bb76d2cc8d7961bde7457190a221fa52.jpg

The roof and hood and upper doors didn’t leave any dirt on the sponge but when I hit the back end it looked like this

9d8c6ec74e2958b92e35765d307d26cb.jpg

I almost stopped and was seriously considering breaking out the soap and stuff but I took my time and was as gentle as I could be

I even grabbed my spray bottle of ONR at 64:1 for extra lubrication on the worst parts

I figured as cool and humid as it is I could get away with washing the whole car and then drying but after I got through the rear end I went around the sides and I had some polymer streaks on the sides so I know I need to go back to a panel or two at a time

It was so fast going around the upper parts with the sponge and not constantly folding and flipping and refolding towels that I thought it would be ok

I rewashed the polymer streaks on the doors and then started drying

My new Gauntlet drying towels are amazing

It turned out pretty good but there were some nooks and crannies on the back end that I wasn’t comfortable forcing the sponge into and it shows

I learned a lot and I’m not terrified of the sponge anymore

I need to refine my methods and get a handle on dealing with all the tight spots so I’m able to deal with the winter crud that’s coming

Looks great. You nailed it. I'm still getting used to the sponge. I used the sponge and 4 wash mitts I let soak in the bucket.

Thanks!

In retrospect I should have grabbed a couple of chenille mitts to try and get into those tight spots but some of them actually needed a boars hair or makeup brush and soap and I didn't want to stop and see what folks thought about that so I just went for it

There are several places on the rear end that are just horrible dirt traps

Do you guys feel comfortable using a detailing brush with RW on the tight spots, badges, etc?

I use one for all the cracks, crevices, door handles, emblems, etc. use the sponge elsewhere. Keep the detail brush and my drying aid in one of those plastic devices that hangs on the side of the wash bucket. I wash sections such as roof and windows then spray with drying aid and dry with drying towel. Then move on to another section such as hood and grill and so on. When I move on to a new section the previous section is finished.

Thanks, I appreciate the input

I’ll probably keep a spray bottle of 64:1 by the bucket as well to super lubricate problem areas like the ones I showed

Even a foam and soap wash won’t dislodge some of that dirt without agitating with my boars hair brushes

And on a separate note

I walked out to the garage to clean up after I took a coffee break and I noticed what looked like streaking on the hood so I grabbed a towel and some QD and was ready to take care of it when I looked closer

There was a scratching scuff mark about 4”x6” right in the middle of the hood

WTH

It looked like someone had set something down and pushed it across the paint

I knew better than to ask the only other person who lives in the house

I looked the rest of the hood over and didn’t see anything else

I grabbed my 3” machine and the combo that I don’t even have to think about with this car

Rupes yellow wool and NV Finesse

2 sets of 3 row passes and the scratches were history

I didn’t get a good after pic
