I decided not to wait for my ADS order to show up to try rinseless washing with a sponge
It’s been raining, although the front of the car didn’t look too bad
The rear end was a different story and in retrospect I may have bitten off more than I could chew
I made up 3 gallons of ONR V5 at 256:1 and started soaking my new McKees golden sponge, and I put a gallon at 128:1 in the pre-sprayer
This worried me but I figured I would try it and use extra heavy pre-spray
The roof and hood and upper doors didn’t leave any dirt on the sponge but when I hit the back end it looked like this
I almost stopped and was seriously considering breaking out the soap and stuff but I took my time and was as gentle as I could be
I even grabbed my spray bottle of ONR at 64:1 for extra lubrication on the worst parts
I figured as cool and humid as it is I could get away with washing the whole car and then drying but after I got through the rear end I went around the sides and I had some polymer streaks on the sides so I know I need to go back to a panel or two at a time
It was so fast going around the upper parts with the sponge and not constantly folding and flipping and refolding towels that I thought it would be ok
I rewashed the polymer streaks on the doors and then started drying
My new Gauntlet drying towels are amazing
It turned out pretty good but there were some nooks and crannies on the back end that I wasn’t comfortable forcing the sponge into and it shows
I learned a lot and I’m not terrified of the sponge anymore
I need to refine my methods and get a handle on dealing with all the tight spots so I’m able to deal with the winter crud that’s coming
