What did you do today non-detailing related?

Had to go back to Repco, the paint I bought for my wheel painting project said no base coat required...... when spraying onto chrome or bright metal surfaces in very small print. So I went and bought some base coat, because I'm painting my black wheels. None of the guys in the shop knew this either, but they do want to see what it looks like when it's done.

I just went on their site and put some stuff in a cart to see what shipping would be, not that I want any of their stuff, and they use the standard checkout system that a lot of online places use and you can't even get a shipping quote without giving them ALL of your contact info, starting with email address

Needless to say that's not going to happen
I always use [email protected] if i'm just checking out shipping cost.

If it looks good, I could do the front fascia/headlight surround to match, don't worry I do have a spare I bought for $100 a few years ago when I was experimenting with different looks, it's currently got some plastidip on it.

I have a throwaway email address as well but usually they want street, city, state, and zip to calculate

I have used some of the finished houses in the area for street address and they aren't always recognized by the cart software because they aren't in the USPS system yet since this is a newly developed area

We didn't even get assigned an actual street number until January of 2023 even though we started the process in May of 2022

It took us several months after the sale of the house was recorded for the post office to officially recognize the address

It took even longer for Apple Maps, Google, etc to catch up and have our address in their systems

A lot of businesses subscribe to the official USPS lists and their cart systems would tell me my address was invalid

I actually spoke to one lady on another non detailing matter and she explained that some smaller businesses don't update their address database from the USPS as often as possible because every time they do it costs $ so some only do it every 6 months or so

When we moved into our new house nearly 5 years ago, it took about 9 months and 3 requests for Google Maps to get our address right, it kept sending people to the other end of the street. I usually added "Silver FJ Cruiser in driveway" in the delivery instructions for deliveries. One guy admitted he didn't know what an FJ Cruiser was, but when he saw it he thought "that's gotta be it".

When it finally showed up on WAZE it said Sunflower Ln, and it is actually Snowflower Ln

It stayed that way for several months

It is funny how often someone reads the address back to me or the boss and says Sunflower Ln

I finally thought after all these years that we actually got a street name that was easy to spell and pronounce

Apparently not so much

I'll swap you for Wirraway Drive, in the Wirraway Estate. This is 50% an Air Force neighbourhood, and the Wirraway was a training aircraft during WWII. It's an Aboriginal word meaning Challenge. The local park even has a runway.

Just edited to add, my last house was in Broadoaks Street, try spelling that to someone out loud.

Wasn't done today, but has been taking place over the last few months.. I've been emailing a famous person in the car world and he finally responded to my emails. I emailed him, lettings him know that the wife and I have been invited to witness a Space-X launch and we have two extra passes.. This fellow we invited, accepted our invitation. I can't reveal who this person or persons (because he can invite another friend) are until after the fact which take place sometime next year. The fact that I was able to break through and actually speak with this person was a major accomplishment in itself. I mean how often do you get a famous person on the phone or email. Now to work out the logistics..
Congratulations on actually making contact. Dealing with famous people can be a bit weird sometimes. I once commented on a UK TV personalities post on Instagram, they responded, then contacted me through their private Instagram account, and asked to move to another platform to chat. They could never figure out the time difference, so we're always trying to chat in the middle of the night. I never figured out if the private account was really them or just someone trying to scam me. After a month we just gave up.

I know you said you can't reveal their identity, but if it was me, I'd be trying for Chip Foose, I've always admired his work, and to hang out with him for a day, and watch a rocket launch, would be awesome.

So you have passes to go inside the SpaceX complex to see the launch from whatever VIP viewing area they have? How did you manage to get them?

EDIT: I guess I should ask where you are going, I just presumed it was Texas, but perhaps not.

This may sound a bit gruff but celebrities are just people just like you and me. In the celebrities case they just got a few lucky breaks.
I recall being at work ( aircraft hangar at an airport) and a coworker comes up to me and says " hey Tiger Woods is right outside on the ramp”.I kept right on doing what I was doing.
There are plenty of regular folks I have much greater respect for. Wouldn't walk across the street to gawk at a celebrity.

When I was a legal courier back in 2008-09 I was having lunch with a co-worker and Dominick Hasek walked right past me and I said "Good luck in the playoffs" (he wasn't starting), it just slipped out

Another time I was doing my daily trip to Oakland County Circuit court. I put my keys and belt through through the metal detector, talking to the cop as I started walking through and almost literally walked into...."Dr. Death" Jack Kavorkian, it kinda freaked me out for some reason, he looked like "death warmed over"

I very much like professional and college football. I had season tickets for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 25 years.

Once while tailgating before a game i got into a discussion with my brother in law about wearing any players jersey. I said that i would wear team clothing but id never wear any individuals name on my back as that is worshiping them. Said id wear their name on my back as soon as they agreed to wear my name on their back. He said that was the craziest thing he ever heard. Paying rediculous money to wear someone elses name on ones back it what sounds crazy to me.

Watched the gas comp. tech install a new gas meter and check for leaks. Part of an upgrade and we were next on the list. All electronic now. New water meter was installed last year. All went well. No leaks or issues. He was in and out in 20 min. No charge to the customer.
