What did you do today non-detailing related?

Yeah i know, I was being cheeky or Taking the piss as we say in Australia, Top fuel I've only watched on TV and seeing someone go from 0-500km/h in 3-4 seconds is mind blowing

Wild experience in person! Throws your brain for a loop the first time as you can feel something you’re seeing and can only hear that one thing and nothing else.

Even on TV I can feel it in my chest.

Yeah, in person your entire body resonates. Also the pit access is unprecedented in motor sports - you can be almost within arms length watching them tear a motor down to the block and rebuild it in under an hour. I don't know why, because all the drivers always raved about it, but NHRA took a break for a few years from local Route 66 Raceway but finally returned in '23 and it's worth the drive.

In my garage i have many license plates from past vehicles we have owned sitting on the steel beam that goes across my garage.

They are just sitting there on an angle leaning a bit, shown in the pic below. They have been up there a good while without falling but wouldnt take much for one to fall and scratch the Chevelle or the car in the other bay.

The fix. I obtained some small 25 lb magnets with hooks from Amazon and now they are quite secure.

Talk about tempting fate before the magnets

Yikes

BLM I love that Chevelle. I like that you have your plates also. I need to hang mine (and some from my Dad’s old vehicles) at some point. I don’t think I have every plate I’ve had, but also don’t remember them all.

I have 21 plates up there. All but two are plates from vehicles that i have owned since living where i live now. Im missing pretty much all of them from before that time. Guess i used to just toss them before. Also missing three or four from vehicles ive owned since living here.

I recall buying a brand new truck and hadnt sold the truck i had before the new one. The salesman asked me if i wanted to transfer my old plate. I said definitely not as i had a few unpaid parking tickets on the old plate.

How does it work with plates over there? Because here the plates stay with the vehicle, usually it's entire life, unless you have personalised plates that you want to keep, such as your name, nickname, or initials for example.

I've only had personalised plates once, and they were chosen to match the car, VRV-850, it was for a VR Commodore, it was a V8, and it was a 5.0 litre, so I let them go with the car, they only cost about $180 as a one off fee. Later the government figured out people liked custom plates so they put a yearly fee on them, $121 - $499, depending on the style. So I'm not doing that anymore.

Up here if they are just normal plates they stay with the car

Vanity and special plates like disabled veteran, handicapped, etc can’t go with a car you sell and they get replaced by the new owner

My neighbour bought some personal plates MY-K9 for his wife they were $1500+ Fudge that.

Well here the plates don't stay with the car. They are assigned to the vehicle/owner combo. One is supposed to return the plate to the state when the car is sold. However that policy is not enforced. I'm sure they just destroy them anyway. I figure they're mine as I paid for them yearly.
