What is keeping u from coating your car instead of sealant/wax?

Man im so confuse if i should even coat my car or not!!!!!!!

I apologize immensely. No disrespect intended hand. I value your threads and postings much.

Not only that, I also referenced (somewhat) the wrong thread where I summarized my decision based on Chris' postings. That info is on my laptop and I can't access it until after Sunday when I will get it back.

As a final point, I doubt very seriously if I will try out 2.0 on my personal vehicles - even though though Optimum is my go to line.

No need to apoligize! I hate emoticons personally and forgot to add J/K. I got a kick out of it buddy!
 
But if i coat it, even if i top sealant and wax over it.
Will it change the color/depth or anything on the paint since the coating is somewhat blocking it already?

Respectfully, Opti Coat will allow you to top it. It just doesn't last longer than a couple of weeks. You can still wax, but your paint will be locked in and protected.

Some people top it with ReLoad, Permanon, and other things. You will save money by not buying a bunch of subpar products that do not last long.
 
Wow, gotta tell ya. My Pathfinder was soaked with pollen, it actually looked yellow. Last night it rained and all the pollen is gone and it looks just washed... Just from rain. +1 Opti-Coat. I've never experienced this with traditional products. Nobody should bash Opti Coat without trying it.

I did #9 to my vehicles and I admit I am a zealot. NO Coating is permanent if you dont want it to be. I have used and removed OG,OC,G|Techniq C1 and Element 119 System X. All were corrected or removed easily with a polish and a white foam pad.

I love the physical barrier between my clear and the world. IMO you raised great points but IME the protection trumps all potential concerns.

Thanks, Old Tiger, for your input regarding my concerns[phobias(?)LOL]...You've mentioned to me to try a 'Coating' before; and, as I continue to age graciously, I will be applying one of them very shortly...More than likely, either Opti-Gard/Opti-Coat 2.0.

As usual, your insight is always welcome in my book!!!

There really needs to be a sticky with all the FAQ about OC! The miss information that gets spread daily is overwhelming...:(

OC/OG was advertized as being more resistant to scratching/marring than traditional waxes/sealants and I personally feel that statement holds water, especially considering how easily the coating sheds away dirt. Less dirt on the surface = less chance of wash induced marring...one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. However, I do feel the coating can be just as easily marred with improper washing as any other product.


To the OP's question....nothing! It's been on my car since July 2010 and has been applied to virtually every clients car I've detailed in 2012 so far! I simply don't have the time to wax and seal my paint like I used to and having Opti-Guard on my personal car simply allows it to stay cleaner longer and it now require less effort to clean when I do have a chance to wash it.

The biggest selling point for me is that it acts like a renewable clear coat. Coating the car with OC/OG has shown to add 1-4 microns of thickness to the paint. This means any future correction that is needed will be removing less OEM clear than if the car was not coated. With how thin the paint is on some of the newer cars I've seen lately why wouldn't you coat it? You can still top it if you wish as it does/can enhance the look.

Can you top it? I've heard people say nothing will stick to Opti-Coat 2.0 because it is so slick. Now I don't know who to believe. So what is the definitive answer? Or do we just have to try it and see? Also there are other brands of coatings, are they all the same or are some of them more "toppable" than others?

LOL....well it's not going to slide off the car into pool on the ground or anything like that. ;)


Durability will be diminished though, how long they last will depend on the product used and the elements the car is subject too. I've easily seen 3+ weeks with some products though. Opti-Coat is not slick at all, in fact it feels just like bare paint.
