What is keeping u from coating your car instead of sealant/wax?

Lol okay, now im just waiting for UPS to drop off my new HT pads... so i can get to polishing and cquartz

Thanks for answering our questions Rasky. I'm new to this stuff but leaning more towards OC 2.0 as I learn more about it.

Question about your application video. I noticed no taping off of trim on the car. The hood has what looks like vents or intake port holes on top? Are they plastic or painted metal?

No want anyone says, I do not believe the Hype. So I stick to waxing.

Nope, no taping needed and I believe the vents were plastic.

I used the foam applicator for that video but I actually prefer to use the CQuartz foam block wrapped in their micro suede towels for the application as they allow you to get right up to an edge easier and I feel they put down a more uniform layer of product.

For wheels, jambs, or other intricate surfaces I will still use foam or even air brush. ;)

Wow O.o
You look kick a$$ with that air brush man lol...
Who would have thought of using air brush to apply coating on a grill o.O

Also after u apply a even coat of cquartz, do u use a MF towel to wipe off right away like you do with OC?

Oh cool I didn't know you could airbrush this stuff on either. Do you spread the airbrushed coat with a foam pad before it dries?

Wow, gotta tell ya. My Pathfinder was soaked with pollen, it actually looked yellow. Last night it rained and all the pollen is gone and it looks just washed... Just from rain. +1 Opti-Coat. I've never experienced this with traditional products. Nobody should bash Opti Coat without trying it.

I just had the exact same experience. I did OC 2.0 on my Audi two weeks ago. It was covered with pollen after sitting outside at work all day Monday. It rained Tuesday and the car looked almost freshly washed. The rain also blew off the surfaces like crazy when I was driving .. it was almost mesmerizing!

If you've ever had or washed a German car, you know the brake dust is ridiculous. Mine is an S4, so it is really bad. After putting OC on my wheels, the dust just wipes off.

Thanks, Old Tiger, for your input regarding my concerns[phobias(?)LOL]...You've mentioned to me to try a 'Coating' before; and, as I continue to age graciously, I will be applying one of them very shortly...More than likely, either Opti-Gard/Opti-Coat 2.0.

As usual, your insight is always welcome in my book!!!

:)

Thanks Bob! Your posts are always well written and when you have questions, they are thought provoking! Chad has some great insight below! His work with OG is stunning. I get the smooth glassy look and feel by topping with Permanon. It lasts at least until I want to reapply.

There really needs to be a sticky with all the FAQ about OC! The miss information that gets spread daily is overwhelming...:(

OC/OG was advertized as being more resistant to scratching/marring than traditional waxes/sealants and I personally feel that statement holds water, especially considering how easily the coating sheds away dirt. Less dirt on the surface = less chance of wash induced marring...one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. However, I do feel the coating can be just as easily marred with improper washing as any other product.

To the OP's question....nothing! It's been on my car since July 2010 and has been applied to virtually every clients car I've detailed in 2012 so far! I simply don't have the time to wax and seal my paint like I used to and having Opti-Guard on my personal car simply allows it to stay cleaner longer and it now require less effort to clean when I do have a chance to wash it.

The biggest selling point for me is that it acts like a renewable clear coat. Coating the car with OC/OG has shown to add 1-4 microns of thickness to the paint. This means any future correction that is needed will be removing less OEM clear than if the car was not coated. With how thin the paint is on some of the newer cars I've seen lately why wouldn't you coat it? You can still top it if you wish as it does/can enhance the look.

Just my $.02

You said it a lot better than I could buddy!

This performance and added clearcoat. This is why I am a zealot! It is a no-brainer for me!
