what is with all these abbreviations???

One thing for sure, acronyms and abbreviations on discussion forums are not going away, it's just not going to happen as it's a part of the social environment and already too well established.

There will always be some that dislike all the acronyms and there will always be some that use them as a part of the normal and accepted forum lingo. That isn't to say that the people that use them like them, it's just that typing out abbreviations is a convenient time saver and acronyms are too well ingrained in cyber communities like AGO, whoops, I meant Autogeek Online.

:D

Sorry guys. Didn't mean to start a bunch of crap. Haha I will always come back to the forum its fun to read and learn. BUT A PAIN IN THE ASS! Just kiddin.

I think the mouse over definitions are freaking awesome. Anyone listening?

I'm getting in on this one a little late but all these abbreviations and acronyms are driving me nuts as well. For some reason everyone types as of they're on their phone texting and not on a full keyboard.

Abbreviations and acronyms do not save money and waste time, start typing!

It takes longer to figure out what the abbreviations and acronyms mean then to read the entire topic, lol.

:(

Just install an expander on the site just like all the e-mail programs use.

I type the first two or three letters of a person's name and it expands it into a person's name, or names. Then I just click on the one I want.

Why not do that on here with every single abbreviation?

This has been driving me nuts for ever! I know there is a chart which explains all these crazy abbreviations but I do not have the time to study it and learn all these nor do I want to look through it when people say like three of them in a short posting. I just don't get If we are taking our time to explain to everyone our thoughts and let everyone know what we are talking about why is it so hard to push a few more buttons? Sorry to complain but many times I get frustrated, stop reading, and find something else to do. Can someone please explain the point of all this? There are hundreds of them. Like DISO. Who in there right mind knows what that is? I know "dealer installed swirl marks" Only because someone was talking about coming up with a name for them. People who dont spend alot of time on here can and will never understand this forum. Its nucking futs!

Maybe they know, I sure don't either half the time. Its not very good advertisement for products using kjdue stuff. Maybe we just need to ask every time we see one, that would really be use less

Just to note... I'm a quasi-speed typist and most to the time don't mind typing out the complete names of things or products etc, like...

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0

instead of,

WDGPS

But here's the deal... Autogeek didn't start the acronym issue and it's highly doubtful we're going to stop it. What can anyone do? Lead by example? Take my word for it... that ain't going to work.

It's just part of how "ALL" discussion forums, work, even forums on Butterfly Collecting, every hobby, or topic has it's own lingo and one way this lingo expresses itself is via acronyms on discussion forums and other social media platforms, (SMP).

For regulars to detailing forums, (ours, there's, everyone's), most people get the hang of it...

We had the same type of thread on MeguiarsOnline, it's older and if you were to seek it out and read through it you would find the same conclusions... it's the norm for forums and other social media platforms and it's highly unlikely it's going away.

For me it's just a few seconds to plink the keys but many others don't type fast or type a lot and will use acyonmys....

:)

Just like any industry, the detailing and finish care industry has its own unique vernacular, of which acronyms are a vital part. Just give it some time, and you'll learn/get used to it assuming your interest level in gaining knowledge is high enough for you to make an effort to do so.

Maybe it's just because I've been in and around this industry for about 10 years now, but the acronyms really don't phase me one bit.

Just thought this was a funny thread. I am having fun learning the acronyms but usually still just get lost ha ha.

My career also has so many acronyms it would make your had spin there as well. But after many years in the books studying and working towards it, you get familiar and once working 'in the real' world it would be almost annoying to read, type or do anything else with everything spelled out.

So I figure I will catch on here too.... Hopefully. :D ... Or my cars will be in need.... Lol

I agree Mike and I for one never use them.

The military's been using accronyms forever but for civilians this craze nurtured itself through the 90's and became a full fledged virus after 2000. Everyone seems to think it saves time typing acronyms but all the words we use that make up these time saving thorns are already committed to memory.

It's just one more, or in this case, thousands more, useless bits of information to commit to memory's that are already overloaded.

:nomore: Acronyms, let it begin here!!

Computer short-hand....sucks...buts its the times we live in. The only one I know is FUBAR...but I'm from the old school.

Or....we could use our powers for evil and see who can make the longest sentence out of nothing but abbreviations

/apologies for thread-jack
//kinda.
