What is your approach to selling full correction?

I know a guy in Colorado that made a deal with a local Chevy dealer. He fully corrected a brand new Vette in exchange for letting him park it at his shop for a week. The male customers seemed to gravitate towards it and the flawless finish hooked them in. You just have to seal the deal. The portfolio is another awesome idea.

Nate, I am from WPB and know the area well. You arent marketing at Century Village yet? (Nate should get that joke). Seriously though, PM me your info. My mother is in Boynton and needs a good cleaning...the car not her.

That last line made me laugh out loud, very loud! My wife's aunt lives in Boynton Beach and her cousin lives in WPB. I have considered many times about relocating to that area.

No worries man! It can be something as simple as flip through album, or what I like to do is use a "certificate" album and have a full page with 50/50's and before and afters. I usually keep them on the same page (50/50's with 50/50's etc) this way they can see the different colors, cars, etc that have been worked on all in one shot. :props:

Sounds like a plan to me. Full shots would be nice. :xyxthumbs:

This thread is also giving me a LOT of good ideas for setting up a booth at a car show, or something of that nature. I could setup the hood sample with 1,2, and 3 test spots already done. I can have my portfolio, business cards, and brochures available. I can also grab another junk hood and do corrections while people watch. I could possibly even have a nice car donated for the day in trade for a free detail. That would be an impressive booth! :dblthumb2:

I recently taped down a back panel on my truck - corrected it (without wetsanding) and it is extremely noticeable seeing as the rest of my truck has never been done. When people ask - I point at the panel, and they love it...... but I would like to add that I rather not do paint corrections more than 1 every week or 2 - - -- - - much better dough in other areas IMO.

Commission talk is cool with me man, ha. I usually like to ask people what they get paid for certain jobs just cause I'm interested. When it come to stuff like full correction though...my prices definitely jump around a bit. It just depends on the job. Estimate only! lol :dblthumb2:

I hear that man. Most my jobs are my "Silver Package" which is my interior+exterior package. It's just a one step polish, and at the peak seasons...we'll bust out 3-5 of these a day. Which is a lot more than I would make doing one full correction for two days.

But, the detailer in me wants the long drawn out perfection jobs! They look so nice when they're done, haha. Those big jobs keep you on your game! When I do get a job like that...I just set aside at least one full day where I can just work strictly on that. The second day may have some other jobs going on as well...but I can still finish the correction before the day is up.

Most the time...I can finish a full correction in one day. But I'll just save something like windows to do the next day. Or sometimes I'll lay the sealant on...and just close up. Then when I come in the next day, I'll remove the sealant, do the windows, and jambs...and be done.

Most the time I don't call the customer right away either, ha. I let it sit in front of my shop for advertisement until late afternoon, lol. :xyxthumbs:
 
I really like the idea of the portfolio. I've never thought of that. Even with all my pictures! I've always had them handy on my computer...but it would be nice to have a little photo book to walk over to them with and show off. I'll definitely be doing that. Thanks man! If you have a fixed location, the next best thing to a photo album is one of the picture frames that you can download pictures to and have it "flip" through the photos. They even come in different sizes and not too expensive.

I thought of that before. I want to buy one to have in my office to show off before and afters while a customer is making payment, an appointment, or purchasing a gift card. Thanks :xyxthumbs:

I don't even attempt it. The economy where I live dictates that it is a lost cause. If you are able to squeak $150 out of someone you have done a full sales job....and that's a Suburban!!!! Daily drivers are what I get and they just "want it to look nice". There are a few collectors here but they take their cars to Mexico and get them done for $75! Pro work? Not on a bet but passable and they got it cheap.
This is why I stepped down from full time detailing when I moved down here from Austin. There are customers that will pay but it's not worth it to me to seek them out for one or two jobs a year. I only work in the winter here (it was 80º today) because the summer is brutal. Location has one hell of a lot to do with the kind of work you provide. Both climate and income dictate what can be done on a realistic basis. Full correction ain't worth my time and doesn't pay enough. I'd rather knock out three daily drivers in three days than one full correction in the same time frame.

Yeah you did. I remember you were saying you did the back of your truck, and that you show it off and customers love it. Don't know why that would get deleted. :dunno:

I agree with you. Location is definitely key in this business. Just like if you're in California...it's easier to get the high end lambos, Ferraris and such. Around here, there's a lot of SUV type vehicles cause of the snow. Also, it's tough to convince full correction when people know every year winter is gonna beat the piss outta their paint. There are people with collector cars and keep them garaged...they just don't like to drop off. :xyxthumbs:
