What's a good compound to use after wet sanding the headlights? M105, M205? I was using 600 gritt all the way too 3000 gritt. I'll be using the pc with a 4" pad, any advice would be appreciated!

I just need a good polish to cut the rest of the sanding scratches. I'd rather use the plast x it'll be for customers cars unless they wanna pay for the opti coat lol

So you just want to polish the oxidation out? And not have to wet sand?

Yeah it gets them pretty close to perfect after wetsand. I use a white 3" pad on a drill

I have done headlights, however I sanded them by hand. It'll get the job done. I however prefer to work by machine, if given the option.

I plan on doing my headlight work like Critical Details. However I am thinking of having 2 different options. One with Meguiar's Headlight Protection and the other for an upgrade option with Opti Lens.

I could be wrong on my package options however.

This order should be getting purchased by me from AG within the next week. So I'll be tuning in as to what others have to say.

I use a 4 inch pad attached to my drill,I first buff it with m105,, m205 and then Meg's PlastX.
Then glaze with EZ Cream Glaze, Griot's Paint Sealant then top it with NXT wax.
The drill is what does it for me, good RPM's with an orange hook and loop pad. LC Hex

I have never been able to polish my headlights to FLAWLESS condition. Meaning the Lens HAVE NO SWIRLS or SCRATCHES.
No matter how hard i try, there is always swirls and scratches....
Even after i wet sand....

Nice vid,thanks for sharing.
Anyone know where I can find some 4 inch sandpaper so I could use it with my PC like on the video?

That's how I feel..

I feel that trying to polish out headlights without wet sanding is more work in the end, especially if they are really beat up. Then just wet sanding and buffing out.

Even for scratches. It is a lot easier to sand a scratch and then polish it out. The polishing it out only.

I called Meguiar's some time back and if I remember correctly they said if using a Rotary and wool pad, alongside m105 you have to turn up the speed to 1500. To remove sanding marks after wet sanding. In this case it was 3000 grit.

I am not sure which is least aggressive. I have tried both btw.

I went back to my old ways and switch to 3M rubbing compound at speed 1000.

I could be wrong but it just feels safer IMO to run a rotary at a slower speed then at a higher speed. In this case Rotary wool pad @ 1000 vs 1500. Either or, I have found that both work in the end.

That's where I got shown first hand that technique trumps product.

I could be wrong. In my mind however, I imagine 105 and 205 as liquid sand paper.

105 is a compound that will removing the sanding marks.

If you truly wanted you could wet sand 3000 up to 5000.

Them use a compound which will remove the sanding marks.

And 205 will remove those sanding marks.
M205 is a ultra fine polish (I believe)

So you could even jewel the headlights.

Which will probably be un noticeable to the un trained eye.

So in the end it will be completely up to you how far you want to take it.

That's why I included Meguiar's Headlight Protection or Opti Lens.

A buff and polish or do you want them restored??? (For the customers)

I'm sure it all varies in the end so that's why I hear them always say to have an individual package for each individual customer.

I just wanna do a simple wetsand followed with m105 m205 then a plast x sealant. Something simple and fairly quick for an easy $40-60 for both headlights done

After trying to use a couple of the kits with the drill attachment, and not having any real success, i bought the Meguiar's headlight and spot repair kit. I was amazed that I could use my 3" Griot's polisher with the various Meg's papers and clear the lenses up so well. The kit comes with 105 that gets used on a wool pad followed by 205 on a foam pad. Then top or seal with your favorite product. Headlights come out looking better than new every time. Hope this helps. Rt
